YYYYeeeeehaaaaaa!!!! the wallabies got up. Yes its true, wallington have finally broken the drought. We rolled the almighty GWSC cheetahs for a poultry 104. all bowlers bowled well, we are honestly a much improved side when we have all available. need to go an and make it happen more often though before we can expect our opposition to show us any respect, hopefully we can do that in the next few rounds. got a few very winnable games coming up before xmas. whats our odds now warney, we must have shortened up a bit. glad i got us at 500/1 for me dollar.

NORTH GEELONG vs GEELONG CITY
City won the toss and elected to bat on a deck that was really very easy to bat on early. Pitts and Chapman got off to a great start, working away Scown and Armistead who bowled tight but without luck. The score reached 65 when the City players started cheering Pitts for his half century which seemed to scare Chapman as he played a stupid shot to get some runs and was bowled by Millard. Pitts didn't hang around much longer being caught by Millard off the bowling of Shane Lymer. Lindsay and Down set about builidng there own partnership, but just as he was starting to look as though he was going to tear the North attack apart, Lindsay was caught in front of his stumps, lbw to Kingwell. With the overs running down, City, after looking so promising at 2-130, needed quick runs to set a big total, and thus wickets were falling after every 10 or so runs. After there 85 overs, City closed on 8-215 which was a good total but really should have been a lot more after such a good stage was set. Pitts top scored with 56, Down 41, Lindsay 30 and Meagher 25. Millard was the pick of the bowlers with another 4 wicket haul 4-47, Lymer 2-38 and Shaun Kingwell, 16 years old took 1-13 off 12 overs.

After a delay of half an hour due to the rain, North went out to bat and were on the ropes from the second ball of the day. Tielens stuck out his bat and got an edge through to the keeper off Marsland and made a golden duck after Sam Hall took a leg bye off the first ball of the day. Col Millard and Hall batted very well in a 56 run partnership before Millard hesitated and then slipped and was then run out for 34. Armistead came out and played a stupid shot an over before break and was caught on the fence, and North went into the break in an ok position at 3-78 with 55 overs remaining. Sam Hall and Alf Clark continued to bat well before Sam missed a full toss off the spinner and was caught lbw for 58. With the match in the balance based on this partnership, Shane Lymer stepped up and batted very well with Clark in a 67 run partnership before being bowled by Lindsay for 28. Clark batted til the end and pulled up stumps with ten overs to go, at 6-218. Clark top scored with 79 not out. Meagher had the best figures with 2-43 for City.

Match Report: Thomson Vs Corio

Stand-in skipper O'Neill won the toss and elected to bowl at Godfrey St Oval last saturday.

Corio Captain/Coach Sean Arnott (8) opened up with Jarrod Brown (21). The first 12 overs were uneventful with Thomson openers Dean Riches (2-61) and Kim Petterwood (1-47) bowling nice lines and extremely tight to some agressive fields.

The introduction of veteran Adrian Saltalamacchia (2-51) into the attack worked wonders with the immediate removal of Devils gun Arnott, holing out to mid-on. Brown looked comfortable and was happy to leave anything not directed at the stumps. Petterwood trapped Jon Rhodes in front first ball to have Corio at 2-31 off 20 overs. Chris Laurie (12) in only his second game for the year made 12 before being the second of the veteran's 2 wickets. Brown looked good until also getting trapped in front of a Filthy Phil Featherston (1-45) outswinger. This bought Jed Potter (41) and Ben Strachan (85) who combined for a 120 run partnership which bought life back into the Corio innings. Super Vet Stevie Dahlhaus bowled the last over before tea on the proviso; get a wicket bowl all afternoon, it was a good maiden however. Strachan rode his luck to get to 85 but played some nice shots along the way, this partnership was helped by Thomson's inability to hold a catch, period.

When Riches came back and removed both Strachan and Potter within the space of 3 overs the damage had already been done, with Corio 6-196 and in the search for quick runs Matt "Pot" Plant (1-18) was introduced for the first time this season. His 5 overs of pure genious kept the Corio batsmen at bay and threw his hat in the ring for a permanent bowling role in the side.

Terry Shelly (20*) and Brad Brown (21*) cashed in at the end and Corio finished up with a healthy total of 7-237 off 85 overs.

Thomson's ground held up well to Friday's rain but the same cannot be said for the wicket. Holes in the covers led to wet patches the size of buckets up and down the track, both captains and the umpire agreeed that play was to be abandoned before it started on the second day.

Match Drawn.

Corio probably feel unlucky as 240 is generally hard to chase down but at the same time Thomson could also feel unlucky as they were confident of being able to knock off the required runs.

The tigers are looking forward to an enthralling encounter next week against Steve Illingworth's St Peters.

