Re: Geelong Cricket Chat

Well the St Peters' 3rd XI dream is over. 81 in response to AT's 206. 9 dropped catches and beaten by the better side on the day. Three unsuccessful campaigns in a row.

On another note, St Peters u/17s (4th) V Murgheboluc (3rd): Murghe 7/154 off their 55 (21 on Sat). St Peters given 16 overs to make the runs and made 6/125. Everyone knows the rules and you play within them but surely something not right there? 3rd beats 4th in the granny and the lower side has 16 overs to make the same runs when the opposition has 55. Could have been a reserve day or they could have easily played longer today. Not sour grapes by any stretch; still would have been unfair if the shoe was on the other foot.

Yes, a lot of teams (junior and senior) got screwed today thru the weather. I'm happy to see Murghe U17 & U13 junior sides get flags even if it was because they were fortunate enough to finish higher than their opponents, especially the U17s Renny refers to (finished 3rd but played 4th-placed St Peter's in grand final). On the other hand the Murghe U15s who lost only 1 game all year aren't premiers as they played a higher-placed side (who also only lost once). Shit happens.

I know none of you will be sympathetic, but Murghe 1st XI went from 2nd place to missing the semis over the last 2 weekends, without a single ball bowled. After the Torquay wicket fiasco last weekend relegated the team to 4th spot, the entire final at Godfrey Street this weekend was abandoned without any play, and as North Shore got up over Highton, the Frogs are out. Somewhat ironic that North Shore's victory was down at Torquay - that really hurts!

As an insider WITH the knowledge ther is no way known that that pitch was playable(yes i was there)...and to hang around until the stated " 3;30" would have been an utter waste of time as 1/2 the Torquay players were at Murghe before the bus load of Murghe players arrived, BEFORE tea at 3.15!!!!! so how can 1 say it was playable at 3.30 when they are not even there!!!!!and strange how it was the wicket on the highest part of the table with the most moisture!!!!!!oh they got into the finals thou didnt they....what a suprise.

What happened this week frogs? Pitch unplayable again? Must of been the same cloud that hung over Torquay last week you whinging bunch of sooks. All in all a great result for cricket.

Yes unplayable again. Mano not keen to play especially after losing the toss, but when you're 3rd playing 4th, that's your perogative.

By the way it was the Addy doing the phoning last Sunday, not the other way around. Fact. End of.

To be fair, the U17 Division 1 final is always played at winter reserve and was scheduled long before the weather was forecast. Ideally the seniors would have a final 4 instead of this ridiculous final 6 system, which would mean this week would be the last of the regular season and there would be no overlap.

Not on the turf it's not. St Albans lost the U17 div 1 Grand Final to East Belmont last year on the bottom ground.

I do agree however that it should be a final 4

yerr ur right mate.. last year they played on hard wicket.. this year it was decided early that it would be a turf ground that wasnt hosting seniors finals.. yet becoz east were in there they were the first to put there hands up.. and the stoopid gca commitee say yerr why not... in the end have ruined south's season... and well had east of been sitting 4th would the same thing have occured.. i dont think so... thats my opinion anyway

Two things that i heard; at this stage rumour until confirmed.....
i) The kids (u/17s) took an inordinate amount of time to get the covers onto the ground when raining.
ii) they stayed out there playing for an extra 20-30 mins in very heavy drizzle so that Becker Nguyen could get a 100.

Someone please confirm or deny. Either way, i have abosolutely no doubt that all this contributed to a Day 1 senior washout.

Junior game starts at 8:00 on a Saturday morning. The Geelong weather station which is in Grovedale records 1.6mm of rain between 9:30am and 10:00am. Then it records another 2.6mm of rain between 10:00am and 10:30am, and finally until 11:00am another 3.4mm. From what I can see of the junior game on My Cricket Manifold Heights bat first and get bowled out for 56 in 25 overs. 25 overs would roughly take almost until 9:30am, possibly a bit before. Did East Belmont then bat ?? If they did then they may have batted in the game ?? Anyone know the truth ??

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat

Alright back in action again
Firstly- Bad Luck to South and to my V-Money account thingy, you were my tip to win, and it really sucks to see the best team in the comp go out in the first week.
Secondly- I don't know the exact facts but surely heads will roll for this. Under 17 junior coordinator should have a lot of explaining to do.
Thirdly- I actually coached 4 of the Murghebouluc Under 13 boys in Country week, so glad to see them get up and get the victory
Fourthly- Bad luck to both our sides who were both in winning positions, one at 1-79 chasing 206 with fifity overs left, and the other had them at 7-130 with 20 overs left chasing 208, who both ended up losing. Very disappointing end to the year for the club.
Lastly- A FOR EFFORT GET OUT OF MY PAPER

Re: Geelong Cricket Chat

pretty much confirmed that East Belmont did not have a chance to bat in the juniors and it appears that Coggsy might have been igniting rumours by mentioning that Becker was 80 not out and they tried to get him to his century. It appears that this game was a victim of the team finishing higher on the ladder having no reason to want to play because a draw would see them through anyway. MOST teams would be pleased with this. Just seems to make the whole concept of a final worthless when the games go like this and their is no incentive to get a result. A normal home and away game with teams needing to win and both would play.
