Your action was much improved, better in the first over as you did not run thru the crease as much as in the second, no doubt concentrating on accuracy. Bummer about the run out as you were batting well with good placement and timing. Sometimes this approach is as important as trying to crunch every ball to the rope. 8/10 for your days work Cody.

I was very happy with how I batted as I haven’t done so in a match for a while. The cover drive was definitely a good confidence builder, even though I played it a T20 style with a bit less footwork than I would in a longer game. It came off the bat really nice.

As a side note I do really love my current bat, it’s a long blade Kookaburra Beast and it has the crispest middle on it. It feels beautiful when I middle something and I hardly feel myself hit it. The middle itself isn’t huge but it’s a damn good one.

Endeavour Sports High School has had four boys selected for the Cricket NSW Metropolitan Academy Squads for 2024/25:
Congratulations to Thomas Faulkner, Lucas Sheehy, Kobi Robinson, Byron Whitbread and Manav Shah.

It was this clip from '22 that drew my attention to Simon Budge when he played for his school Wesley College. He now plays PC for Melville CC. Is this the same club as yours Cody.
WC are wearing the green helmets and Budge comes in a #4 then completely dominates.

No, Melville CC is a premier cricket team. My team is Murdoch University-Melville CC, we play for a “secondary” comp.

The naming is little confusing.

Sorry I didn’t post about my games before:

Saturday- 0-35 off 5 overs, dropped sitter of a catch at gully off my 3rd ball. Bowled too many wides. Got lined up in my last over.

Sunday (this morning)- 2-8 off 3 overs, still bowled a few wides that probably made up half my conceded runs. Bottom edge to the keeper off a slog in my first over. Bowled a second straight after. Came back in the 17th over and conceded 1 run and got a batsman out stumped off my last ball.

I was watching back the streams for these games and I think I’ve had a major revelation.

What do these 3 have in common:

That is very different to me:

Other than my legs being lazy.

I’m loading up both arms at the same time. It sounds so basic but it makes so much sense. I didn’t even realise I was doing this tbh.

This is probably why I don’t rotate through my action properly regardless of how much I force it. My arms are out of sync and my front arm isn’t actually giving any power to my bowling arm.

I’ve just been shadowing loading up my bowling arm and then as that starts going down my non-bowling arm loads up and immediately goes down (like these 3 all do if you watch them, especially Starc and Cummins) and it feels so much smoother to do.

Your bowling action is improving but still not running thru the crease or is that a deliberate ploy to maintain accuracy. When are you gonna have a bat.

This is part of the mental change I made between matches. I was slowing down to gain accuracy and actually started bowling more wides, so you’ll probably see in the colts match I’m running through a little better than the one dayer. It might not be very visible but I felt like I was a bit more powerful towards the batsman.

I’m thinking about going down to one day 5 gold (6th XI) with the blokes I played winter cricket with to try get a bat.

You will definitely get a bat if you try out for and win a place in PC 5th grade two dayers. You will need to be running thru the crease tho so need plenty of practice. Then again you probably feel more comfortable in the 5 gold side. How do you rate your batting?

Just had centre wicket practice with a bunch of first grade lads and only got out once. Nailed a cover drive off one of the staple bowlers in the side, left arm pacer.

I think I’m pretty good, I play the ball very late and have a decent eye. My main issues are sometimes not taking a big enough stride forward and I can be a little slow on the pull and often hit it high up on the bat.

Strong off my pads and through cover. Have worked a lot on playing good balls late and getting them through gully region.

An emerging Steve Smith clone.

Jhye Richardson slowly returning to his best via a Seconds match this week. Smothered the hapless Blues taking 4/13 from 11 overs. He is visually slower than he was before his injury run. I recall him smashing thru the Poms at Adelaide with outstanding late swing at hi pace. Reckon his international future may now lie in white ball cricket.

I looked up that Test after I posted. Boy he was a weapon back in '21. I had him being one of our greats. What a waste of talent since.
