Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Had many good 1s over the years, but I dont think I can go past Whittlesea a few years ago. Roast chicken cold and warm to choose from I can still taste it now.

Worst by a mile would be Eltham College before they got there new club rooms. Shocking tea the bread was as hard as toast, I think it had egg and some other green stuff on the sanga's. It was a hot day after the game I went to get a cold beer and it felt like there cans were sitting in front of a heater. To make matters worse they gave us a caining that day as well.

Ha ha. And you never join him?

Mind you when you've got nothing better to do than drink by yourself on a Saturday...

And what was the best/worst feed you've ever had Wizz?

Havent missed a Saturday Rampant for 30 years. The Wizz hasn't played for 6 years since I dropped his arse.

What the worst arvo tea you have ever had and where was it ?

Played a one-day game against Doubleview in my first season of senior cricket. Our tea consisted of a box of Cheese and Bacon Shapes with the other side going into the changerooms to eat the rest of the food.

Best tea I've had is too hard to choose from, a couple from this season have been good so far (supplied by us of course) and there have been a few in previous seasons that have been good as well. Hot food goes down a treat so I'll have to agree with mas there.

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Worst one I have had was nothing... I'm a food junkie so a wolf down anything. Having nothing is just torture.

Best was probably was this HUGE cake for another guys birthday.

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Are there any clubs that you've found consistently turn out poor spreads?

Or alternately are there any clubs that consistently have good ones?

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Any club that I would say you wouldn't know anyway...

And I have just moved and as a result I am having to start again. Back down to C-Grade to tear them apart for a little bit. I move from one district to the next and they think I have to prove what I am capable of before letting me into even reserve grade. Had my first training session today and nearly killed someone so it's alright.

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Regardless of the name of the club, there is one club in our league that always churns out some quality meals like scones, sandwiches (three or four different kinds), watermelon, party pies, sausage rolls and oranges every time we play them. I think that's about as good as you can get really, when you consider that you still have to go out and play afterwards...

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Most of the time we just come off and go to the canteen and get what we want, there's no consistent afternoon tea persay.

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

Really, it's probably the best time to get to know the blokes you're playing against, before the bar opens anyway...

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

We are all pretty familiar with each other, and the sheds are next to each other on most of the grounds so I often just walk over and sit with them and talk pointless tactics until they finally notice that I'm not on their team :p

That is pretty much standard tea in the UK. I reckon 90% of places churn out the following:

Sandwiches (3/4 types of which one will be fish, one egg or cheese and two meat)
Rolls (2 types - 1 meat, 1 cheese/egg (depending on what the sandwiches were))
Sausage rolls
Scotch eggs
Scones with butter and jam
Pizza
Fruit (watermelon, apple, bananas or oranges)
Chocolate (normally a penguin type bar or tim tam to you lot)
Cake (2 types, 1 chocolate and 1 other)
Tea and squash for drinks

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

The problem with our clubs is that none of the guys can cook... and all of the wives or volunteers simply refuse to cook. Wives up here just look at them as if they are immature for playing the sport...

I think you might open up a can of worm with this post Boris. I am staying out of it.

I'm not saying anything bad about anyone... just the fact that the players are the only ones at the ground most of the time, and the players don't feel like cooking after just coming off the field.

We are very lucky in that regard. We average around 50-60 supporters watching us when we are at home and probably 20 when we play away. We have a canteen manager that organises afternoon teas and food from the canteen. My club is opened Friday night for juniors and Milo, Saturday morning and arvo and most Sundays. It takes a lot of organisation to provide for the people who want to eat and drink. We are middle of the road in members size but probably No.1 if not close to in supporters watching.
Plenty of beer sales which make us very financial.

Re: Last person to post on this thread wins 7

We have plenty of people that come out to watch, not sure of the new club I'm with because I haven't played a game, but where I was the turnout was good, especially when we played on the Maroochydore pitch... which the Aussie team has played at before... because it always allows for really good games and its in the middle of the city.

It's the volunteers we lack. All the players have to set up and help the groundsman every week at training, we often have the players on a bye in the canteen and the clean up is left down to people like the scorers. Most of the time, and I'm not being sexist in any way, there is barely a female in the vacinity of the grounds, cricket is not a sport for the women around here.

We probably get about 50 people through the gates to a home game over the course of a days play. But generally they're not going to be putting their hands up to make up tea for the players, which is probably fair enough... However, it depends on how many 17-year-olds are playing, because they have mums that bring food. :D
