Way to take what I said to the extreme edge of silliness.

Like I said, play hard on the pitch, have a few verbals here and there but there is a limit. Once that is crossed it tends to make the game a little crap, full of ill feeling and hostility - do you really want to play in that atmosphere?

Been there, done that and got the t-shirt. Teams coming to blows on the pitch, stump waving, fists flying and the rest.

Then again, different county, different culture.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

You could be right :mad::)

Your club cricket is played at a higher intensity than a lot of club cricket over here, no question about it. Standards? Top levels are similar (ish) but the depth of player numbers certainly is lower over here. You probably have 2 or 3 times the numbers.

Then again, you guys play a (to me anyway) a funny system. It's a mix of one day, 20/20 and 2 day games that count towards the final standings? (Am I correct?).

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

No 20/20 in our standard season...yet!!! Just a mixture of 2 day and 1 day games. 20/20 is nowhere near as big over here yet, so at the moment they are running seperate 20/20 comps that don't count towards the normal season. There may be some leagues around Australia that incorporate 20/20 into their normal season but none in Geelong.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I would love our leagues to follow the 2 day system, better then the simple 50 over stuff we get stuck with.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Yeah it's ok, but it brings things like the weather into it! especially with 7 days between innnings.

Mate, If we had lost we would of said well played you were better than us today! We always thought it was going to be tough to win with the amount of runs we made and how hard we fought to get to our measly total of 160. To get a win with that score on a quick, small ground was a great effort by the boys.

and by the way it is A grade cricket, yeah it's BPCA but it's still A grade, and there are teams who sledge and carry on a lot worse then us, but you know what it's only as bad as you let it be!!!

That is what makes cricket such a good game, that what happens on the field stays on the field, and you can enjoy a beer and a laugh once it's all done, but when a club refuses to stay and have a beer thats pretty poor, when newcomb were up and going a year or two ago they were THE worst at the verbal stuff......But I will take your advice on board and I might take some flowers and give them to the Ocean grove opening batsman next week,......right before he gets his middle peg knocked out of the ground, and gets the biggest send off in history, coz they gave it to us in the semi last year!!! Big time!!!! But we still had a beer and a laugh with them after the game.

vetran vetran vetran, settle down mate. Keep the hostility for the grubbers, they are smartarses when they goin well. but you st albans boys probably take the cake when it comes to sledging while winning or losing. But at least ya cool about it off the ground which is it how it should be. and dont let that floppy mess gills call for a runner either, ya dont get a runner for being obese, aged and grumpy.

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

New site rules/guidelines are coming very shortly. Don't worry they won't be vastly different to what is in place at the moment, but they will give us and you something to refer back to.

For the time being all I ask is that you try to respect other members, treat people as you'd like to be treated and tone down some of the language. We'll tolerate a 'shit' or 'piss' here and there but it all depends on the context of it's use.

As for Becko, well, lets just say that he wasn't everything he seemed and he asked to be removed.

it's always dissapointing.. say for example us at the moment, or south barwon.. to have 350 + on the board, then the next week it pisses down rain and you get a draw.

It would be the novelty factor for me, well, in the first instance. After that, who knows, it might get old, it might stay interesting.

There have been murmurings about adopting the 2 day system over the years but nothing has ever come of it, and it's doubtful that it will.

the 2 day games are ok, when played saturday sunday. but when playing saturday saturday, i'd rather just play all one dayers.

Then again, you guys play a (to me anyway) a funny system. It's a mix of one day, 20/20 and 2 day games that count towards the final standings? (Am I correct?).

Top levels aren't that similar, VCA 1st XI is a huge step ahead of any top leagues i saw around counties. Also our State XI's are also higher in standard than your county league. This is mainly due to the English County system having 18 teams and 2 overseas players per 1st XI then on top of that Kolpak players. I think it was in last season's 20/20 finals day, one team had only 2 english-born players in the 11.

As for a "funny system" the league i played in England had a pretty weird points system and this is how it worked.

One-day 100 over match.
Team batting first has option of batting 55 overs.
Bonus points for batting at the 45 over mark: -
100 runs - 1 points
120 runs - 2 points
140 runs - 3 points
160 runs - 4 points
180 runs - 5 points
But if you batted past 50 overs your bonus batting points were lost (eg: 167/2 after 45 overs, bat to 50 overs - 4 points, bat to 55 overs - 0 points).
The team batting first had their batting points doubled (eg: 167/2 after 45 overs - 4 points (x2) = 8 points)
For every odd-wicket you get a point.
1 wicket - 1 point
3 wickets - 2 points
5 wickets - 3 points
7 wickets - 4 points
9 wickets - 5 points
But this is where it gets complicated, the team batting second must be bowled out completely (eg:10 wickets) for the team batting first to get win points. If the team batting 2nd doesn't get bowled out it's declared a drawn match (eg: both teams get a further 2 points, on top of their batting/bowling points)

For example: St Josephs vs Lara Round 2 http://mycricket.cricket.com.au/com...loc=/cricket/reports/match.asp&matchID=494001

Geelong West batted first were over 180 at the 45 over mark (10 points)
Lara got 9 wickets (5 points)

Lara batted second and were over 180 at the 45 over mark (5 points)
Geelong West got 6 wickets (3 points)

Lara chased down Geelong West's score therefore get 20 points for the win, plus they get their batting points (5). Total points: Lara 25, West 13

A hypothetical if Lara finished at 6-220 off their 50 overs.

The batting and bowling points would be the same but because Lara couldn't chase down West's total and West couldn't bowl Lara out the match is declared a draw, 2 points each.
Therefore the points would read: Lara (12), West (13)

When you played against a weaker team often they would just shut-up shop from over 1 and bat for the draw, making for the boringest 50 overs and 3 hours of your life.

I think the best format would be if we played English style (100 one-day match) with Australian points (6 win, 3 tie, loss).

Division 1 "Powerhouse" South Barwon are extremly cockey in not only winning the 20/20 competition, but also beating Division 3 "Rabble" Guild-St.Mary's.

Quotes from the South Barwon Coach
1) "I will retire if we loose to them"
2) "Hester bowls wrongen's, Blyth will pretend he is Matt Hayden, and Ando will raise his bat grip when he is going to hit sixes"

However after thinking about the comments and the "slim" chance the Powerhouse has of loosing he followed with this

3) "20/20 is a game of chance. All cricketers should be respected, except Justin Larkins"

A little change of tune, prehaps running scared

Drunk, hung over or stooned, Guilders have...

NOTHING TO LOOSE

I was heading home around 3pm but then all of a sudden found myself still drinking with half a dozen blokes outside the locked-up clubrooms at 7:30pm and the wife coming to pick me up. Needless to say very dusty at work the next day. I reckon it was one of the best raffle days we've had. Quite a good cross-section of clubs around the comp represented on the day and no doubt our club would be very appreciative of that. What about yourself?
