Just glancing at the junior forums on here, and according to the posters we will have 25 superstars in the senior ranks over the next 2 years.
I do agree that if you haven't the cattle then you are up against it. As long as that cattle is getting the best out of themselves. I have found that a lot of players could be better but would rather bludge on the proven better players to get them through.

They certainly don't mind themselves these young blokes. It's a real shame some of them aren't already playing for Australia.... Just ask them.

I've actually met some of these boys and they are quite shy. False brivado behind a computer, thats all!
They are all welcome to Lalor Stars aswell.

They were all LBW from what I can remember. Dave Moore wasn't umpiring.
Moorey finally conceded yesterday that he got the LBW rule wrong. He was adamant that any ball that pitches outside the off stump could in no way shape or form be given out. Very basic rule that states, a ball pitching outside off stump but hitting the pads in line can be given out. We actually made him go and get the rulebook. Fairly elementary I would have thought.
For all of you smart arses out there who give me grief about how many LBW's
I get or shouldn't get, here is a comparison.
SEASON 2008/09
T.Keays -
283 overs
41 wickets
6 LBW- 14.64%
Played 6 home games on old pitch, played Macleod, Lower Plenty, Research,
who also had old pitches.
P. Baker -
231 overs
49 wickets
14 LBW- 28.6%
Played 10 out of 12 games on new bouncey wickets.

He swings it further than me! He must have been bowling straight those days!:rolleyes:

Is this true David (aka Voice of the Valley)?

And you still got it wrong. 13 boundaries. 1 for every piece of chicken you ate last Monday night, Fatguts.

Food for thought. Probably a bit from left field and keeping with the old adage," If it aint broke dont fix it!"
Eltham are obviously struggling in the batting department and we know a time will come when Skips hangs up his boots. Who is the next best batsman? Who are Eltham grooming for the opening batsman's role after the champ?
If Eltham could find two blokes that can consistantly take the shine off the ball and eat some overs up, their next best batsman outside Skips in at 3 and Skips to follow, would or could this be beneficial or detrimental to the batting structure as it stands now?
Surely a shift in responsibility to the new top 3, but also not as much anxiety within the team knowing if Skips gets out early as an opener the days is over?
If the champ can average coming to the crease around the 20 over mark, I believe this will play on the oppositions' mind. Force them into thinking they have to get him out there as quick as possible. If the two openers can get through to the 1st and 2nd change bowlers life may be a lot easier.
Sometimes throwing a boy amongst the wolves brings the demon out. If you dont try you will never know.

I'll give you all some insider knowledge taht you would not know. Skips will never drop down the order from the opener position. The reason for it, is that he hates waiting around to bat. He can get i guesss you would say a little nervous, and what he would say "bored" he hats watching other people bat, and cannot stand sitting around.

Skips has told me many times, that he bats for so long as he loves being out in the middle, and hates being on the side of the ground. So he doesn't bat to make 100s he bats to keep himself entertained, bats for time. And as we are all aware batting for times brings 100s!

Although I agree that there will have to be life after the great man. There is no way it will change, and i will not change it!

Would you bowl 4th change to give the other blokes a chance to bowl 40 overs to give them experience? NO CHANCE!

PS I will be playing this week in the 1s. God i hope Baker goes fishing! :)

Notiecd on DV website that Research have had to give a walkover for there 3rds & 4ths (4ths play sunday) this game. Hopefully for there sake it's due to a wedding or similar event within the club.

Our club has played them in most grades. They are in MASSIVE trouble! I don't know what has happened up there, but they are really struggling.

To be honest too, watching our 3rds play them (Eltham won outright by 1:30 day 2) they did not care one bit. THe just swung from the ar$e all day. It was actually the worst game i have ever watched!

They need to do something down there!

I have actually heard the same as Tongs.....don't see much wrong in what he said when it was his observation.

I'm exactly the same as Skips. Why would I want to stand around in the heat while my mates are smacking down cans whilst watching the Cox Plate. Might as well bowl for half the day so I dont pester everyone else.
If we had an abundance of decent bowlers I would quite happily bowl 2nd change.

The club is not in massive trouble! Have had serious issues with player`s unavailable IE: 3rds v Eltham. The reason for the forfeit of thirds and fourth`s for the current game was due to players being unfinancial and the President making a stand. Not the way I would have gone about it, but I support the decision. To highlight the unavailability issue, next game we will have 5 missing from A grade due to Schoolies week, just shows how young we are. It will be a battle for the rest of the season with many fluctuations, but on the positive the 1`s and 2`s are both in winning positions and hopefully will get across the line.

Every club has footy trips/weddings/schoolies/spring carnival, no club can use that as an excuse! As for the dropping two teams for being non financial, that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard. Whilst i think its great to make a stand on such issues, to do that to not only the blokes that have paid, but also to the other clubs they are playing is nothing short of selfish!

My comments were not only on the lack of numbers, but also the calibre of players in the teams. Looking at some of the sides, they were simply playing 2 grades above where they should be.

Its a shame, I like Research as a club, and they have many good blokes pup there and don't want to be sitting here potting them, but they are the facts! Hopefully they are able to turn it around soon!

Brilliant effort by Gelnny Turner on the weekend!

I don`t think too many A grade clubs would lose 5 guys in one game too often! And at least 3 a game for every game this year. As for the calibre of players in the teams, I recall our 2`s beating Eltham`s and our 1`s needing 45 off 15 overs with Glen and Shannon Malone doing it easy before a stupid runout turned the game. For all our issues, we are still having a crack and I would back our young players against Elthams anyday! I would even dare to suggest that people in glass houses should not throw stones, Eltham have not been setting the world on fire for quite along time, and been getting by on the strength of a legend in Mark Minney. I would also suggest that the only people who know the facts are those who run and participate in the club! A sensational effort by Glen Turner, but also great work by Leigh McTaggart (bowling and captaincy) and Darcy Barden (17yo) as well. The jobs not done but it`s in our hands.
