Burger,

You make a valid point, and I will try to balance it out a bit next week... however everyone's talking about Surridge's effort to combat an impressive run chase by ANA.

Worth the headline in my opinion.

Agree it looks very ANA-centric and could be toned down a little, but to be fair, Sugar is covering for someone who gets to cart himslef around the grounds all day and get a bit of an idea of what's been happening in the games. Sugar's only information is going to come from the game he's involved in. On this particular occasion a ton last week and 200 run parntership on the weekend, plus a 6 for all in the same game is certainly cause for the headline.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

As we move towards the halfway point of the season the cream of Longy and BRC are rising to the top. The Longy four wont change, other than the order. The hoops as expected are going along very nicely although have not been really tested. Should be an interesting game with JGG lining up against his former mates this week. The blues had a nice run chase against the golf club and will only get stronger when they return to VP. The jellies have hardened up and are once again the juggernaught. Going about their business, they still have the talent to go 8 from 9 and expect their forumsters to jump back aboard the BCF as they realise the demise was only temporary and ray could just hang around for another year. The Gold caps have a bogey side and could this be the year they actually meet in March. Other than the loss of Bottsy, not much has changed at the Oasis and after some round 11 heartbreaks in the past, they will make the four this season. The top 4 just seem to be a fair way ahead of the rest of the pack. Someone from the pack will make a charge but will it be enough to displace one of the existing top 4. The Washups will give the golfers a fight for relegation with the Heath expected to be fairly competitive for the remainder of the season. A lot has been said about the ANA / Uniting game and i'll throw in my two bobs worth and state that at 1/213 it was a fairly pathetic effort by the green and golds not to get up but they are way to reliant on the new skipper, and when he goes, so do the winning hopes of ANA.

The BRC also looks like the final four is now settled. The pre-season favourites are undefeated and cruising. With the return of their opening bowler and some good form from the emerging youngsters, the West will give the cup a mighty shake. I will have a more in depth BRC PM another time but there is a strong possibility that the GF will be played for promotion to Longy as well as the Guy/Shaw medal.

How can you say that, look at the ladder.

Brett

Whose Jessica Mauboy ( just kidding ), some good work from you in the last 24 hours.

Quilton,

Showing a bit of unseen talent which will keep the minus 5 at bay for you.

Clock,

Your usual brilliant self and are obviously not waiting for selections meetings by lodging tips earlier.

Although I liken the late withdrawls as to what they do in the AFL as Monkey Milner's elevation to the laker ones obviously weakened their popgun attack in the BRC side.

I was considering issuing you with a points penalty for continuing to use the J word but it would make no difference to your standing as you are holding up the tippsters ladder rather than looking down on it like Jessica.

Arch,

My good friend now that you have moved into your rightfull place in the top 4 I expect some sort of post mortem however brief that your busy work schedule will allow. No favourites with Merl.

I am quite amazed that B's all conquering mob only sit 3rd behind the big improvers and the jellies.Maybe the Moose theorey of batting on without loosing too many wickets is the way to build the big percentage.

Uncle Mick,

I look forward to your PM when time permits and have you down for a big bag with the left arm slingers against the Jelly twos!

Saul

Where are you have you been? on one of PDog's benders. No tips no explanation and your team is going down the gurgler after a promising start.I think Uncle Mick's mob were unlucky to run into you in the first game as they would probably whip you in your current form.I see you led from the front but how long did it take to compile those 18 runs?I look forward to you doing a Lazarus and coming back to life on the BCF.

until next time........ vino sipping poster............... Merlot

Merl, just trying to avoid penalty ATM as i feel thats the only way this dog can be rained back:D

