Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Clocker, our understanding re the Union game was that Veitch injured himself at training mid match, in between weeks 1 & 2, so I'm not sure how we should have done it differently. The irony was that Covey wasn't fielding in the Woolnough game, but happened to sub for Veitch when he returned to Hurlingham, so try to work that one out? Maybe 5-10 years ago when our reputation as a club was a bit more abrasive, we may have had a whinge, but I don't think we've got enough credits on the field ATM to start being a$$holes off it.

Also, on a bright note, the great Cedric Jansz has defied the odds and father time once again to earn selection in the First Eleven at 50 years of age. It will be pleasing to see him and his son Bryce compete in Longmuir Shield on the weekend of our 80th celebrations.

Like Manchester City in the EPL, I'm hoping to sneak into 4th spot in the BCF.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

We'll know more about how abrasive that reputation is with no umpires assigned to the Highett West encounter in Woolnough. A little frustrating given we're a 1st XI side, but you can't argue when the competition isn't blessed with great numbers in the BBQ fraternity and both sides will have no impact on finals placings.

Unfortunately Sugar, tipping ANA in Wooly won't help your attempts to emulate the Blues.

Gotta say Clocker, brilliant missives you have fired off in the last 2-3 weeks, much entertainment and I don't think you've missed too many. What have the gas bottle boys done to you though? Bit of venom there.
Sugar, seems you have been anointed the Hugh Hefner of CMCA circles!!

Good luck PDOG & OB, in Peter Landy parlance I think it's coming down to "Two, each of one", never really understood that.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

So it all comes down to the wire.

Most of the games look like they have clear cut winners, but there's always one or two upsets that seem to happen.

Uncle Mick,

If i wasn't busy at the Grand child's birthday party I would come and do the BBQ job for you as I had a little practice at the caper as I slid down the playing grades over the years, where we had to supply our own BBQ.Couldn't do much worse and wouldn't hand in my employment stub due to a couple of rowdy cowboys.

Sugar,

Surely you are too young to even be considered a Hugh Hefner?

Burger,

You are dreaming and clutching at straws.
A, you won't catch me,B Merl's Cluden boys will enter the finals full of steam after they have despatched the pathetic purple and golds down to Quiney shield.I would have to check the early season posts but there was no agreement from my end to reveal the mystery that is Merlot it was all from your end.You musn't be able to sleep at night worrying.

Good luck

To vinnie and one of the Jammos as it all comes to whether Vinnie and the sword can get the chocolates over the inconsistent Cococabana beach mob!!
Vinnie you will need to trouble the scores to get the job done.

Clocker

I am saving you till last as I thought you were a man of great intelligence despite your now obvious close royal connections.

I don't intend to to tell you again they are not my beloved hoops , as the Bullies,The Highway patrol , the Political nightmare,The pretenders or whatever you like to call them have nothing to do with the great man Merlot!!

Your analysis of the two substitution rackets are poles apart as the Highway Patrol were in the field and obviously were granted permission by the judge as Sugar has clarified to use sub fielders.

The oasis mob who were batting clearly contravened the laws of Cricket which I have studied in great detail over many considerable years, in addition the CMCA local rules and fore mentioned M.Lyons ammendment were also clearly breached.

Barrack has taken up umpiring again after a nearly 40 year sojurn and he and his fellow congress sub committee has made a gross error of judgement as have you in saying the gas bottles were not didled out of the points. At appeal they would surely be awarded the points as the oasis case is just desert sands through the hour glass.so don't give me your claptrap as I am a great fan of your work but in this case you are wrong.

No doubt you will enjoy the big 80th reunion bash!!!!

until next time..................... Vino sipping poster............ Merlot

Have i?

I have no idea mate, no reason i don't even know what the ladder is mate to be honest.
Went for a few upsets this round in the hope of climbing a couple of spots on the ladder.
Anyway good luck tomorrow take care:D

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Machine, elwood just haven't got enough stars
West B, '' outright ''

ANA
Cluden, '' can they win the in the finals ''

Summaries next week, Clock hope you have a great night at the 80th.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

What a awesome effort by Bentleigh Uniting yesterday, rattle Omega for 99 and 0/41 at stumps. Damien Britt sensational with 6fa locking in another 3 votes and ending Omegas fantastic year lifting West Bentleigh into 4th spot.
Is Damien Britt a legit chance for Player of the year?

