Ok, thought I would let you guys know that the Umpires Association is not happy with some of the posts that have been put on this forum. They have put in an official complaint to the Association and have said they would follow this up if they believe any of thier members have been defamed. The Executive totally agrees with them and will support them.
As you should be aware everyones Big Cricket user name can be tracked quite easily.
If it ever gets to this stage (hope it doesn't), then I can gaurantee you that the player hiding behind their user name will have a very long rest from playing cricket.
As has been stated before, we are very short on umpires and just can't afford to lose anymore and plus this doesn't help to recruit them.
So lets forget about the umpires and discuss whats going on between the teams and players out on the park.

Cheers

The question is what has happened to the umpires that the Comp had? And is it possible to attract new umpires?

Why would you want to continue to umpire, and join our comp when you look at the attitudes and opinions of some of the players in this comp, especially some of the ones expressed on here. I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of years we do not even have enough umpires for A Turf.

Big Call....
What game did you umpire on the weekend?

Heights - 10 points
Glenroy - early day
Vales - need wickets quick dont want 2 chase 220+
St.Francis - early day
Barkly - another with an early drink
St.Andrews - interesting could be 20/30 runs 2 short or 2 many, stick with bowling side

good luck with bat or ball

We lost 50 minutes due to rain on the weekend which means YCW bat on due to the ordinary conditions rule. Need to pick up the last 5 wickets quickly for there to be any chance of victory.

We bowled well on the weekend so I'd back our boys to take the last 5 before the first drinks break!

Another great battle looming between two great rivals. No excuses for us, its a very gettable target and we probaly have a our best batting line up for the season.
And Smoke, you keep bowling that short stuff to me, then your going to go for plenty. :D

Weapons- Dont know who you are or where you are, but i seriously think you should do some work every now and then.
Either that or you're on workers comp with RSI of the fingers from typing out so many posts on Big Cricket!
Do you play? I wouldnt imagine you would, you wouldnt have time to train or play being camped on this site.........:D

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat 2009/10

Aggressor - that's an aggresive response - no wonder you call yourself the aggressor because i've seen you play cricket and well i was thinking Geoff Boycott might be a more appropriate name.

Hey the "pud" meister not sure if you were having a crack at the St Mary's blokes with the "hanging round for a beer" comment but listen mate, i've had a beer with you and no offence but it ain't exactly stimulating conversation so can't really blame them for taking off early - in fact i think they were all going home to bed ....couldn't keep their eyes open after thay finished talking to you...stopped off at the milk bar for some match sticks so they could keep their eyes open they did!!!!!!

Instead of practising your outy mate, work on your jokes

Fair enough, your love of big cricket cannot be questioned, just trying to ascertain where you play? You seem to be all over the place. You obviously dont play in MMVCA?
Im sure you're a very good player, and you do very well for your team/club.

As far as me doing any of the above, well im just a young fella that loves his cricket, thats trying to find his way in the BTurf. Im not a very good player but im trying to improve with every game i play! Hopefully soon i can break through into the ATurf!
All the best for the rest of the season!

Justabystander - those two questions mate - you might as well have asked how long is a piece of string? Give us some suggestions make, don't just spell out the problem.

Umpires need to enjoy the actual act of umpiring, the involvement in the game, the banter with the players. If the players embrace the umpires, respect them at all times and show some empathy towards them then hey, you might find that more umps keep umpiring and you might start to attract ex players etc.

It all comes down to the players and in turn the clubs that they represent - how about bringing in a proactive umpiring policy throughout the association with some really good club incentives for meeting and exceeding expectations.

Start this week with all players shaking the Umps hand before play & and after play and then have a beer.