We need to win to stay in touch with the top 6.

I would assume Clay Nelson would resume for St Peter's from suspension.

Obviously Stephen Illingworth is the marque player for St Peter's, only him and C.Nelson have scored above 20 in the first innings this season. We will apply pressure to the other players and limit there strokeplay.

Bowling wise, Illingworth is the man to keep at bay, i think we can counter-attack this with positive strokeplay and aggresive cricket, to try and throw him off his line, not many teams take it up to him but i think this is the best way to over-ride his wicket taking abilities. Gavin Nelson likes to tie an end up and we will look to work him around. Holbrook and Guthridge are steady but have so far struggled to take wickets. Clarke has good statistics from the 2's but hasn't proven himself in the 1's this season.

For us; Adrian Salta is due for a big score and will like batting at Thommy on a flat deck, Smelly has been in scintillating form which hopefully will continue. Strods and the Pom to provide an early benchmark then Smell, Salta, myself and Pop to get us to a competitve total if we bat first.

Richo has been in fine form with the ball and a big wicket haul isn't to far around the corner, him and Kimbo Petterwood have kept teams quiet early doors and this should be no different.

I think we have the cattle to produce a win - keep Illingworth quiet and it will go along way to ensuring victory, it will be a good yardstick to see where we at in the lead up to the Christmas Break. It's basically a 12 point game with both teams looking to consolidate ladder position heading into the second half of the year.

Match review- in a match where both sides need to win to set themselves up in a middle of the road position before the break, both sides will be going into the match seemingly underdone. Alf Clark will be missing for the wagpies as will Danny Hughes for the cats. The match will seemingly be won or lost with the bat, with Lara focusing on Bambury making a lot of runs, whereas the wags have Hall, Millard and Lymer in good form. Jason Hughes will be required to take early wickets, as well Brad Scown who is coming off a quiet game against Geelong City last week.

PLAYERS TO WATCH
Brad Scown (North Geelong)- Expect Scown to rip through the inexperienced Lara batting lineup, and possibly take the big wicket of Bambury. Hopefully he can also get off his hat trick of ducks this game.

C(insert name here) Bambury (Lara)- Bambury is in prime form out of all the batsman in the GCA and would smile too himself seeing this inexperienced North Geelong bowling line up.

TIP- North Geelong to win with Scown dominating with the ball. Those who wonder where the intensity is coming from, ask Mark Browning

Newcomb on the other hand will be really disappionted with 3 games this year being within 20 odd runs and falling on the wrong side of the total. Good signs for Newcomb + District being that Damian Koliba has put some runs on the board, but also see's Simon Anderson failing again. For the Dino's to win Simon Anderson and Damian Koliba have to get the bulk of the runs and Clinton Ford to be on his merry way with the ball.

Geelong Citys Captain Scott Lindsay has been rather quiet apart from last week and his expeirence should stand up against the Dino's. Also Adam Pitts always makes runs against the Dino's and the dino's will look for Clinton Ford or Adam Lucas to break through early.

Newcomb + District will look really hard at there batting line up and with Simon Anderson taking back the opening position it should see Damian Koliba and him put alot of pressure on the City bowling attack and put a sizeable toal on the board.
Prediction:

TIP - Newcomb should sneak through in a tight tussle but it will all depend on the top order. 250 at City should be target to aim towards and if it is round that total then City may find it difficult against the sneakiness of Clinton Ford and the likes.

big test this week for the bears coming up against former gca1 side manifold. obviously this game could turn ugly or the bears could suprise a few people and put up a decent fight(and before bubble brains like meat pies and ants14 pipe up with moronic dribble i dont mean they'll beat manifold just that they could fight it out and not get embarrased) condy looks to be in some decent form with the willow and if blokes like McCormack and zimmer get going marshall could be chasing a total of john holmes porportions! Trent leslie has been marshalls best performed player all year and hopefully will continue that form 2moro with some help from levi cameron and williams. Id say manifold will get the points fairly comfortably but wouldn't be suprised if marshall avoid an outright result.

Riss, a comprehensive analysis. A couple of points; C Nelson and DeBeer back this week. G Nelson made 44 last game. Holbrook took 8 wickets for the game against Corio. The ladder at present doesn't include St Peters percentage from Corio game which actually puts the Saints on top. Having said that, i think they are playing slightly above expectation with 6 players from last season's semi-final side no longer playing; Lamb (retired), Gaylard (retired), Calnon (retired), Harvey (not playing), Flanders (injured), Plummer (2nds). Playing well but more players need to stand up with the bat. T Hester made over 300 last year but hasn't had a good run at it yet; likewise G Nelson. Despite Illingworth being a big wicket taker, he has had some good help. This should be a terrific game. Best of luck to both sides. I will be there watching.