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

For someone who knows and has played very little in the CMCA have to admit the dog is surprised to be sitting where he is. If you havent worked it out Im a footballer who likes going on benders in the cricket season and plays the odd game much to the displeasure of my club.....where is he they say? Missed another 1 on the weekend another wedding to attend oh well free booze....can't complain!!
Anyway no real idea of my methods to tip. All I know is ESBC, Union, Mackie and West Bentleigh are really strong in the top grade, Kingston Heath are out of the depth so never tip them (there next attempt at Longy in a couple of seasons time will be better once their kids have matured a little).
In Woolnough I usually tip Cluden due to my footy coach Big Daddy playing there although he hasn't had a hit on the Saturday yet but his just warming up after his cracking performance against Uncle Mick's mob midweek.
Moorabbin West and Hampton Central are both strong, Omega rely on Wilkinson heavily to make runs and if he fails they usually lose and Edi/Asp are solid. I think u could throw a blanket over the rest of the field from 6th-12th although East Sandy 2's will start winning soon....a few more players are filtering back into their top grade side.

I hope this will do for the time being.....in the meantime I'm watching the reply of the Spurs smash Wigan 9-1 bashing a few cans on the couch!

SEEEEEEEE YAAAAAAA LAAAAAAAATTTTTTEEEEEERRRRRRRRR!!!!:)

Mathematical chances only, speaking of which feel free to name the odds you would like on the Methodists making the four.

There is a possibility that the golfers will remain in Longy next season. They just need the highly unlikely scenario of an Omega V Union BRC final.

I too, I can't see the top 4 in Longy changing. Whoever loses this round between Elwood & Uniting can call it a day unless Mackie or West Bentleigh get the wobbles up in the 2nd half of the season.
And I wouldn't consider anything highly unlikely at this point of the season in the BRC. In my last 2 seasons at HW we've come from 2-3 after Rd.5 to finish 3rd & 4th respectively. We certainly believe we're capable of pulling it off again and hopefully faring a little better in the March action. The only guarantee in Woolnough is Moorabbin West playing finals with a 5-0 start.

In agreement with The Quilt on Longy four but Bluff is wide open really.
Embarrassed to do a post match after The Clocks probing analysis...very nice
Appears despite good start The Woods will struggle against the upper echelon teams, I like Uniting but they just seem a couple of quality bowlers light, what happened to Middlemiss/Doherty/Coles who all looked like bright prospects??? ANA might still surprise as West have been less than convincing throughout. Kind early draw has helped Omega but they are doing everything they should pretty much and could have got East in Round 3 except they got the panics.
Bluffy is all over the place MW/HC will be contenders, throw a rug over the other 5 in the top 7 and "maybe" Micks lot could cause a stir yet but Merlot's love children are impressing, AERSL should rebound and Om's/Hoops/ANA are all okay sides and District & Uniting have actually been pretty good at times meaning there will be some reasonable squads watching in March.

Merl - if the tribunal stuff on the MJF website kicks in soon, I think it is starting to tick some boxes (bit of positivity - don't start on me Arch).
Burger - as Mick said I get to "cart" myself around to several games so I reckon Sugar is doing a good job given he is actually on the field on Saturday's and the deadlines are fairly tight.
PS.Thanks for sticking up for the old CMCA show Merl a few pages back. I know from the amount of brown stuff I used to cop on field (and now) that there are plenty of listeners.

Quilton i also think the Uniting lads will battle to make it, Alot hangs on what Surridge does. But just saying if any team has a dream run they can make it as only % separates.

Jimmy.....Middlemiss is working interstate and has been for a couple of years now, Doherty is inj and may not play to many this year & Coles well i can only assume he has lost interest in Cricket, he is one of those athletic sports type who loves Footy alot more then spending Saturday chasing a red ball. But he does like to bowl fast and try to scare the crap out of people.:D

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening All,

Merl missed his nightly post yesterday and I am not sure why.

Adam,

Have just finished my fortnightly dose of the highly rated and rating youtube show and it was it's excellent self again. With the tie back on ,you returned to your satorial elegant self as opposed to the tieless judge who disappointed me by not mentioning the tribunal result.Has Barrack rang the new President and gagged him?

You have got to be joking thinking the jellies could update results as some of their BCF popguns could use some of their computer skills to better use, we may actually get some jelly results on the MJFWS.