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening All,

Before I get to the half bottle I have a few salutations to make.

Clock,

No doubt you enjoyed the night at the Royal 80th with all your good friends from the George.

Merl is still looking for his invite but obviously Adam and the boys have eliminated Merl from the data base and anyway the Grand child's party stretched into the evening which would have prevented Merl attending. The reports on Jimmy's radio show said it was a good and professional night but I nearly fell out of the armchair when i heard Robbo say that fine upstanding citizen Cedric Jansz was accused of cheating when filling in for an aqua back in the dark ages ( excuse the pun! )

The Go Dees look to have started 2010 in the same vein as 2009 although we haven't won out in the Wild West for some time.I will look forward to Jack Watts being a star in 4 years time while watching Natanui picking up a couple of Brownlows in between!!!

Brett,

My good friend even though you don't know it , I see you have jumped on the Cococabana Beach bandwagon even if you never got off it when they completly emptied the gas bottles at the Beach.

Burger,

You must have known something about the pathetic purple and golds to put them in as an anchor in the BTC.Did you put something in the water down there?I will still back Merl's own boys from William st to conquer tiny town and get up, even though it would be nice to see the P & G's get up and send the Jellies to Quiney town!!! Look out for old man river Bennett to lauch for a tommys next week.

I am trying to check a big tribunal story from a lady on the tram regarding a big name that Hamburgler has not managed to have updated on the MJFWS.I am just surprised that Brudes did not ask his usual question and I may have able to get some information earlier from one of my impeccable sources.Watch this space.

Anyway the Merlot Half bottle

the Millionaires teed off against the spiders ( formerly incorrectly called the ants ) and casey jones helped himself to a rare longy double ton but the JGG is not listed as a starter in the match.I hope we don't have another Barrack substitute schmozzle to deal with?

The Clocker Royals teed off against the Golfers and have a defendable but not unbeatable 273 as the club house score. If Cedric could be employed at square leg again the royals in a canter!!

No one snapped up merl's 25 to 1 odds at old Wallett Park and Merl's odds were nearly more than the WP total score. Some of those old boys there for the reunion would have choked on their beers with such a pathetic effort, bring on Woolnough.

Slim's gas bottle mob have unfortunately run out of gas at the wrong time.Despite a great season they have put in their worst effort in the penultimate game which would have rewarded them with a well deserved finals berth, just proving my dear late Mum's saying that money ( ie the millionaires ) can't buy happiness but come next Saturday night the millionaires will be very happy with a spot in the four.

As I missed the start of Jimmy's radio show and there was no score for B's mob in the paper I got the impression from Jimmy that B and mob did not score heavily and that merl's beach boys are a chance to return to the hit parade but their poor percentage will not allow them to see any finals action.Watch this space or in fact Jimmy's space.

Brude's panthers have a healthy 246 a very equilibrium score of consecutive numbers for the uninitiated. No sure what part Brude's played in this tally but the larger than life Moose will need to marshall ( not Bunting ) the troops to a disciplined effort to get the runs which Jimmy also informed me on the highly rating show could get them a double chance if B's mob throw away all the hard work and let the beach boys kick sand in their face.It will go down to the wire!!!

In the Bluff Road Cup

Let me firstly commend the magnificent work done by the Cocobana Beach stalwart John Halliday who you can always rely on to get a CCB score on the MJFWS of a saturday night. If all clubs were the same Merl would be better informed.

Anyway Vinnie not sure if you troubled the scorers but you have got the runs on the board and have something for Cruwys to bowl at.Looks like you will only need the two of the four burners on the BBQ after Slim's lot left you to finish off at the business end!!Best wishes as a win on the field will also ensure you raise the prestigious Merlot Horlicks trophy off the field.

Burger's mob must have been drinking some of the same water they gave their nearby neighbours as they shallaked the disorganised politically troubled highway patrol.Merl's observant eye sees that a sub took a catch so I hope that the due clocker process has been observed to prevent yet another Barrack shambles!!

