no spot for smiljanic or fergusson? (if reports are true that he's signed at corio)

Could be. Pick two batsman from my list that you would drop to make way for them.

thats the hard part! for me id have smiljanic in 4 koliba who's struggled over last 2 years
and id say maybe alf clarke for fergusson.
tough one tho, thats just my opinion ! good work for the majority of it, can't fault the bowling line up

Prob half agree with you. Koliba, for a guy who has played Vic 2nd XI cricket has been a very big disappointment since coming back to GCA. Alf Clark however for sheer consistency and reliability gets my nod. The guy is well into his 40s and still winning league batting averages in arguably the best country cricket comp in the state. Would have gone away with the Country Week side last season but for work committments.

yeah he's an all time great of vic country cricket. theres no right or wrong i wouldn't think. it would have to be on form at the time.
wouldn't wana be a selector if all were available and in form!

Also how would this side go against Geelong C.C?

Blair Allen not playing GCA from my sources. Either is Dan Lowery. (Speaking of Joeys how many are going... Foster? Pat Lowery (geelong)? Loftus (West)?
get rid of Harper, Stacey and Fanning. (no future in playing these guys, and do not think they are in the best 11 going around)
get in Marsland, Tsitas and Baars. still a couple of spots up for grabs if my sources are correct.
Would look at Danny Hughes but becoming a cop may screw up his season
Fergusson is a walk up start if playing.
Zanoni performed last year and should walk into the squad again.

The best thing that ever happened to Foster was Jason Murray punching him up at Lamby's!

Damien Foster?? Classy bat though. Definitely one of the top few that I have seen in GCA.

T20 tournament in Geelong

what is everyone's views on a T20 tournament in Geelong, and also which grounds would be the best place to host such an event. I reckon you have to go with turf grounds, but which ones are made for a T20 comp ??

great idea, i recken include all teams in geelong, but mayb seed the top 6 gca div1 teams from last year.
best grounds would be: st joeys, thomson, newtown, geel west, east belmont and leopold.
they would be my pick for the final stages, and early on if a hard wicket team is drawn a turf team its played on turf.
if 2 hard wicket clubs draw each other they can play on hard deck.
The final could even b played under lights on a fri or sat night leeding in2 the xmas break. thats my thoughts anyone else?

Joeys would be a great place for Twenty20 cricket I think. Short straight, quick outfield and a belter of a wicket.
But you want to reward the clubs that supply the entertainment rather than those that have members on the grounds or management committee.

Godfrey St welcomes the idea of a t20 competition, we are planning with st albans in forming some sort of league at the moment.
Great Idea :D

you have no idea get out and watch some other cricket besides div2 i seen bosworth bowl med pace at best.
zanoni good bowler but wouldn't be anywhere near the pace of: Anderton, Harper, Murray or Marsland.

played against or with all of them.

Anderton bowled rapid one day down at spring creek, had the torquay batsmen well and truely sh*tting themselves. then harper, bosworth, murray, marsland, zanoni in that order.

would have justin miller in between harper and bosworth but i realise he is at GCC now so doesn't apply to this convo.
Also quick from East Belmont still has a great bouncer.

Bosworth hasn't been fully fit since he has been in geelong but still can send it down, and apparantly used to bowl rapid when in mildy/sydney on there hard decks.

And bringbackwarney: we're aware alex cetkovic isn't/never was rapid!!

Charlie Lamb at St Peters was very quick on his day.

The squad I selected was just current players at their peak.

Why are Foster & Lowery leaving St Joeys?

There are quiet a few spots up for grabs as something like 30 players declined to go last season through work or other committments but hopefully with an undermanned team's great performance and a bit of feel-good hype around Geelong about the tournament, their will be renewed interest this coming season.

Rhys Zanoni started well but got injured towards the end of the week.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Why the hell would you put Blair Allen in the Geelong Country Week team?
Fergie can't play as he doesn't play GCA. They wont allow him. Went through that last season. Danny Hughes, although he is a weed, he should be in the best team in the comp.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

People thoughts on theses in the GCA 1 league?
best batsman - Gary Kelson from Grovedale
best bowler - Brad Hauenstein from Sth Barwon
best wicketkeepr - ????
best all rounder - Brad Hauenstein from Sth Barwon

Yes, good call on each. As much as I hate to say it, Bambury would be very close to best batsman.
Not a hell of alot of keepers going around though. For experience you would look at Breuer from Sth Barwon.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Talla from West is also great to watch bat!
Trav Agg was the best bowler (smartest at least), but he is no longer playing for City.

Lost all respect for Bambury when he let Tsitas dictate to him in the final v Grovedale. I think Tsitas had 30 odd over for 40. Disgusting.

I would not think Brad would be the best bowler in the league. Cannot see him being the man to rip through batting line ups. Tsitas, Quick, Marsland, Anderton, are all more capable of ripping batting line ups apart.

Keeper... for pure glove work, you do not see Breuer make mistakes. Rate Anderson pretty highly as well. Kelson is steady, and keeps well to Tsitas. Best bat of the lot.
