Darwin & District Cricket - 2012

Cause about 5 other blokes did the same thing. Team of the year is purely statistical I believe as well but the team I've selected probably isn't quite that. Presentation is next Wednesday.

On other news, I think it is official that Cav has stood down as club president at TV. Be interesting to see what direction they head next year.

There was also the Cricket Australia Roadshow on tonight, was reasonable discussion but probably a little to commercial/marketing jazz.

5 other blokes? Besides Miller who else took 20+ wickets and scored over 500 runs, also the second innings for the PINT Darwin game isn't complete and the last game for PINT hasn't been done yet, Robins took wickets in both. He must be a smoky for Player of the year

Firstly, the requirements are a keeper, six batsmen and four bowlers. Weerasinghe, Reichstein and Taylor are no brainers, while the keeping option unfortunately goes to Christopherson.

Robins is then competing for one bowling spot or a batting spot, all the batsmen I feel I've listed are better bats, average more and have scored more runs or close to at a better average this season. This leaves one bowling spot and with Keen, Miller and Berry already your allrounders in the side, you would go for an out and out bowler, hence Mitchell making the cut with 31 wickets, an average of 15.26 and a striker rate of 25.19.

The allrounders with 500 or close to 500 runs and 20+ poles are;

Steve Taylor 42 wickets @ 16 and 439 runs at 24
Matthew Hanna 31 wickets @ 16 and 333 runs at 33
Solomon Mire 24 wickets @ 22 and 458 runs at 32
Ben Reichstein 48 wickets @ 16 and 364 runs at 26
Simon Keen 21 wickets @ 14 and 475 runs at 39
Nick Winter 22 wickets @ 24 and 236 runs at 29 (only 10 matches)
Sam Miller 23 wickets @ 22 and 687 runs 42

Luke Robins 24 wickets @ 27 and 532 runs @ 29.

Yes, these blokes have performed all round duties this year. But not all of them have an argument to be even considered as an allrounder for the team of the year. I say Reichstein, Keen and Miller are no brainers. As for the others, well, they just had good seasons. Hanna taking 31 wickets - he bowls with the new ball and plenty of overs. Mire didn't statistically offer enough with either. Taylor I thought was mainly a batsman and his average is particularly low if that is the case. Robins fits into category of Hanna - lots of opportunity and had a good season.

Lets leave this talk till the end of the finals and see which 'allrounder' stands up in the big finals. These are the games that count

Having the best bowler in the comp not being able to ball will hurt palmo but with Herman mccann and chatto playing b grade they will be fine no carter hurts but carbone and regan will fire!! Tahs have run out of frequent flyer points so they may not feild a side this week! a final at kahlin against lavers and berry is a bad idea flynn get it moved!!!!!!!!!
Palmo in massive trouble. Hanna, gallow, crowe and carter not in selected side. without these blokes will surely find it hard to win. also rumoured that there's a lot of shit going on within the team. word on the street is the players aren't happy and don't like the skipper. with an average of 17 and batting himself at 3 would probably have something to do with this.

Hanna Back this week and clarence out so gonna be a cracking GF. i warned mr flynn on friday to move Darwin pint game Darwin had no hope at all Lavers was always gonna be the DIF

Yeah some more discussion is needed regarding the over rates, being penalised for bowling a side out and then the letter of the law not being followed, leaves me wondering why even have a rule book.

Lavers batted well after we missed three earlier chances, the difference was we put on our worst fielding display for the season besides Christian Thiel.

I don't know if fielding can really be blamed for Darwin's loss. Being bundled out for 60 i pretty hard to defend. Despite the over rate issue it didnt really affect any of the games with Palmo getting across the line despite being penalised and darwin still 260 short of the original total.

I'm not excusing the batting performance by us but two quick wickets after lunch should have been followed by a third and then well into putting pressure on your tail and maybe have the opportunity to bat early after tea. The overrate would likely have not been an issue from there.

Yeah fair enough then. How about Palmerston? Arguably two of the worser batsmen in the competition pulling together for a classy win, their tail hasn't wagged since Hanna's 100.

over rates haha come on thats the best excuse darwin can do? what about not good enough or lucky to have finished on top maybe? very good to see $$$ still doesnt get you into a GF Palmo one inport on weekend Herman and he maybe dropped for Hanna? Pints lose there one in Clarence! so could be all local GF! Cater and Crowe would be huge ins for Palmo if they could play then palmo easy but with only Bleakly and Williams capable of 100s Regan 50s and everyone else down to 10 cableable of 30s! Were pints have lavers and berry who can get 150+ bell & robbins close to 100! hope palmo can go back to back

Could be Crees dropped for Hanna I think. Herman has shown form with the bat and is also a better bowler. The only question is which Udara will show up, the guy who bowls 30 overs and bats 3, or the guy who wants to win?
