Home of Australian Grassroots Cricket

Thats a bummer Cory. Time to try out for two day cricket.

I had a bad game on Saturday but I average 15 at an economy of 5 in colts T20s this year. I’ve bowled way better with the 4 piece on turf than I have with the 2 piece that’s swung too much for me to control.

I might speak to the 3rd XI captain.

Been a bit occupied with the Test. Will take a look soon.

Yeah no problem.

We won. I only bowled 1 over but went for 8 runs so not too upset this time.

Got some silverware.

Will be trying to get a bat in 1 day 5s because I’m feeling really solid and confident with the bat atm

Over on the Christmas thread we give virtual reality gifts.
For Cory: the latest Kookaburra bat and ball to take on the Colts.

Hope you make next years Chrissie Eve party. My best friends let me down this year.

One dayer on Saturday:

Opened the batting, 0(2) LBW because I’ve been trying to bat like someone I’m not.

Bowled 3 balls, last batsman got run out.

Colts T20 today, didn’t bat in the first innings, didn’t bowl in the second innings. Chirped in the field and ran hard to get the drinks onto the field after a wicket while I was having my 4 overs off the field.

Played 3 colts finals so far, haven’t bowled a single over in any of them.

Made my first ever 50 Saturday morning opening the batting. Got some free off season training thanks to a program by my cricket club.

Basically got rid of my trigger movement, made me stand a bit taller and hinge my shoulders properly. Also general weight transfer stuff.

Outside edged the ball quite a bit early on but realised I was accidentally rotating my wrists and closing the bat face. Fixed it and hit a few nice drives, through extra cover and cover-point. Outfield was long, wet grass so I only got 2 for them.

Batted smart too, they had a long on, cow and square leg in to me against a leg spinner but no one behind square. I paddle swept him down to fine leg which made them shuffle the field to deep mid wicket and backward square, I then slog swept him for 4 where cow corner just was.

Also slammed the same bowler over mid off for 4 after getting my 50.

Pretty happy.

So I don’t know if I said it on here but my club has been providing some coaching sessions for colts players in the off season.

Apart from immediate technical changes that immensely helped me, my main hurdle has been over-balancing when playing down the ground.

I’ve been doing exercises like front foot raised lunges recommended by the coach but also one where I just stand on my front foot and try to stay balanced while swinging through a straight drive.

I’m really happy because I was batting extremely well opening the batting this morning. I only made 15(17) however:

In my first over I creamed 3 (grounded) off drives straight to the man at mid off.

3rd over in I hit 5 2s and a dot, unfortunately the outfield was once again ridiculously slow so nothing was going for 4.

But the best thing is that 4 of those 2s were from clipping the ball off my pads between mid wicket and mid on. I middled every single one of them.

I think I middled every single ball of my innings until the one that got me out. A wide full ball that caught the outside half of my bat and I managed to hit straight to the man standing at point.
