Dvca - Money Shield - Season 2011/12

has enough thought from the clubs coming into the DVCA been put into calculations & the ramifications it may have on their club, I really don't think so.

I would start suggest that, after BS, the aim should be to have the next best 12 teams in MS; and that the only way of deciding who are the next best 12 teams is to let them play each other.
Which would mean something like using the proposal outlined above by five80, namely:

For next season only, 2 MS Divisions of 8 teams each, comprising all the non-BS clubs( plus or minus Mill Park and/or Hurstbridge).
The 2 Divisional Premiers play off for promotion to BS.

For the following season, MS goes back to a 12-team grade comprised of the top 6 from each MS Division (including the club relegated from BS, and excluding the Club promoted to BS); with the bottom 2 Clubs from each Division going to B Grade.

After that, things continue as at present.

No need to take it so personal mate.6 flags in 8 seasons is a great effort but as last year proves when you finished 4th bottom that sometimes you can work your arse off recruiting but get nowhere. If you can't recruit last year in Barclay how do you expect to do it in 2nd and 3rd div. That is what I am saying. Just because a team is in a lower grade also doesn't mean its crap and isn't trying just as hard as anyone else. They have to work harder. If you have 2 top divisions you will have more teams attracting more high profile talented players therefore building the standard of your comp.
None taken mate..

However we didn't feel the need to recruit players last season as we had just come of back to back flags. Even with 3 of the greatest players to play DVCA retire, as a club we believed out younger boys could develop with 6-7 existing premiership players remaining however out problem was our senior players didn't stand up last season...

So Rosanna, Heidelberg and Banyule are in. Does Riverside, Bundoora or Mill Park get the 14th spot? Or is there a twist? If Bundoora and Riverside don't want to play Money and Mill Park have been relegated for behavioural issues. Does Hurstbridge get offered the spot?

Where its stands at the moment is this:

Riverside: RELEGATED - likely to stay that way.
Mill Park: RELEGATED - Depending on appeal. Id say will remain
Bundoora: Promoted. - Seems like they don't want to go up.

That leaves either Hurstbridge to come up (its their 1st XI, and were in the GF) or Riverside to stay.

I must say I would prefer Hursty. They technically don't deserve it, but I think having 2nd XI's playing against 1st XI's doesn't work.

Mill Park are in B grade next season, appeal was heard, if you can call it that, was dismissed, as there was no new evidence supplied to show any reasons why original decision should not stand.

How will it work next season? 7 2-dayers and 6 1-dayers? Very tough job trying to make a fixture that will be even for everyone

makes it very hard next season for MS clubs, looking at the Saturdays after AFL grand final, looks like they will be playing on opposite weeks to BS and other grades with similar set ups (12 teams) for a fair whack of the season, makes it also hard to have players unavailable at certain levels and trying to fill gaps.
16 would have been ideal, but is still a good thing to have new clubs come across.
14th team SHOULD be Bundoora, you win a premiership, you must take the reward.

My personal opinion is that Bundoora should be made to go up into MS. They know the rules, and relegated teams don't get the option to not be relegated on the same grounds. The way I see it is, if Bundoora request/refuse (whatever you want to call it) to be promoted up, then as a club, they should not be allowed to have any grade promoted for the next 5 years. This is not a direct reflextion on my thoughts on Bundoora, I have said a number of times I have a lot of respect for their members and their committee, this is my thoughts on any club in the DVCA.

As for Mill Park staying down. Do the crime, you do the time. Its a harsh penalty yes, but I think its great the DVCA have been harsh on penalties this year (Baker, Fletcher too). That is the only way we can stamp out any crap that very rarely pops up.

Normally we play 22 Saturdays, so with 14 teams, I would think that 9 two day games (18 weeks) and 4 one day games (4 weeks) which would equal a total of 22 weeks would probably be the best/logical option.

Isn't it normally 20 Saturdays (9x2, 2x1)?
Still, your option is probably still the best.

I like the thinking Tongs, but it looks like only 21 Saturdays are available this year, AFL GF is on 29 Sept, there are 12 Saturdays finishing on Dec 22, restart Jan 5 (although I think this is too early) and play til March 2 is 9 Saturdays, which is 21 in total. This is a late finish, 3 days before Xmas, and only 4 days after New Years, so it looks like a max of 21. Unless a couple of the old Sat/Sun games are fixtured in.

Normally 20 Saturdays. The fixture also needs to work in line with the lower 12 team grades too. If not then the finishing days between MS and lower grades can differ and this doesn't work for selection, unavailability etc.

With all other grades playing 9 2-dayers and 2 1-dayers, MS may have to be the same with 2 extra Sunday 1-day games. IMO the best way it can work for clubs in money shield

We could get progressive and play 8 x 2 dayers, 4 x 1 dayers, and 1 x T20 for points during the week. I can hear the traditionalists choking on their sherry already!

Sorry, you're right. With 20 playing days and with the 14 teams it would have to work out this way: 7 two day games, and 6 one day games. That is the only way it fits.

Unless you play a couple of Saturday/Sunday games.
Undesirable, I know, but presumably it's only for one season.

To reply to a few comments:

five80 1 x T20 game for points. - This is one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. Whilst I am not disagreeing with trying to be inventive, and introducing what looks like the future of cricket (to an extent). You can't purely play 1 of them.

Declaration Bowler: I think the 7 and 6 works just as well as my first comment, therefore not playing the disgusting Saturday Sunday games that no one likes.