Jimmy

Hope the holiday is going well but come back soon Tommy is a rudderless ship.He still thinks you will be back next Sunday if the Aussies depose of the calypso kings in 3 days.

Maybe we could run a straw poll on the BCF as I am almost certain that your Sunday cticket show has a large following.Whenever you are missing a result or lacking some vital information someone always rings in.Then you have all the juniors who want to hear their name read out, while some just tune in to hear Trigger cough and splutter in between getting every second name right.
Keep up the good work as there are many satified listeners out there in radio land.
I also see from your bugle today that the BBQ's have finally become the aqua blues it would have been a bit more professional if one of them actually tucked his shirt in!!!

Not sure what you meant by the tribunal update comment but a quick look reveal the usual spider web, no activity status as usual.

You have obviously found computer access up there so there is truth in the rumour that microsoft has gone that far north!!

Brett

What's a penalty ATM is that like a hole in the wall?

Time running out for the tipsters to give me a PM on one or 12 of the games played last week.Failure will mean punishment!!!

Has anyone seen or heard of Saul, will Merl need a visit to dog park to verify that he is alive and hasn't been burdened with the added responsibility of the captaincy. He maybe in hiding with our illustrious founder B?

until next time............... vino sipping poster............... Merlot

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

I heard there was a few reports from the cluden omega game in wooly.

anyone with news on the tribunal??

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Merl,

Not that it really matters if I lose 5 points as my tipping is disastrous. The outcome of our game was that the District boys were missing too many quality bats that were playing in their turf ones. (Hilly, Nick Smith and Oldfield to name a few). We were very glad that their first eleven captain stuck to his duty of going to a wedding. Smashed me for one over in the first week and looked extremely dangerous.

Until the District boys can work out their teams between synthetic and turf they will be hot and cold all season.

Tips to come. (Don't know why I bother!)

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Post mortem on our game was Hampton United gave up. Bell looked dangerous picking up the first 3 wickets clean bowled and Dixon was tight all day, but they are seriously struggling beyond those 2. Our 4 & 5 put on 100+ then with 20-30 runs to get United started giving players a bowl who I'd be surprised to hear if they got a bowl in their E grade side. I'd hate to know what the count was for drop catches as well.

Tips for next week's 1 day matches are:
Longmuir
ANA
ESBC
Uniting
Mackie
West Bentleigh

Woolnough

Moorabbin West
Hampton Central
AERSL

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

It has been drawn to my attention that in my preview of the recently completed round that I offended a few of our fellow scribes from Brighton Central.

This was not my intention as the 'offending' passage was actually referring to Moorabbin West. The term 'Good for all concerned' was meant to highlight the fact that the Weststars will have some difficult selection choices. For some reason it appeared in the next text.It was not my intention to offend Brighton Central and I apologise for the oversight. :)

In Woolnough another big score recorded by the West Stars without the services of their calendar boy for the second match running;despite an early hiccup.Confidence is running very high and there could be some serious competition for positions come finals time.Good for all concerned
Centrals are now falling away and will fight out the bottom few spots.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

It was a pretty fiery clash down at William St on the weekend with a experienced BBQ'er becoming flustered in a tight finish. As a result of this a certain opening bat/bowler for the Ommers was reported as well as the Captain. The captain got off, but the all rounder received a one match suspension by the unpredictable jury.
Down at the 'Brick' the ones were impressive in chasing a pretty daunting score. Two really important partnerships saw the Ommers record consecutive wins for the first time in 3 seasons. After losing 3-1 the Captain/coach and a rejuvenated Cliffy Ryan held steady to put the boys back on track. As pup said it's great to see Matty Patrick back amongst it in Longy, and with 'snake' Slucki they managed to get the boys home with a few overs to spare.

A pretty interesting side bet between good mates 'B' and 'Slim' in this weeks clash down at the oasis.

Merl, I'm pretty sure i've been jibbed 3 tips the last round. I'm sure i tipped 10 instead of the 7 i was credited with.
