don't think it will ever happen as you cannot have a grand final wicket prepared in a week, it is really a month out that a curator needs to know he is having a grand final there to get his best wicket prepared. If it was played on hard wicket, then no problem, it would be able to be moved with a weeks notice. As long as the BEST ground is given the grand final each year then it should not be a problem. Clubs do strive to have the best ground going around and it is good reward for them to be awarded the grand final. I just think if clubs were made aware half way through the season what the leading grounds are then everyone would know at that stage and be able to speak up if they thought things were wrong. Obviously every club is going to think there ground is the best, you just need to make sure that whoever is making these decisions does so on an unbiased basis. I think East Belmont has always been one of the best grounds and last year was still within the top three, but I think by the vote against Graeme at the GCA election showed most wanted change. Not all clubs want to host the grand final, so maybe clubs first have to apply to be considered for a grand final and then we get all clubs to vote on grounds.

Spot on. The grand final should always be played at a ground which has the best conditions, facilities, atmosphere, etc. Clubs should have the opportunity to nominate their ground for the grand final and clubs involved in the finals then decide out of those who should host it. A gf at kardinia park would be fantastic due to a number of factors (conditions, location, etc) but I doubt the league would go for somewhere like this as it denies their ability to 'control' the gf.

My understanding was that the grounds were selected on quality of grounds and wickets throughout the season. At the point the ground was selected there had been half or one game at East. Maybe I am misinformed though.

Why not at Christmas, or 4 week/6 weeks from finals the captain of each turf team (1's and 2's) votes 3,2,1 for which ground/wicket/facilities is the best? Then you have your 6 finals grounds, rated from 1 to 6, voted by the captains.

You should do the same thing for the 3rds and 4ths. How the Grand Final was not played at BPH is beyond me. That ground looked amazing.

G'day seany. Who is this bloke you call Strods?

Chris Strods from Alexander Thomson.
18 year old who batted top order last season but finished off in the middle.
Had limited keeping time at AT but has come across to Thommy as a keeper who will bat somewhere in the middle order.

yeh the petty is the general drinking place for the week. u would see one or more there 6 out of 7 days of the week lol

Re: Geelong Cricket '08/'09(gca/bpca)

Can anybody confirm that Brad Stacey and Darren Kiddle will be departing BPH this season, could be a huge blow for the hill and will struggle if these two weapons leave. Also, are the rumours true that Chris Moreland wont be playing cricket this season?
Is Scowny still the most dominate bowler in the gca. Ive known him for a while and faced up to him in the nets, very sharp but is kicking on.

totally agree there c.p, good fast bowler but not the most dominant. i wouldnt say hes getting on either, still only 27. would have to say harps is still the most dominant and a close 2nd, although not quick is agg

I know about 5 or 6 of our turf squad said after playing at south barwon last year that the wicket and outfield was definately up to grand final standard. And im a bit biased but Joeys is a great venue for cricket. With the small boundaries and the balcony.

The wicket for the finals at South Barwon was awesome. Bounce and pace for the bowlers who bent their backs, but even bounce for the batsman.
Only negative was the run ups at the clubrooms end, where there was sand just at the wrong place. But they definitely deserved to have the grand final over East Belmont.

Yeah run-ups last year where not the best due to being stuffed by the lack of water the previous season. This year will be a different story (as long as we are able to continue the grounds to be watered) so am hoping ground will now be complete.

As of the D Boyd rumour he may have been approached but that kid is staying put. He is a vital part of South and won't be leaving his mates.

And Scowny is a good honest bowler but defiantely not the best in the league. I faced Harps in a grand final a couple of years ago and that spell was as good as ive ever faced. Loftus and Damian Foster said it was top notch VCA class. He did the same thing to us 2 years later in the semi's.
