ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

As of now, there are no approved ICC facilities in the USA. If that is the case, perhaps the ICC will approve one of the grounds prior to the series or this is not a sanctioned tour?

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

At least people know where the US is.
Look at the map from cricinfo that shows a "location" for Bermuda:

Oops, guess again, cricinfo.

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

ha ha, too funny, looks like it got lost in the Bermuda Triangle and ended up in Cuba's back yard. watch out for those communists!

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

how could they get that wrong!!. then again Bermuda is so small you can't even see it on a map. From Cape Hateras North Carolina 600 miles to the east, smack in the middle of the atlantic. You could see it better on google earth.
Jeff, that Bermuda triangle joke is too funny! ha ha

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

This article suggests the current USCA still has allies and the means to make money:
Article

Sitting amongst a huge ex-pat population gives Mr. Dainty some oportunity to turn numbers into cash. Despite his problems with many in the US cricket community and the ICC, he could be around a while longer. Will the ICC stick to its guns or also try to cash in?

Is the ICC retarded or something? Why would they force YouTube to ban someone who has been posting videos that often made it to the top 100 and gave cricket some free publicity. First they put the games on $200 pay-per-view channels that no curious or casual fans would bother with, sacrificing long term growth for some quick bucks. Now they are taking away the highlights videos that potential fans could watch and learn the game better. And they wonder why cricket is not making progress in this country or anywhere it's not popular.

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

I believe the videos are being removed, but people keep adding them faster than they can be removed.

The user 'Worldwone' has posted dozens in the last two weeks. Many of those made it to the top 100 and some even to the top 20 (front page). Now his whole account is gone. I havn't seen more than 1 video in the top 100 after that.

hmm, that sucks. i'll keep checking to see if they are there

and why would the ICC want to have free videos up there of stuff that people have to pay to see? no big TV company likes that!

Why do you think users like 'NHLVideo', 'NBC', 'CBS' upload videos that often make the front page? (They could have posted those in their own websites where only the hardcores and some casual fans would see.) Free publicity. Cricket needs it more than NHL or 'SNL on NBC' does, and Youtube is one of the best, cheapest ways to get it. Last few weeks, a lot of people asked about cricket in the comments board under the videos that made the top charts. Some of us did our best to direct them to places where they can learn more about the game.

The old people from ICC are too stupid to realize that having presence on the front page of the 4th most popular website in the world (6th in the US) can be nothing but good for the game. And keep in mind, we're talking about highlights only, not the whole game. Those that are hardcore enough to pay $200 to see the games would not be satisfied with just the highlights on YT. So ICC and the PPV networks wouldn't really lose any customer.

Besides, they can't take down everyone that have been posting cricket clips. If you do a search on 'cricket highlights' you can find enough of them. So what they are basically doing is taking down those who have usually been successful in bumping the sport to the top of YouTube. Can you imagine how retarded it would be if MLS asked ESPN to stop showing the soccer highlights on the SportsCenter?

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

which is why viacom is filing a lawsuit against youtube...

oh, and i'm pretty sure NBC aren't putting videos up there for FREE.

are you timmyj in disguise?

Re: ICC suspends USA Cricket Association

ICC wants to ban YouTube highlights because they
don't want the non-cricket world to see rows and rows
of empty seats.

Calm down. This is all over cricinfo:

There is a point here. This is not about posting entire matches on YouTube. It is about highlights, which would have given cricket tremendous exposure.

ICC is indeed retarded in this case.

no, i won't calm down. :)

listen, i'm all about watching stuff on youtube, I do it all the time, but I think in this case people are just ragging on the ICC because it is the cool thing to do.

hell, i use youtube to watch highlights of stuff and clips from tv shows, etc. but that fact is that it is still copyright material.

if the ICC were smart they would've negoiated these to be allowed on youtube, hell if youtube knew they were going to be popular then the ICC could've made more money, which is what they are all about anyways.

Because both the ICC and the TV networks with broadcast rights would lose money.

The ICC has deals with a few networks around the world to broadcast games from the World Cup. Essentially, the people that are posting these highlights packages on YouTube are breaking copyright laws as they don't have the rights to reproduce footage for their own purposes. The only parties that have rights are the ICC and the networks that are covering the tournament's matches. This means that these people are breaking the law which also means that YouTube can get into serious trouble for hosting such footage on their site.

The ICC and the networks would also lose money. Potential or current subscribers would no longer want to pay money for something they can get for free by simply accessing the videos on YouTube.

We all know the ICC is money-hungry, there's no doubting that. But it is easy to why they don't want those videos on there, they and the broadcasting networks lose money.

I can just imagaine what his first journal article title would be,

"Does being an American citizen make you a mega prodigy at your chosen sporting profession?"
Not if that sport is soccer.

That would get me so red carded at bigsoccer.com

Timmy, I don't see the ICC caving in at all. I know these people. As much as they would like to see the USA get way more involved in big league cricket, it will never happen until there is a serious change in the USACA. Like Canada, the ICC saw the same set of circumstances unfolding there and forced change through moral suasion. They have been trying to do that in the USA, but to no avail so far. Until another group of people step up to dethrone Mugabe, there will be no change and no ICC. As for getting "athletes" at a young age, you won't get all the kids, but with 250 million people, you don't need a lot to get this program to an elite level. If you are to assume there are 30 million kids under the age of 10 (probably more) and you are able to attract 1 in 1000, you end up with a pool of 30,000 kids. This is very doable at a young age with the proper set up and coaching/mentoring. There are enough immigrants from cricket playing countries to get you these numbers, let alone tap the "naturalized" citizens. This is possible given the resolve and dedication to see through 20 years. This will not happen overnight. This is a long term solution, one that the ICC would like to see implemented. We'll see.

Cottell as much as that makes sense, the sad reality is, soccer fans have been saying the same for some time now. I would love to see this become a reality for cricket and for football, but they way things are looking now, it's not in the foreseeable future.
