Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

WHO IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PLAYER TO ANY ONE TEAM IN GEELONG?

This doesn't have to be the best player, just the most important to there team.....

i would have to say brad haurnstein he's done the bulk of the run scoring for many years at south barwon, if he gets a score they win 9/10 times.

feel free to suggest others.

Brad Haurnstein for me like you said gets most there runs and takes alot of the wickets south would struggle a bit without hornet class player@|

That St Albans team really struggled with the spin of Schaller last year, maybe with him gone they will get back on track to win a flag. Was he the best player in the comp? looked good from the outside!

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

That Michell, most talented player i have seen of his age around Geelong for a while, small in stature but his bowling is underated, as well as his wicketkeeping....im sure if he puts his mind to it can acheive big things, not worth it if he goes to Heads, there strong enough anywaym, they will be GCA soon.....Imagine...Herbison x2, Schaller, Michell, Nunn (possibly) lots of young talent, all had a taste of VCA cricket.....

Up until this year I would have to say Talarico.
Brad would be very very close 2nd.
But, I think 5 players made over 300+ runs at South last year.

he's got one of the best wrongun's ive seen, he will learn alot down at geelong.

yeah they sure have got alot of young talent, like i've said in previous posts herbission should be batting in the top 4 in a GCA div1 club, not sure if any clubs chased him, mad if they didn't.

Yeah i remember watching the QF at st albans, after winning the u/17 grand final that day (captaining) i think he took 4 fa 30 and made 85 if i remember correctly. and then backed it up with 20 overs in 37 degree heat and took matchwinning 7 fa 70 or something. must be good, Murray said he was unplayable, has the wood over Rob Cutajar.....apprantly, still wants to be invovled with Heads. Imagine the pulling power he could get when he comes back to heads!! they will be unstoppable!

yeah he sure was, he took 7/70 and he started badly might of had 0/20 i think off he's first few, just shows he can bounce back alot of kids drop there head when they start bad.

i will say that wicket down there that day was full of dust and dirt and turned square. i think most batsman will be happy to see him gone, it will make barwon heads bowling a bit light on this year though could be a close season.

i hear a few of the usual top clubs will really struggle.
port and ocean grove struggling from reports

Yeah, they might struggle without him this year.
Yeah port and grove especially, as they are a old ageing team, not much going for them...think it will be the usuals this year....Heads, St Albans, Collendina, QCliff.....watch out for Wallington.....might surprise a few.....wonder which Drysdale will turn up this year? loss of Mallet will hurt alot....St Albans bowling attack is very strong!

yeah port have lost vassilou to west apparently, ocean grove have had gills, long and hardiman retire as well as braniff apprently left also.

who have wallington picked up? biemens? anyone else?

bowling is a real strong point of ours just need a few batsman to stand up, have been below par with the exception of bennett and murray, o'leary will help in that area though class bat.

who knows with drysdale they never really seem intrested, thats just the way they come across sometimes. do you know who's coaching them?

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

I heard a BPCA rumour that young Luke "Sachin" Michell is heading back to Barwon Heads after a season at Geelong.
Anyone else heard anything?

Yeah, i dunno about drysdale not Sharpe still ? Yeah ST.AB batsmen last year went missing when it mattered most....Murray will be a standout this year, short odds for the leauge medal i reckon, him and biddiscombe, after quitting football, rumor is his been working overtime on his cricket! scary though, great competitor. Theres going to be some massive contests this year...If collendina keep all there players they will be tough to beat, especially on that wicket!

Intersting to see how this kid goes on the turf. I have seen many a player that can get the ball to turn miles on the hard wickets, and not move an inch on the grass. Cam Ross was one from a few years ago that was the perfect example. Maybe watch this space to see how his Geelong trial goes.

collendina will have jimmy bartel for part of the season till footy takes over

so what do we all think of the chances of getting a full GCA season in this year??? the water reserves are lower than they were 2yrs ago before the shortened season. so it could be just as bad as that summer. but we have better infrastructure in place now...will it make all the difference or are we still going to lose some of our cricket?

I reckon there are a number of grounds which have the infrastructure in place to go through a full season, so doubt there would be any shortened season. Let's hope we get a bit of rain happening from now until the start of the season, and also with the household restrictions in place now there should be enough water to keep as many of the grounds in Geelong going now.
