Eca 2011/2012

Deepdene v Hawthorn : Deepdene easily - will send a scare through the Hawthorn camp, especially after GI already have 6 in the bag on day one!
Marcellin v St Kevins : Skevs to make 300+ batting first and win easy
Ashburton vs Bulleen : Good game, especially after recent meetings between these 2, quite recent rivarly
MA v Boronia : MA easily, unfortunately have just left their run a little late
East Doncaster v Mulgrave : agree with HBF - nothing to play for here - but spider to take 6 against a fragile ED batting line up
Richmond V Glen Iris : GI to get 10 points (can there be a bonus point for picking an outright?make the tipping interesting!)
You can have 2 points if you tip an outright and it happens but zero if they just win with no outright.

Ha ha.....no smoking here. Just throwing out a wobbly as history says end of season can be full of surprises....

I expect GI to dominate, but reckon they have a soft underbelly. Their bats have shown more since Xmas but relied on Armstrong for first half. When acid applied they lose wickets in bunches, and its hard to win games that way.

Point taken. And a good point at that. Couple of new topics to open up:

Anyone think Marcellin can avoid relegation from here? It would take them to win at least one out of 2, and bulleen to lose both. I don't think they can, but if both sides lose this week it could make bulleen VERY nervous in the last round!

Who are the finals guns or blokes looking in really good form coming into finals? After being a bit light on earlier in the year, Fernon looks to be really priming himself for a big finals series. Tongue as been pretty consistent all year and the pressure will be right on him to carry his side to and through the finals. Parsons likewise.

You must be a MA player Bob. I wa in the 2's when my team played them, so haven't seen him. I agree though, that 30+ wickets is a great year by any standards. I can't remember many players getting more than that in Dunstan, however I think that Davidson got around 30 last year.
30 wickets is a good year not a great year. At least a couple of blokes get 30 wickets most years. Lilley still has 2 games to go. 40 wickets is a great year.

Interesting Topic HBT....cos it does make me think. Sides that are reliant on 'guns' are clearly exposed. Its great these blokes perform so well in regular season but its all for nothing if not done at the business end (lets be frank) and the great thing about this game is anything can and often does happen. Im thinking HAW/Tongue DEEP/Parsons GI/Armstrong.....i know 'guns' win games but if i was setting a side up, id prefer an even contribution from 'less talented' blokes than a reliance on a gun or 2. Lot of pressure on these to do it when it counts and its not always in their power to do so (umpiring decisions)

You can't win finals without guns though. Can anyone name the last team to win a GF that didn't have a star in its team? ED won with Pete Thommo who was a great player, but was he a 'star'?

Who has won recently? Ashy last year, but before that I can't remember. Mully x 5, MA x 1, ED x 1 - did Ashy win another one?

That is a great effort, but at the end of that season, what did they walk away with? A loss in the semi because their keeper dropped one of the biggest sodas I have ever seen in cricket, was great!
I'm sure any Hawthorn supporter would have enjoyed that. I myself enjoyed watching Hawthorn grass a hat full of chances on an even bigger stage at the Dunstan grand final. The old karma bus claimed quite a few victims that day.

Seems like a bit of bad blood still exists between Hawthorn and the Bears. Should be interesting this week!

Really? I didn't get to the day Hawthorn were fielding so yes, it seems the karma bus ran right through them!

Ashy won last year with Cox making 106, they also won another earlier with Roach making 120*. Mont Albert won with Wrighty making 93*. I think ED won with a good all round team, but the other 3 are certainly "gun"

Oothers can get you there, but thats what you "pay" "guns" for, to win you flags.

30 wickets is a great year. You play 11 games and average just below 3 wickets per game. Pretty decent effort IMO, but Lilley should get a few more wickets yet still. Will win the dunstan medal.

Who else is a strong chance of winning the dunstan medal this year?

I can't see Tongue getting beaten, at this stage, purely going on stats, he has 5 BOG out of 9 games, and should chalk up 600+ runs.

Armstrong has possibly had 2 or 3, maybe 4 at best?

Parsons has probably only had 2 or 3.

Lilley's only issue is that his 5fas have been against Ashburton, where Baker made 106, and against St Kevins, when they were bowled out for 84. But his average & economy are outstanding

Left field, what about Cox? certainly has 3 BOG and 400 runs so far, should finish with 500+

My smokey is Suckling

Toungey might have 5 BOG but you dont know what the umpires are thinking. But he does get noticed

Lilley has a couple of 5fas which will get him votes but will pick a few 1's and 2's votes where he has taken 2-3fas and made runs at times

Parsons has 2 tons and will pick up at least 5, Gartner might pinch the 3 from Bulleen match where he took 6. But he always gets them

Cox very left field, would call him the smokey though. Suckling hasn't made enough runs

What happened in the RC vs. GI game?

Bulleen must be VERY nervous now! 3/10 chasing a decent score against Ashy and Marcellin racking up 281 against skevs. Marc could shove Bulleen down into relegation zone with only one game to play!

Skevs now with an unexpected speed bump to make the finals.

Haw/Deep resuming next week will be intense (31 runs to win, 4 wickets in hand).

In the RC/GI game some water got through the covers onto the area around popping crease. Umpires determined unsafe for bowlers to play, so a 1 dayer next week.
