Eca 2011/2012

Well it's bloody quiet in here. Tipping there are a few Mulgrave boys who have vanished from the face of the earth. Congrats to st kevs on leading the table at the halfway mark

The ladder makes for fascinating reading. I'm tipping a lot of changes between now and the end of the season. Bulleen sit 2nd bottom with a % of 131% - lol. There'll be quite a few teams nervous about them making finals. GI did well on the weekend to get the 10 points which make prove important at the end of the season. ED won't make finals and Deepdene would want to get a wriggle on. I'm going to go through the fixtures for the rest of the season and see if I can pick the top 4. My gut, without doing it, is that teams like Ashy and MA will be close and Bulleen will be very close. I think the relegation battle is going to be between Marc, RC and Boronia, but I'll look closer after I've done the fixture predictions.

That truely is a silly percentage to be 11th on the ladder! MA and ashy are also above 1 in 6th and 7th as they make their charge back.

I think the 4 (in no particular order) will end up being out of these 6 teams skevs, haw, glen iris, MA, ashy, deep.

skevs and haw to win enough to make it with the last 2 spots fought out between GI MA Ashy & deep

very very very important one dayer straight after xmas

I think the run to the finals is going to be very interesting as well. I think everyone down to Ashy in 7th is in with a chance for the flag, but 7 into 4 doesn't fit! I think it's probably a fight for 4th. The top 3 should do enough to consolidate their mid season lead. My top 4 is: Skevs, Hawthorn, GI & Mont Albert.

Sorry Terry, but I think RC are in a world of relegation pain at the moment. They would have to win 2 games more than the other bottom sides in 5 games home... Just can't see a way for them to manage that. Bulleen & Mulgrave should do enough to fight their way to mid table and Boronia will scrap, leaving Marcellin the unlucky 11th.

I have GI, Deep, Skevs and Haw in that order for the top 4 with ashy 5th and MA 6th

RC to finish bottom easily with 3 teams fighting to stay up all on the same points, marc, boronia and east donny, coming down to percentage, which at the moment is east donny

Wow, just did it and it's going to be super, super tight this season - % is going to be everything. I know I'll muck up somewhere, but I have 4 teams going through undefeated or losing 1 game only. My potential order is GI one point ahead of MA, with 4 teams on equal points in 3rd 4th 5th and 6th. Even if I'm out a tiny bit, it's going to be one of those seasons where every point should be scrapped for. I haven't predicted any outrights, but there will be a couple I would think (there always it) and that will have a huge bearing on everything.

Some massive ramifications with Bulleen - they can really shape the finals with consecutive games against Deepdene, Ashy and MA, if they pick up 1 or 2 of those, everything goes into chaos. I can't see RC or Marc picking up any points (sorry Terry) after Xmas, but the Boronia v RC game in the last round could be a relegation dogfight 12 pointer!

All in all, I don't think I've seen a more interesting and heartbreaking season in my 16 years of playing and watching ECA Dunstan Shield cricket.

Also, what about a team of the Half Year?
I'll have to go off the stats, but the team I would select is:
R Tongue
T Baker
S Porter
A Suckling
C Armstrong
L Parsons
A Lilley
G Swift
S Patel
G Stafford
S Davidson
12th - A Fernon - the league's premier Leg Spinner now

I would pick spider before swift, more wickets, almost half the average as well as half the strike rate.

Hoe does Stafford get a run? One squall doesnt make a summer...I know he snared 8/4 but hasnt really troubled sides before then...I propose a wait and see on his inclusion. Rest look fair...tend to agree Swift over Spider

Ahhhh back at work. Great fun. Especially as the test is on! I went off stats and he deserved to be in, IMO.

This weeks tips.

Glen Iris v Hawthorn - Hawks for me
Marcellin v East Donny - toss of coin - go marc at home
Willows v Mulg - Ashy at home - Mulg dropped the ball
St K v Mont - Mont are not a good 1 day side
Bulleen v Boronia - as above
Rich City v Bears - using my heart more than my head but we are starting to show some signs and have a good record against the bears over the last few years.

Well it goes without saying that this is a massive weekend for cricket. I hope everyone had a good New Years and is ready for the second half of the season. I believe that the first game after Christmas favours the batting sides as it usually takes the bowlers a week or so to get their lies back on track so my tips will reflect this. Good Luck everyone.

Glen Iris v Hawthorn : Massive game here but think that GI's batting will get them across the line at home
Marcellin vs East Donny : ED to take the points
Ashy v Mulgrave : Don't think Mulgrave's batting is good enough especially at Ashy
St Kevins v Mont Albert : Another big game but think St Kev's batting is flying at the moment
Bulleen v Boronia : Porter gets going, bulleen win
Rich v Deep : Deepdene must win to stay in the hunt

Glen Iris v Hawthorn - Will be close but a rampant GI will be too good at home
Marcellin v East Doncaster - This will be a very close game but ED just.
Ashburton v Mulgrave - Years ago this match would of been match of the season. Ashy way too good. Mulgrave lose this they will be in a relegation fight
St Kevins v Mont Albert - Yes MA are not as good at the shorter form but they are starting to hit their straps
Bulleen v Boronia - Bulleen way too good
Rich City v Deepdene - Deepdene to bounce back on behalf of a under performing city side