Saul and one of the Jammos mob made nearly as many this week as they did in two digs last game a great improvement. It would be great for the jellies to snatch another defeat from the jaws of victory but merl's genie can only grant so many wishes.I see the fiscal one has slid out of this side and was actually getting some wickets with his pies in the lower grades!!

Good to see the return of the oasisless Bottsy to the side after the no doubt emmotional reunion at the oasis last week. With a legs 11 contribution to the scoreboard no doubt his fiery pace bowling will help get his mob home over the october champions from down the beach.

As previously mentioned Jimmy's very own purple & golds threw off their pathetic tag to give themselves a chance against Merl's Cluden. With the double chance on offer and Burger's ill informed mystery relevation not about to happen I will stck Merl's thick neck out and may even get the Beemer out to Olive St to cheer the boys home. But if old man river gets going I don't want any of his missiles giving the immaculate paint work a touch up!!!

My good friend Uncle Mick's mob got the 80th birthday boys out for an even 200 and went and a little bat for a few overs.Jimmy was talikg some rubbish about a headband which i didn't understand and gave the impression UM wouldn't need the whites next week but could relax with some off field activities. In the words of Pauline Hanson could someone please explain to a simple man that is Merlot.

I have been on this long enough punching out the half bottle that i can now confirm the Go Dees have sucumbed to the anchors from the west.Could be another long season in the long room.Sugar surely you are not going to subject that child to years of misery that you and I have had to suffer since that one day in September 64 and the glory days of the 50's.Well at least I was there, you weren't even born!!

until next time.................. vino sipping poster............. Prof Merlot

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

What an effort from Damien Casey from West Bentleigh on Saturday. 217*, batted the innings & was only dropped on 159.

Apparently it's the 2nd highest score in Longmuir history.

Great stuff Hawk!

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Unfortunately I missed the show yesterday Merl, but the headband reference would be the one I'd been wearing since the ever lovely decided to wash my hat and stick it in the bottom of a drawer. I couldn't find it for a few weeks and the headband became the alternative.
As for next week, I won't need the whites but there will be no off field activities. I'll be standing in as an umpire after failing with the bat and will endeavour to give an honest account of myself. The same can't be said about a certain ANA batsman who may have a relative mentioned in Merl's most recent post. And one of their other bats was responsible for one of the more appalling efforts seen on a cricket field. Caught in first slip after the ball jammed in on his gloves and bobbled up off his helmet he tried to stand his ground and put the heat on his own teammate to make the decision as umpire. I could wear it if he were a neutral umpire as it's their job to make those decisions, but to put your own teammate in that position is one of the more ordinary acts I've seen.
That aside it was an interesting day's play. ANA got out of the blocks quickly, but were losing wickets at a rate as well. One of our youngsters took the best catch I've ever witnessed live. Our catching pre-tea break was first rate. After tea was pretty woeful, myself included. I'd say ANA would've been disappointed with 200 on our ground, but Tim Caterson bowled well to pick up 2 early wickets and give them a sniff. I'd still reckon we've got our noses in front at the moment, but an early wicket next week might change that.
Elsewhere it was a massive performance from Hampton United to get 297 after their forgettable season. I'm led to believe Saul & Jamo's mob are having a restructure that may save the purple & gold's the indignity of relegation. Either way, I can't see Cluden making the score. The other Hampton put up a massive score. All the talk will be about May & Amoore, but a special mention must go to Charlie Anderson who ran a 5 on Big Hurly.
And last of all.... to follow up on Not Out's post, Hawk's effort was even more impressive given he failed to clear the pickets of Lord's Reserve as he carried the bat from start to finish. I'm told his 217* is a club record as well. Brilliant knock from a champion bloke.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Can explain the following Merl. Oasis Machine 190 v Beach Boys 0/9, HW 2/ overnight inc. UM who was given plently of advice as he departed, Senior Beanie not in evidence at Sillitoe but might be best if you leave the beamer out in Ludsone Street anyway.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

See also that Ordinar/PDog tipping comp comes down to one game in the BRC ehich would be the game OB is participating in. Evenly poised at that!!!

