Hmmm, how many quicks are left in Longy that will make batsmen uncomfotable and hurry up their shots? Not many compared to a few years ago I dare say.Another year where the bat will dominate the ball....
I hear the boys at 'The Hilton' (LPCC) have picked up a left arm quick from down south who might hurry up a few batsmen!
What the hell is going on with the fixtre????

Good to hear from you Panther and good to see that the lads down at Le Page just going about their business nice and quietly. It would be good to hear from some of the other clubs with tid bits. With regards to the fixture there are obviously issues with the ground, but once again the Executive has let all and sundry down by failing to keep everyone updated via the website. A one or two paragraph release would suffice.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Congratulations to the Cats on a great Grand Final victory and commisserations to the Saints who were magnificent in defeat and can hold their heads high in the way they have conducted themselves before during and after the game.I did manage to sneak into a very crowded Long room for a couple of frothies to escape Melbourne's bitter weather.I can only dream that the Go Dees with Watts,Scully,Trengrove etc will one day again grace their ancestrial home on that one day in September just like they regularly did in the 50's.

Merlot,
You would expect the Cats to win the GF after all they have rorted the draft system (as did Brisbane when they gutted the hapless Fitzroy FC) with their father son rule:G Ablett, N Ablett, Blake, Scarlett & Hawkins along with some pretty good first draft picks. Most teams has spent time at the bottom of the ladder before they climb back up except Geelong. Now we will have to put up with Gold Coast throwing million dollar contracts around.....Disgraceful.

Shteeven is that you?!

Looks like the inclement weather may halt proceedings. Does anyone know if the new laws introduced in the Woolnough Shield Grand Final still apply?

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Evening All,

I see Jimmy has reloaded the camera and produced the Missen Statement on the still Michael J Fox website. But where has he been on the BCF or has he got a new identity or has the mega star just been too busy to contribute. So many questions very few answers.

Sincerest apologies for being AWOL Mr.Merlot, been picking out all the splinters as per Archie's instructions and given my sizable carcass it took a while. Casual eye has been cast upon BCF from time to time but have to admit that all the crafty references and subterfuge have confused me and I totally lost the thread of what was going on. Might be a couple of new quickies on the scene to liven things up but suspect Clocker is on the money with another batsmans season coming up (which is not a bad thing - has not been too many genuinely sharp quicks in last 20 years). Best bowlers still always go okay. Couple of teams to give East a contest this year too. Uncle Mick going to help out on Sunday mornings this year as well, wonder whether I can twist Merlot's golden arm??
You were on the money on Mrs.Kain too, Sugar must be going a bit better that I thought. Does this make him the Dean Cox of the CMCA?
I think congress have had a tough time with arena's but at least they will all be green for a few rounds, now if we can just resist the urge to cut them too low.:confused:

Jimmy

Nice to have you back and it's like riding a bike you will get use to it again.Maybe you could exert some influence and get the Michael J Fox website showing the correct update date rather than the date in the future when it was supposed to be updated.Turning UM into a radio star and maybe Johnson & Johnson through their leading man Daniel/Quilton can sponsor the show.Just tee up the voice distortion mixer and the mystery that is Merl could make an appearance in the 88.3 studio.

The rubix cube has been solved and we have a fixture which could prove to be useless if our record breaking rain continues.I see a new name in there of the Kingston Saints/St Bedes who have blessed us with their presence this season.

I believe iron gloves will make a belated start to the season as he attends to a family holiday somewhere!

Clocker

You have been a bit tough on the cats who have proved to be a very good side who could of had 3 in a row if they hadn't gone to sleep last year.Memories of the great Go Dees of the 50's keep popping into my head.

I think Adam is about 3 foot shorter than Dean Cox but that moniker could stick.

As we speak the capts and Aqua blues are no doubt getting the Barrack presidential oratory at the SOC and with a bit of luck the UA may have also made a brief appearance.A little birdie told me the aqua numbers are quite good and could even stretch into the 30's and pushing them down the grades.I will wait in anticipation as to whether it is quality or quantity that we end up with.

5 days to go to that one day in October and Archie now that we have a fixture we can load the GPS with our boundary line destinations where it could be wet on both the inside and outside

cold enough for a Horlicks

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Not bad Clocker, but how do you stop them?
You can scrap Danny Corp from the list. He'll be gone by the end of next month. However, out goes one and in comes another. Guy Martyn will be back playing this year. Might have to work a bit harder to find stats on him.

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Nice Clocker but Uncle Mick is right how do you stop them.

For starters you need no passengers in your side, need 11 contributors.

You need to find the mix between been aggresive & defensive they have guys who like to play there shots so you need to force them into making mistakes by bowling good areas. I like the idea of a in out field were you have catchers and blokes to protect there shots they like to play.
They bat deep so getting early wickets may temporarily slow them down but the blokes who bat low are capable of batting high which makes it even harder if your are lucky to restrict them to a score of 200 which is a good result as your not going to get them under anything less then that.

They have alot of good bowlers losing Manders was not ideal but that just means someone else gets opportunity's, Take a risk with your batting and send in a bloke at the top who can get you off to a flyer if he can chance his arm and get away with it your right in the game, you need to have a game plan to each bowler know what to do with there strengths when bowling and wait on there weaknesses to score.
Every bowling team leaks runs you just need to be able to make the most of it, Luke Dallas very clever cricketer and spinner but if you can use your feet to him you will create opportunities to score as they back him to keep it tight and pressure for wickets, but as earlier mentioned you need to bat deep you also need to not get caught in the ore of this great side which they are undoubtedly they can be beaten but you can't go in your shell.

