Re: England in New Zealand

England in a strong position but you have to ask, what was Anderson doing playing football in the middle of a test match?

I hope he's fit otherwise England will be in for two hard days.

Re: England in New Zealand

Centuries seem to be a problem at the moment, but this certainly does look like more of a bowler's wicket. With Anderson England should be ok, without him it's harder to see.

Re: England in New Zealand

they seem desparate to throw the game away again, how many catches were dropped!

i think they will win but they never make look easy do they

Re: England in New Zealand

A few catches were put down but that's England all over. They just can't seem to get all 3 elements working at the same time. If they bat and field well the bowling will go to bits, if they bowl and bat well then the fielding breaks down etc.

The biggest worry is how much pressure will be heaped on Ambrose for the dropped chance and fluffed stumping. Give the guy a chance to settle in and get used to the bowlers - at least 2 series before jumping down his throat. Aggers already seems keen to reopen the keeping debate.

Re: England in New Zealand

they should give him a break. he was flawless in the first test. but the criticism is bound to happen since the last two keepers have turned out to be similar.

Re: England in New Zealand

How do people rate England's chances in the final test??

Personally, I can see England winning it after some attritional batting.

Apparently it is going to be a flat deck, so I'm thinking a draw.

Re: England in New Zealand

Have heard that it's going to be flat so England need to think hard here.

Do they go for it and try to include bowlers who may find something in the pitch (I'm thinking Harmison and Broad) or play it safe?

Re: England in New Zealand

Never ever Harmison if we're trying to win!!

They will play the same team. Despite Anderson's 5 wicket haul in the 1st innings in Wellington, Hoggard should have played and I fear that we'll see why in not so helpful conditions - Anderson could be treated with disdain like he was in the ODIs.

On a good wicket I hope the likes of Vaughan and Pietersen can get in and play long fluent innings so that there's time to put the pressure on NZ and take 20 wickets, with Panesar being the key man.

Re: England in New Zealand

I agree with your sentiments about Harmison to be honest (I think he's spent as a true international force) but seeing as he is out there then he has to be considered.

As you said, can't see them changing a winning side but then again stranger things have happened. One of the top 6 has to kick on and turn a start into a 120 plus score.

Re: England in New Zealand

Looks like Oram has been ruled out of the final test with a hip problem, that will help England and probably mean that Southee will get to make his test debut.

He looks a handy bowler and I'll be keen to see how he handles it.

Re: England in New Zealand

Southee is coming in for Mills and Grant, the all-rounder is replacing Oram. Jeetan Patel is being called up in the place of Mark Gillespe (sp?). This Southee fella looks to be a good find. Amazing at the U19's World Cup, should be interesting to see how he performs in the big time.

Re: England in New Zealand

Not an ideal start for England by any means!!! The bowlers are really going to have to come up with something special on this pitch from here - nice to see Broad going well with the bat though. But it does make you wonder, if he can get runs on this nice flat pitch - what's gone wrong with the top order?

I was listening to it on the radio - so I haven't seen any of the dismissals yet. But from the sounds of it apart from Vaughan they were all pretty much unforced errors by the batsmen?

Re: England in New Zealand

Looks like Southee had a great debut. Imagine what the score would have been if Pietersen didnt score a ton. At this stage I think England would be happy with 300 but that looks unlikely.

Re: England in New Zealand

wow fleming is on fire he wants to go out in style in his last test. new zealand are taking the attack to england. the last ten overs have gone over 6.

Re: England in New Zealand

Its been quite a remarkable comeback by England. When Fleming and How were going strong 253 looked like a sub par score. Now it looks like they might get a 100 run lead.

Re: England in New Zealand

Another dismal batting performance in this test. Poor Southee was all at sea as England started to pepper him with short stuff - he'll need to sort that out if he wants to bat at 9.
