India in New Zealand

Re: India in New Zealand

Stumps on day three, India are 5/349, a lead of 531. Laxman was bowled by O'Brien for 61. Yuvraj Singh is not out on 15, Dhoni is on 16.

I'd say India would be aiming for a lead of 600 and then we should see a declaration. Play will start 30 mins early tomorrow also.

I hate this trend of batting teams out of the game. I'd rather see sporting declarations.

Won't happen anymore I'm afraid unless the weather or bad light cuts out a lot of play and teams try to make a game of it.

India declared at 7/434, a lead of 616 runs. Yuvraj made 40 and Dhoni 56 before MS decided to close the innings. Chris Martin picked up two wickets in the morning session to finish with three for the innings and seven for the game.

New Zealand are 4/167 in reply at the moment. Martin Guptill made 49 opening the innings, Ross Taylor has provided the most resistence with 69 not out and James Franklin is 26 not out.

Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh have two wickets each.

Another 450 runs required by New Zealand. The game is well out of their reach but there's some rain forecast for tomorrow so they could still escape with a draw. India will want quick wickets as the rain is expected to be persistent all day.

Re: India in New Zealand

Game has ended in a draw. New Zealand finished 8/281 before the rain came and there was no more play after that. Ross Taylor hit a fine 107 before being bowled by Harbhajan. Franklin scored 49 before two quick wickets from Tendulkar put NZ deep into the mire but the rain came to their rescue.

Harbhajan finished with four wickets, Zaheertook two and Tendulkar chipped in with two.

Gautam Gambhir was Man of the Match.

That concludes India's tour of NZ and that also finishes NZ's summer of cricket. The IPL begins on April 10 and that looks to be an exciting prospect!

There are talks in the news channel that India missed the chance of winning the Third Test by declaring late and thereby losing an opportunity to win the Test Series by 2-0.

Loss of time for bad light didn't help them either. After New Zealand finished Daylight Saving on Sunday Morning, the start time should have been brought forward to 10am but it was kept at 11am.

Having said that, India didn't need to be 617 runs in front. 500 would have been more than enough and it would have given them at least another hour.