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

To further add to the the chorus, what a devastating performance by the Uniting attack. Not enough has been said about the bowling performance of Chubbs who bowled brilliantly, beating the bat consistently and finding edge after edge, balls dropping just short or wide of fieldsmen. No luck whatsoever. I always thought that if Omega was going to win this one it would have happened whilst chasing as they have done this a few times this season. The ground at Centenary was looking a treat and with the Oasis looking a treat as well, it will ensure that some grades will be fortunate to play on impeccable cricket grounds during the finals. The council has done a remarkable job and if these grounds are the forerunners of what all grounds are expected to look like, then we will indeed be spoilt in a few years time.

Circa round 1 & 2. Washington had just brushed aside Kingston Heath in Round 1 and then seemingly had Le Page on the ropes in Round 2. The future looked bright with the youth of the club seemingly taking the next step. Circa Round 11. A Grand Final reunion held at Shark Park whilst their senior team was tasked with the assignment to defeat a rampaging and strengthened Juggernaut to save their Longmuir status. The beer flowed as the former greats enjoyed watching the Sharks seconds participate in the Quiney Shield, against Army and his foreign legion. The firsts all but forgotten and banished to Chisholm Reserve, performed like a team that was not loved nor appreciated and not surprisingly the result was all out for 56.The prospect of being used for fielding practice next week is as depressing as the result.

The Royals got the job done and restored some faith on the day of the 80th Anniversary.A change of ball at the end of the 4th over resulted in a LBW decision with the very first ball with the new pill. And they say it is a batsman's game! A fair minded aqua may have given him the benefit of the doubt, just to give him a sighter. No it is a cruel game cricket.

The Oasis have their work cut out on a pitch that will give no assistance to their bowlers.A lot of work ahead for the Machine if they want the double chance. They have answered most of the challenges thrown at them, and this assignment will be no different.

The Panthers who seem to be enjoying their cricket of late, made the Hoops work hard in the field on a hot and frustrating day for them. The Hoops have a finals type score too chase and their much vaunted batting line up has run out of excuses. If they want the double chance then they must chase the down the score, and hope a result goes their way. This would bring a collective tear to the eye of Arch and Merlot as they sneak in for a quick chardonnay.

The Cowboys (minus their star recruit) were fuming at last weeks capitulation, and they did make the hapless Spiders pay. A Casey led 217* was the cream on the cake as the news filtered from Centenary Park at the demise of the Ommies. Now assuming weather plays no part in this match and the rest of the round then next week will be a mere formality.

Like an actor that has been spurned, Hampton Central returned to the centre stage with a devastating performance by two of its leading players. The forgotten Hoops continued what has been a nightmare six weeks. They have been ignominiously dumped from any finals action and will act as a support cast in the event any injuries occur to the anointed ones representing the firsts.Servants quarters are at the rear of the pavillion.

Urgent calls to IBM as Hampton United approached 300.Why has it taken 11 rounds before others decided it was time to stand up and provide support? Jimmy Shim seems to enjoy playing against the Real Deal. He was part of valuable 10th wicket partnership of 41 against the Real Deal last season which resulted in a win. The RD will have their work cut out chasing 300 against a very good attack, assuming Dixon is able to bowl.A perfect finals preparation for the RD.The less said about Robbo's consistent attempt to get a cheap laugh from people's surnames the better. How about moving on from the 1950's and get into 2010.

The perennial flag favorites the West Stars got the job done against an opponent that has always given them problems. No doubt the West Stars would have been interested in the developments at Hurlingham with their likely opponents in the second semi making an unequivocal statement that they were ready for the business end of the season.

They Royals and the Kookas were not worthy of an umpire, but nonetheless the match is evenly poised, despite some unsavory incidents.Uncle Mick will be the guest umpire for the remainder of the game.Alas he cannot pay 50 metre penalties.I suspect that they may have been a few if he could.

The Juggernaut need 141 to remain in Woolnough. They cannot rely on other results, and have their future in their own hands. No one else to blame in this one.Centrals have been nervously looking over their shoulders but are safe. What does the future hold for Brighton Central, we will have to wait and see.

Finally the Ommies made a competitive 219 and threatened to take the match out of the reach of Uniting, but some good bowling managed to contain the damage. Uniting's deep batting line up will hold them in good stead and should see them get over the line, assuming Merlot and Co do not lodge any late appeals with the Stewards. Keep an ear out for any protest sirens.
