Seems to be alot of questions on merger the message we are geting in the nwca which doesnt seem to be accurate reading what is coming from you guys is that it is definetly happening next year. I have been told that grades will not merge until the year after.

Not sure how true any of this is but we are getting told its happening in North West.

A Turf: St.Marys have to be favourites. A lot depends on whether Harris and Zimmer can put on a decent opening stand and allow the other bats some freedom. Brown is all class, Hunter has his days and old Ketty can knock a few around so if there are a few runs on the board early then they should be able to knock up a good score against Easts' attack. And St.Marys' pace attack mixed with the spin twins on the bigish ground should suit them nicely.

Socials v St.Andrews is a ripper. And for those who think Danny Campbell's absence won’t make a difference you are kidding yourselves. He is a consistent performer with bat and ball and can take the game away from the opposition in a flash. If Fitzy can pull his head in and take a couple of key wickets early then the Socials are a chance. Otherwise St.Andrews will use all of their wickets in hand and have a real bash after tea, which essentially has been their game plan that they've really nailed over the last couple of seasons. However we all know that taking injured players into finals is a massive risk, especially with back to back days. So whether the likes of Taylor, Scott Wernham and G Tapner are up to it we'll have to wait and see. Smoke will have to do a fair bit of bowling and pick up 4 or 5. Good luck young fella. Jolley rarely misses out on a score in finals and will have the edge in tactics over Verno and the boys. I'd like Socials to win but reckon St.Andrews will get their chance to go back-to-back with another close victory.

Well done to St.Francis on their comprehensive win in the club championship. A strong club with plenty of good, young talent coming through. Commiserations to Pascoe Vale who finished 3rd last, managing to finish higher than the mighty Ascot Vale and Coolaroo. Will they ever play A Turf finals?!?!

Predictions
B Turf - St.Francis - clearly finished on top and the word is Steward is back from injury, look out.
C Turf - St.Francis - geez this is killing me but I've heard they've got a handy attack and plenty of experience with the bat.
A Mats - Strathmore Heights - young guns Watts and May will dominate
B Mats - St.Francis (again!) - club legends playing lower grades
C Mats - West Coburg - Nunan to lead the way
One Day 1 - St.Andrews - who's gunna stop them? Denis Ryan will sparkle
One Day 2 - St.Albans - class above and will get the job done[/QUOTE

Great Summary

A little teaser this morning, but the birds are singing and the sun is shining, what a great weekend for cricket!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lets just hope the best teams win....

The club I play for has teams in both the MMVCA & NWCA. It is my experience that NWCA is run with the attitude "you will do as I say or else" it is ran like a dictatorship, with Mr T Scott at the helm directing his minows. Now I'm not saying that the MMVCA is the best (no one is ever happy with their comp), but at least their not power driven (that much), and will listen occasionally to what the club and or individual has to say. This unfortunately does not apply for the NWCA, which could explain why a few clubs have left the comp. I think I have said it before that I am not a fan of the merge. Maybe it's personal, I just don't like them or the way they run the NWCA.

Not much has changed when the two competitions were having having discussions about 10 years ago. The main sticking points were exactly the same ones being aired again. I am not involved now so I am very interested to see how it pans out if it ever does get off the ground. I do remember those NWCA meetings Hirdy, used to get an elbow to wake me up. :D

The word coming from the MMVCA delegates meeting wed night was that they are into setting the by-laws now. Have worked through section regarding fines, affiliate fees, ect. Now dipping there toes into match day section. This is the section they think will take quite a while. A lot of differences between comps. NWCA want merger next season. MMVCA say merger won't be till at least the season after. That came from MMVCA executives. So will be interesting to see what happens.

Is there any gain for the MMVCA and its members other than the NWCA junior set up? Which will remain there set up? For there clubs. I guess it will make it slightly easier for MMVCA teams to set up Junior teams but is there any other benfits at all?

Do member clubs have any say in that matter at all or does it just come down to the two executive comittees?

Clubs will have the final say in a vote.

Bomber your man around the Comp what do you think the vote will be? yes or no? do they need more than just 50%

I'm waiting to see what the structure of the competition and the by laws will be, so are alot of other clubs.

Not sure what the % is.

The voting will be tricky as some clubs get more votes then others. Again I would have to check this up but its something like if your club has 1 or two teams you get one vote and if you have 3 or more teams, you get 2 votes. But don't quote me on that. So alot depends on how the bigger clubs vote.

From my feedback, the matting clubs are not keen on the merger and the main reason why some of the turf clubs are happy with it, is because they have juniors in the NWCA. At the moment its a bit of hassle dealing with two associations.

The NWCA is fast becoming a feeder comp to the VTCA, thats why I believe their keen for the merger.

As I've stated before, there's along way to go.

Re: mmvca

that is true about the nwca being a feeder comp to the vtca, but why does there seem to be alot of negative feedback from the mmvca clubs for the merger?
you all dont agree it would make the combination one of the strongest local comps going around?

Re: mmvca

I think the Comps are so close geographically but so far apart on so many other areas. It just seems like the two comps are playing completly different cricket. Anyone else agree? I guess you could say MMVCA is more your Test cricket cop and the NWCA is more of a T20 comp....

yeah it doesn't make much sense at all does it... MMVCA seems to be more a serious standard - dont get me wrong NWCA I have no doubt takes their cricket serious but the quality just seems to be better in the MMVCA and its more about patitence and doing the 1%ers and stuff like that.

It just seems to me a higher grade of cricket I guess.
