India in New Zealand

Re: India in New Zealand

This is insane!! Raina came in for Tendulkar and has smashed four sixes already, he's 28 from nine balls and Dhoni's up to 68.

3/381 with two overs left. Poor old Tim Southee has the figures of 10-0-105-0. Couldn't do a Mick Lewis though. :D :D

Re: India in New Zealand

India finish on 4/392, Mills bowled a very good penultimate over, conceding only two runs and getting the wicket of Dhoni.

Raina then dispatched Ryder in the final over for a six as India fell short of the 400 mark. They equalled the record for the most sixes in an ODI which is 18 and India achieved that against Bermuda in the 2007 World Cup.

Re: India in New Zealand

NZ were bowled out for 334 in the 46th over. Jesse Ryder scored a century with McCullum racking up 71 before being run out. All appeared to be lost when McGlashan departed with the score at 7/218 but some lusty hitting from Ian Butler, Kyle Mills and Tim Southee saw NZ stay in it for a while longer but it all became too much.

India won by 58 runs and Tendulkar was named Man of the Match.

The 4th game is on Wednesday and NZ must win for them to have a chance at tying the series.

Re: India in New Zealand

India thrashed NZ again thanks to a blitzkrieg from Virender Sehwag. Sehwag smashed 125 not out from only 74 balls as India ended up well past the Duckworth/Lewis target when the rain fell again.

The rain potentially ended a record breaking innings.

Earlier, NZ were well served by McCullum and Ryder who have opened well together over the past few games. McGlashan and Elliott then slogged at the end to get NZ to a reasonable total but they weren't prepared for the Virender Sehwag show.

New Zealand Innings 5/270 (47 overs max)

Brendon McCullum 77 (95)
Peter McGlashan 56* (42)
Jesse Ryder 46 (57)
Grant Elliott 35* (27)

Ishant Sharma 2/57 (8)

India Innings 0/201 (23.3 overs)

Virender Sehwag 125* (74)
Gautam Gambhir 63* (67)

Result: India won by 84 runs via the Duckworth/Lewis method.
Series: India leads five-match series 3-0
Man of the Match: Virender Sehwag

Note: When rain interrupted India innings after 23.3 overs, the D/L target was 118. With the game not continuing, India were deemed to win the match by 84 runs as they were 84 runs above the par score at the 23.3 over mark.

Re: India in New Zealand

New Zealand won the last game very easily, cruising home by eight wickets. India sorely missed Tendulkar and Sehwag got himself out at a critical point of the game. From there, India crumbled and it was the part-timers who did the damage with Jesse Ryder taking three wickets.

Ryder attacked with the bat from the outset and with Martin Guptill made sure New Zealand got home with almost 20 overs remaining. India's bowling was pretty bad, only Harbhajan Singh could keep the runs down but by then NZ only needed about 1.5 runs per over. I've said it before and Ill say it again, Ishant Sharma is a rubbish bowler, incredibly overrated. Heading down a similar path to Irfan Pathan, explosive start but then a steady decline.

India Innings a.o. 149 (36.3/43 overs)

Rohit Sharma 43* (74)
Virender Sehwag 40 (27)

Jesse Ryder 3/29 (9)
Jacob Oram 2/22 (9)
Iain O'Brien 2/43 (7.3)

New Zealand Innings 2/151 (23.2/43 overs)

Jesse Ryder 63 (49)
Martin Guptill 57* (50)
Ross Taylor 28* (33)

Praveen Kumar 1/22 (4)

Result: New Zealand won by eight wickets with 118 balls remaining
Series: India won five-match series 3-1
Man of the Match: Jesse Ryder
Man of the Series: No Award

Bit harsh.
But time will tell.

Re: India in New Zealand

gee they put on some good batting wickets over in NZ, i remember when Australia went over there for a 3 match series (just prior to the last world cup) and we made 330 plus at least twice and NZ chased it down both times, must be like carpet.

Re: India in New Zealand

^ Nope, the grounds they play on are tiny. If you flick the ball off your pad in the air it will go for six!

Re: India in New Zealand

First test in underway. India won the toss and bowled first, a decision that was pretty well justified when NZ slipped to 6/60. However, Dan "The Man" Vettori and Jesse Ryder have consolidated since then and have added exactly 150 for the seventh wicket.

Vettori is up to 98 whilst Ryder is on 62. Score is 6/210. Ishant Sharma has three wickets, Zaheer Khan two with Munaf Patel taking one.

Re: India in New Zealand

Vettori gets his hundred, a top edge down to fine leg had everyone a bit nervous but it fell safe and that is a fine innings under immense pressure.

6/213 from 64 overs.

New Zealand XI: Tim McIntosh, Martin Guptill, Daniel Flynn, Ross Taylor, Jesse Ryder, James Franklin, +Brendon McCullum, *Daniel Vettori, Kyle Mills, Iain O'Brien, Chris Martin

India XI: Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Yuvraj Singh, *+MS Dhoni, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Munaf Patel

Re: India in New Zealand

Patel gets Vettori for 118, a great innings by the captain and then Mills bowled first ball. On a hattrick...

Re: India in New Zealand

Patel gets the breakthrough, jags one back in a little to Vettori who gets a faint inside edge and Dhoni dives to his right to take a nice catch.

Very next ball, Munaf fires in a yorker to Mills who was not expecting it and is clean bowled for a first ball duck.

8/246 now, Ryder on 77 with only O'Brien and Martin for company.

Re: India in New Zealand

I caught the first 10/15 overs before I headed off to school.

Zaheer was absolutely killing it, they couldn't hit him. Not a lot of movement just bowled the right areas.

Re: India in New Zealand

New Zealand were bowled out for 279, Ryder just to to his century before falling to Sharma for 102. The previous over he has to watch Chris Martin block five balls from Harbhajan before getting the chance to get his 100.

Sharma got four wickets and Patel took three after his little burst at the end of the NZ innings.

In reply, India are 0/29, Sehwag looked ominous, smacking Mills for 3 fours in one over. He is 22 from 18 balls, whilst Gambhir is on 6.

NZ have a lot of work to do tomorrow as India are in the box seat at the moment. The pitch is good to bat on now also after favouring the bowlers early but rain is forecast for the next two days so both sides will have to make the most of their opportunities.

Re: India in New Zealand

Stumps on day two, India are 4/278, they trail NZ by only one run. Gautam Gambhir made 72, Rahul Dravid 66 and Sachin Tendulkar is 70 not out.

Chris Martin is the only multiple wicket-taker for NZ with two, O'Brien took the wicket of Dravid and Sehwag was run out by James Franklin early in the morning session.

India in the box seat at the moment, their top order has looked good while NZ's was fairly ordinary and that's been the difference so far. Martin has looked good with the ball for the Kiwis but the others haven't been as impressive.

Play will begin at 10:51am tomorrow to make up for the play we lost today which was a total of nine minutes.

Re: India in New Zealand

India were bowled out for 520. Sachin Tendulkar scored 160, his 42nd century in tests. MS Dhoni made 47 and Zaheer Khan blazed 51 not out to get his side over the 500-mark.

In reply, New Zealand lost Tim McIntosh in the first over for a duck but they've consolidated since then and are 1/67, trailing by 174 runs. Martin Guptill's done most of the scoring and has scuttled to 48 not out. Zaheer was the wicket-taker.

Re: India in New Zealand

Now Guptill gives his wicket away. Half-volley from Harbhajan but Guptill scoops it stright to Virender Sehwag who takes an easy catch.

Only one over left today now, NZ are 2/75, Flynn on 24 and Mills on 2 as the nightwatchman.