Anyway that is my thoughts on the juggernaught, BUCC did manage to beat them the year we won the flag & ESBCC are probably the team i have been most successful against with the bat not big noting myself here just trying to show perhaps i know what i am saying as my last 4 knocks against the juggernaut were 95,68,76 & 47

For the first time in many years the juggeranut is looking vulnerable. They don't seem to have the depth they had a few years ago, but having said that they will still take a lot of beating.I am not sure they will have the luxury of chopping and changing their batting line up, but in all reality they were barely pushed last season apart from one game where they lost and another where Hampton Centrals gave them a fright the rest of the competition just wilted. If you are going to beat the juggernaut, you have to bat your overs out, and post a score of 230+.You have to bowl straight and tight and make them force the issue and as a result force a few mistakes.
Phelan,Duddy & Dallas are prone to being bowled and/or LBW, so there is a message there in that you have to bowl at the pegs and give then very little room.Based on the Wisden equivalent (The Missen Statement) the Hoops have picked up quite a few handy players, but everytime they come up against the Juggernaut they go to water. At least the New Wallet Park (West Bentleigh) have at least beaten the juggernaut and ofcourse Mackie seems to have had their measure over the past few seasons as they have performed quite well.It is a pity they cannot do it for the whole season but that is another story.
Based on the new information relayed by Mr Missen I think it could end up:

Juggernaut
Hoops
New Wallett Park
Baracks Buddies

The Health Society
Oasis
Coco Beach
New Boys on the Block
Panthers
Spiders
Old Wallet Park
Omega

Brett I presume you had the assistance of some team mates in defeating them? Wouldn't hurt to acknowledge them or mention some of the memorable performaces excluding yours ofcourse....

Welcome back Jimmy,
We were all starting to worry about you, as i believe that removing splinters from one's Krackatoa is harder than expected.
If you need to borrow some tweezers then i might be able to help you, maybe you could trim up the old passage while you're at it.
I see everyone's got their predictions up, it has inspired old Arch to pass on his as well, with some '' take or leave it reasons ''.

Hoops - very even team with more than enough match winners, new recruits will make the difference, keen and well balanced.
NWP - Huge pressure on JGG, Can he perform for the 3rd season in a row? If he does, then the others will follow, also have a couple of new players, but may take some time to play together the way JGG wants.
Gold Caps - Will win enough games to play finals, tried and true may be not good enough anymore, will cop plenty of pressure to perform from within.
BB - Will scrap in if their young blokes step up, may find it harder playing away from the lake, as every game is an away game.
THS - Still blooding some talented young blokes who will be better off with last season games under their belts. The new gun quick has not landed yet as i believe the boat is still around the Horn somewhere. Depth may be an issue.
Oasis - Still have some talented cricketers but need a new game plan. I believe they will be playing some young blokes, so its a rebuilding period for them and well overdue, will take time to develop.
NBOTB - Sticking my nose out here, but keeness makes up for allot sometimes, and i'm tipping them to win at least 4, need to consolidate and not suffer the fate of others that have come up and gone back in 1 season.
Panthers - Big season for them just to stay viable, not enough match winners to trouble the top 4, need to get a couple of big time players to help their skipper.
OWP - Will need to develop their young blokes as well, and not rely on the old fossils, have a couple of good one's in the 2's which will need game time.
Have a few classy bats who can cause some damage. How long can TD keep playing for?
Spiders - Again, this season needs to be a development season, however , you still need to win games while trying to do so. Have picked a couple, but may still keep treading water.
Ommies - Placing a high emphasis on youth, some of which will benefit from last season. Their seconds will also be a young side, so its all out youth. Will take some time, but are on the right track, just need to stay in the top grade for the time being.
Coco Beach - Unfortunately, the loss of the alphabet will be too much, their 2 other main players will not have enough help, so its a big ask for the new coach who may be under exteme pressure around xmas time once again.
Just not enough match winners.

As you can see, there will be daylight between the top 4, but this season will be the start of a new generation of young players who will be better off for the experience, it takes 3 to 4 seasons [ 40 to 50 games ] to make your mark.
This is why i'm predicting the Hoops to take the big prize, as their development started about 5 years ago, coupled with some big recruits, they will have enough ability to account for the others.

Good luck to everyone, Merl , see you in our usual spot for some week to week updates.

Its time for a double Horlicks with milk.:p:)

Re: City of Moorabbin Cricket Association 09/10

Just back from the banks of the river of Babylon where we remembered Zion, and UM I don't even mention his name anymore. What can you tell us about your impending radio career with Jimmy? Also Clock I think he was having a go at me not you!

I refuse to use the J name for those Gold Cap clowns who have manipulated their way to the top over many years!

No word yet on how the capts & aqua blues night went last night anyone attend the evening?

Please to see a bit of action on the Michael J Fox website which could be a promise of things to come.

Saw a few grounds under repair as I took the beemer for a bit of a joy ride today in the beautiful sunshine as councils belated start to put a bit of work into their prized assets.

May need to hop on to the next air India flight to get JB out of a spot of trouble where Merl could use some of his influential Indian contacts to smooth the ship.

No doubt there were good numbers at training tonight with the ideal spring weather and all the old familiar faces pushing to get a game ahead of the new kids on the block.

the chief commissioner has advised that the lost and found serveilence has been successful and a few of the regulars could filter back in to BCF this week.

Boney M (oops sorry) Merlot...............your vino sipping poster...signing off.
