Nah happy for the Socials to stay Hirdy. Although disappointing this season I think you have more room for improvement than East...Interesting to see the battle for the spoon being fought out between two of last season's finalists, but as I mentioned earlier East wanted the cooking utensil more.

Bite Me, I noticed you were tipping a St Mary's/St Andrew's Final yesterday but now you are saying St Mary's and West Coburg ??

I did tip that if the weather had no part to play in it... But i did say if the weather does it would be a St Mary's West Coburg...

It's very interesting with the weather throwing a spanner in the works for the weekend. I think with this mind you would have have favour the stronger bowling sides leading into the weekend. With the St Andrews West coburg game it will come down to which side bats better as both sides bowl very very well. I think Andrews have their nose in front given this. In the other game Wardy may become a bigger factor than Warren as he has the ability to change a game on it's head. All this rain has done is basically made these two games closer than they already were. I'm still sticking with a West Coburg Glenroy grand final but wouldn't be at all surprised for the results to go the other way. let's just hope the rain doesn't effect the playing conditions either reducing the games to one dayers or even washing them out for the weekend. Looking forward to seeing a couple of very close games though- I heard on the grapevine that maybe the venues may not be home ground advantage in the semi's.

Congrats to all sides that are playing finals......

Should be a great final's series.

Early predictions for the grand final are St Mary's and St Andrew's AGAIN..

West Coburg to be there at the business end of the season.

I may be wrong but i don't think the semi's can be a one dayer as mon is the back up day.... If it washes out the side that finishes higher on the ladder progress through so if a ball gets bowled on a sat or sun and the rest of that day is washed out it's considered a days play so mon is not required....

Bite me, I didn't think they were going to use Monday as a back up! But it would be no surprise if I wrong

I've been waiting for you all weekend CDCA, and all i can say is that you have disappointed me with your response. Let's look at the facts, obviously your from pacco, and obviously you did quite well in this game and if you are who I think your are you've got more to worry about than what I'm doing next year. Yet another unsuccessful, no result year for pacco which is pretty much the norm. It's amazing how your such a 'student' of the game but you are yet to come up with a reason why pacco are such under achievers, how can they achieve anything when they have knuckle heads like yourself more concerned about everyone else than their own game. Let's look at the wasted season at Merlo- Last to Fifth, won more than they lost, played some kids and exposed some real talent, moving in the right direction. A semi would have been a bonus but you've got to start somewhere. I will be at Merlo next year even it it's just as a player so i look forward to playing against you again luna park. maybe if your heart was as big as your mouth the club would be doing a little better and moving forward instead of being 'no where' again this year.

Guru tell us who this student of the game is down at Pacco!!! another one of your fantasy thoughts...............:)

Roo, let's just get back to the semi's on saturday/sunday, what's your thoughts?

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

Monday is a Reserve day and will only be used if a ball is not bowled on Saturday or Sunday.
Venues will be released to clubs tonight.

i was truly interesting in your thoughts on Pacco cos when we played them they were fine.

Anyway..........i think west cob and st marys will get through to the GF. Only problem for West Cob is the depth of their batting. Bowling is fine but batting brittle.

Glenroy have strong bowling stocks, but batting also is too heavily reliant on Parker. Although Stephens is in form and usually performs well in finals.

St marys have an average bowling attack but will need to hope Glenroy dont hit their straps. But Marys batting can be powerful on its day.

St Andrews not in good form, but have expereinced finals campaigners..........but i reckon this year will see a change of the gaurd. Too much reliance on Taylor, Newton and Tapner.

Prediction - West Cob in a close one over St Marys.

Good Luck

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

oh and the umpires for the A turf GF will be Pat Campbell and Gary Houston, by far and away the two best umps in the comp. (Ron isnt far behind)

Pat in his final year will go out on top and even though some dont like Chippy, he is a very good umpire.

Ron tennick to do B turf with Alf. raffle the rest.

Great umpire, did 2 of our games and no problem what so ever- Don't like their chances of an LB but he is very very consistent. he just does give them. We have gary against West coburg and he was solid as a rock, they won't influence the result by errors that's for sure. did I hear right that Al taylor might be moving on?

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

Heard haig is looking at joining VTCA? Would have to start in North B....They have to be joking!!! Its not any easier in that comp

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

I would like to know what everone thinks there club need's to be more successful next year? e.g quality batsmen quality bowler spinner or pace or a few young kids to put pressure on the senior players that rest on their reputation

Outside, if things don't go well with the merger the VTCA might be on a few clubs list. Haig are in a rebuilding stage and quite possibly they might be thinking that moving comps might attract some new players for the club to start that rebuilding stage. My involvement with them has been very enjoyable they are good guys but they need to change the way the clubs going otherwise it wont be there at all, which would be a shame. It will be interesting to see what happens over the next few months. Plenty of more travel in the VTCA. A trip to werribee, seddon, crazyburn etc

Is it a reliable source ?
I can assure you Haig won't be going into the VTCA.
We played the most kids out of the whole competition last year and this year we were extremely disappointed were we finished.
But in saying that the last 3 season we have come a long way. IMO.
We got washed out against both East Coburg & Social who finished below us.
We lose against West Coburg by 2 runs (with one of the players not turning up). They finish 1st
Barkley street we had 6 players missing. if we win only 2 of those games we are one game behind Merlo and Pacco. (But If my mum had balls she would be my dad).
Then who knows we might be the most improved side in the comp....
Bite Me the problem at the club is hunger, professionalism and willingness. The kids are a year older and look at Benny Luc development and others.
As coach I take a total blame for results but IMO we are not too far away.

Bite me in a perfect world all of the above. Quality batsman are hard to find especially guys that make 350+ but one in your lineup as an addition would be fantastic. I think the days of quick tough opening bowlers are gone. Newton is a workhorse and gives St Andrews more than you would think but he's not in the mould of the bloke who wants to hurt you and make your life hell. I hear a couple of blokes talking about Blacky at Socials and Snowy at merlo they're the bowlers you don't see anymore. I'm not saying it's the way sides should go but an aggressive bowler who's at the batsmen and wants to unsettle him is not common as it used to be. Kids are obviously the future of all clubs but we need to work closely with them because it can be a big jump and lots of kids are not always able to cope. I think at merlo this year our kids were great and the last game showed how far they had come along.

Re: MMVCA General Cricket Chat

All i know is that they are looking at it as an option just like guru said.... Attracting players, a new start etc nothings set in stone all talk at this stage...

Guru

There will be no trip to Werribee, they will win the flag this year and be promoted.
They are a club on the move.
