Re: DVCA: Barclay Shield

Just wondering if anyone witnessed Shannon Malones 151no against Lower Plenty? Apparently came off 90 balls with 14 fours and 11 sixes with three of those clearing everything and bouncing on Para Rd. Probably worth mentioning the effort of 16yo Tom Gilmore`s 68 and 16yo Alden Meales effort of 38 opening the batting. Good win by Research with no Glen Turner or Matt Ross.

best innings ive ever seen in the dvca (malone)
good effort from gilmore

Re: DVCA: Barclay Shield

Right then, the season's going to over before we know it. Someone's going back to money shield. Macleod are on 15 points and Eltham and Lower Plenty are both on 9. Percentage is similiar for all three teams. Crucially, Eltham play Lower Plenty in the last round! Who's going down? I'm tipping Lower Plenty to beat Eltham in the last round to send Eltham down.

What do people think?

Seems I missed something pretty special! I did throw down a bit of a challenge to him on Saturday morning, he delivered in spades. Full credit to him!

just wondering if anyone can explain why Steven Doyle has been picked as keeper in the comp side? On face value it is a case of playing for the same club as the captain/selector

for example, this years stats

Doyle - 63 runs @9 & 11 catches

McClean ( creek ) 109 runs @ 21.8 & 12 catches

Tenni ( lwr plenty ) 138 runs @ 69 & 6 catches & 1 stumping

Sing ( bundoora ) 87 runs @ 14.5 & 12 catches & 3 stumpings

Johnno ( plenty ) 187 runs @ 23.4 & 5 catches

Nothing against Steve, but would like to know if any of the above players were asked or unavaialble

For the record, the other 11 selections are spot on in my opinion, rewarding guys such as Volpe & Angellucci who have had great seasons up to now.

bundoora, no disrespect intended but pretty cheap shot if you think thats how stevie got pick, both lovey and myself believe he's the best keeper in the comp at the moment and with luke poyer's unavailability we both agreed he was next cab of the rank, he did a awesome job against HDCA last season . i'm sure everyone has different views on different people but he is a outstanding keeper in my opinion as are some of the other guys you mentioned, but we can only pick one unlike batsmen and bowlers. selection as you well know is thankless task and i'm sure others will want to way in there opinions , but i've expressed selectors views and i'll leave it at that!

as if north eltham or wattle glen could ever possibly play in the big league. Maybe just stick to posting in ur own forum.

Re: DVCA: Barclay Shield

2 games left, who will take fourth spot??

i think the top 3 are safe and Plenty, Riverside & Stars are fighting for 4th

we can mathematically make it- need to win both, need plenty to lose both and the winner of the the riverside v lalor game in round 10 to get beat in rd 11. can't see it happening and probably don't deserve to after failing against the 3 top teams.

Plenty - lower eltham & Mernda
Riverside - stars & creek
Stars - riverside & macleod
bundoora - Eltham & Research

my tip is Lalor, i think they will use the home ground to advantage against riverside this week and beat macleod in rd 11 & think plenty will struggle to
beat the top two teams especially up at Mernda last game.

Lalor Stars cant bowl teams out an dont see it changing this week.Lower Eltham are a good team but Plenty's 2 pronged attack of Rossy and Hubber may sort them out.If they can get well established and into the the part timers they will make plenty.Mernda have an earnt a finals berth but cant bat but they should get a home final.Epping still can win it but are on the wane as their best players are ageing rapidly.Bundoora are a bit like Lower Eltham.Good team but a good attack that is disciplined should sort them out.Riverside are smokeys if they make it.Whoever sneaks into 4th spot whether it be Plenty,Bundoora or Riverside can beat Lower Eltham because of decent bowling attacks.Lalor no hope but can make decent totals to chase.

What a great end to the season it is going to be, a few mini finals this week for a couple of teams. Too tough to call, but I'll give you some food for thought:

Plenty - Have the toughest road home, but, have hit some form and have only lost one game since losing the first two of the season. If they beat both the top teams in consecutive weeks they will play finals regardless, win one and they will rely on results, fail in both and they are gone. Rosbrook starting to take some wickets and from all reports starting to bowl some heat. Definitely have the team to beat any side in it. Anything possible in the next two games.

Riverside - The ones to watch. Have looked frightening on the results page the last few weeks. Gibbs undoubtedly the key, and if Pig and Big El can support him with the bat they should win their next two, the big one obviously being this week against Stars. Clappers problem is their bowling, relying on Gibbsy too much, but, if you were going to rely on someone it may as well be him. Are good enough to beat Stars, but are also suspect to the 'choke' and could put in a stinker or two. I'm tipping they will salute twice in the coming weeks but with Plenty winning it won't be enough. If Plenty don't, the Clappers will taste post season action if they can beat the Stars and not stink in the last one.

Stars - Cost themsleves last week when a massive score should have been on the cards. Lost a tight one to Plenty before Xmas they should have won and both games look like biting them in the bottom. On their day can account for Riverside, or could capitulate. Will win at least one but I think they are gone. Win this week, however, and a finals spot is in their hand with easier games than the rest in the final round.

Bundoora - Have to do their bit and win both games, which they should. Then hope for the rest to fall into place. Can't see it happening, especially with poor percentage.

that is alot of grounds to find replacement for. i can see the dvca calling off the season for a few grades. i am sure that there are a few grounds in the whittlesea council that would be deemed unfit as well.
