Re: England in New Zealand

Mills strikes again! It was an iffy decision but not playing a shot didn't work out in Pietersen's favour. England are in big trouble.

Re: England in New Zealand

Man England are getting taken to the cleaners . There was a possible victory on the cards but the NZ bowlers were just to good, 5 for Mills so far

Re: England in New Zealand

england were very very poor in the match. new zealands fortunes have turned since englands tour started. they were losing everything before that but they won the odi series and now totally outplayed england in this test.
england need to do a lot of thinking.

Re: England in New Zealand

Sorry that was 4 for Mills, must have misread something ::). But good on New Zealand, particularly Ross Taylor, great ton, well deserved because it was a long time coming.

Re: England in New Zealand

England have finally dropped Harmison and replaced him with Broad. The bigger shock is that they have brought in Anderson for Hoggard, which I don't think would have have foreseen.

Re: England in New Zealand

harmision shouldnt have played in the first game. his career is probably over now. i dont think he can perform as well as he did 2-3 years ago.

Re: England in New Zealand

He still has the raw talent to perform at test level but I think he's lost it mentally. The first ball of the last Ashes series was probably the watershed moment for him.

Hoggard will be back, I have no doubt about that; he has about 2 maybe 3 years left in him.

Re: England in New Zealand

Harmison out YES, Hoggard NO. Strauss should have gone and Shah come in.

What;s worse is the standard of wicket, lets hope it's better than the first test. I'm sure the ECB will finally wake up and prepare home test wickets to suit England as other nations do.

Re: England in New Zealand

Hoggard shouldn't have been out but he'll be back, no doubt about that. Strauss for Shah is an interesting one, but I'd go along the Shah route, with Bell at 3.

Re: England in New Zealand

Harmison is a lost cause, hes lost most of the backing that he had. A quarter of million pounds per year to bowl crap. I can do the same for a fifth of that and i wouldn't moan about being away from home either.

Let's see what new depths we can sink to in this test! :cry

Re: England in New Zealand

Ready for me to jinx it!

A steady start for England, which is just what they needed. If we can put on a 100 plus for the first wicket, it should mean that the rest of the side can take some confidence from it.

Re: England in New Zealand

And you did :D.

But good comeback by Collingwood and the young man, Ambrose. Things are looking good for him at the moment, but sadly the same thing happened to the previous keeper, a very good debut series with the bat but things falling apart after that. Hopefully for Ambrose and England he can consistently perform and the England selectors show a little patience with him

Re: England in New Zealand

Yeah Ambrose seems like a good batsman. Got a fifty in the first test and might get his maiden 100 in this game. For Englands sake I hope he has more success than Prior.

Re: England in New Zealand

This hasn't been England's morning so far. Looks like they might get all out for 320-330.

Re: England in New Zealand

I've trying not post as any time I do we collapse.

Well done for Ambrose on reaching his maiden test ton but we could have done with him reaching 130 odd. Just shows how much difference a day makes.

Re: England in New Zealand

Jeez, you just can't help jinxing people! :D I'd get that checked out if I were you, could end up being very dangerous

NZ collapsed, but what form Daniel Vettori is in. Unbelievable for a bowler. And good on Ross Taylor for getting a 50 but he needed to carry on.

Yeah, Vettori has become more of a bowling all rounder these days. Statistically, he has been New Zealand's best Test batsman since 2006.

Jimmy Anderson returned back to the team in style. His 5 wicket haul has put England in a very comfortable position. They'll find it hard to lose from this position.

Re: England in New Zealand

They have a good lead to take into the 2nd innings and a bit of time to bat New Zealand out of the game. I'd like to see them set New Zealand a chase of 450+ with 4 - 5 sessions in which to get the wickets.
