If matty isnt in your top 3 then give me 3 bowlers in our comp that are?? id have matty top 2 easy!!!
Paul Newton and Matty Costello are the best bowlers and are good blokes too.

I could not be any more proud to play along side Paul each week.

And playing against Matty I find him to be a great bloke also.

And FFNB, you made me smile when i got to the ground this morning.

For those that dont know, FFNB promised me a surprise when we played West Coburg. For the last couple of weeks, he has said that he will put me back on the shelf at bunnings, as im a garden gnome. Well when we got to the ground this morning and lifted the covers, there was not one but two gnomes under the covers! Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to do that.

Please meet meet Bangers and Mash.

We thought they looked alot like you, matter of fact we thought your twin brother was playing with you....
You might've come to the conclusion now that you are not well liked as you think you are in this comp!!!
Also what a weak effort you put up on Saturday. Hopefully you have the balls to come out and face the music this weekend.

Re: mmvca

i must say i am so proud of east coburg cricket club and announcing our 500th player Lister Cooray! i believe our results on field prove what a strong club we are and that we are a force in this competition

i am also extremely happy that our association is getting fantastic exposure from this site!

well done MMVCA

Re: mmvca

Some kudos to for an 'old' bloke who is a 'hack', no good, and even 'dead' I believe; going my what I have read on this site of late.

Ryan Doidge, 38 not out, top score in a very good team on a very ordinary wicket. To go with his 49 not out the game before.

Ryan would admit himself that he struggled at times last year to make a few. It just proves how persistence, determination and mental application can make such a difference. Many would say that this game is played above the shoulders. I am rapt for the bloke! Well done Doidgey!

It depends on whether they were throwing there wickets away. Sometimes on those wickets its just a matter of time before you get one to take off, no matter how prepared you are to knuckle down.
You only had to watch the days play on Cole #1 to see that. The wicket was a disgrace and was just as bad from the first ball to the last ball of the day.

Matty would be in my top 6 but not top 3.

Top 3 bowlers (no particular order)

Wardy
Newton
Costello

Followed by -

Wernham

Apparantly it was just slow off the pitch. I think frustration got the better of those batsman from tight partnership bowling.

Matty top 6??

Id say top 2 along with Appleyard and Newton, Ward, Adams, Barker not far behind

you pretty much named my top 6.

Top 3 - Appleyard, Ward, Newton

Re: mmvca

Interesting to see that no-one appears to rate Justin Summerfield as a bowler, I would have thought he was easily in the top 3 in the comp. All I know is that it is much harder batting in our nets against him, than it is on a Saturday against anyone else. Plus he could bowl all day at one end and not think anything of it, and not "dog" it when he gets it for a couple like most other "quality" bowlers do.
Nothing against anyone else named here, but having played with him for several years now, he would be the first bowler I would pick, because I know what I would get, week in, week out.

costello is a very good bowler our guys said he was untouchable on saturday. he is the bloke who lead the attack in the grand final against you blokes a couple years ago at our ground

and we do not pay lister, just gets some chemical aid every once in a while

Re: mmvca

Of the blokes i have faced, excluding Glenroy (where i obviously play), the quality bowlers are the usual suspects, Newton, Costello, Adams, Barker & Summerfield (I think Fitzy and Pittsy have been a huge loss to MMVCA bowling stocks this year, both young and willing, along with Campbell). As Diligaf mentioned ealrier, i have faced Ward for years in the nets and he continues to impress and bowls himself into the ground. The other thing with all these guys mentioned is that they are all quality blokes. Noteable omission is Stevenson (seems to keep taking wickets but i don't remember facing him) and H Perera (haven't faced him either)

In saying this, St Mary's are a well rounded bowling attack and don't seem to rely on anyone bowler. I think alot of teams struggle with variety in their line up and quality spinning options are few and far between. Your thoughts?

Lets go one step further guys, who has the best bowling attack in the comp and why?

And batting line up?

apologies to everyone who takes this site seriously. The boys at socials seem to have nominated me for everything from the greatest player to ever live to the first black president of the united states on this site this year. lol im no longer a junior with extensive training, i am now a hack trying to learn how to bat again

good to be out on the field and hearing some immature comments again like the one above. thats the beauty of this league, i forgot how much i missed the sledging, copped an earful from glenroy but it only makes you bat better :D

damaged my hand in the 1st match but ill hopefully be back next game...

not that it will make much difference, i'm so out of form its not funny! :(

good luck to all teams this year, looking forward to getting to know some of you blokes and its great to be a part of the comp.

Cheers Lister

After sitting on the sidelines of this forum I thought I would finally jump in and say Hello! Thanks to the nice comments from Old Hack and RooBoy!

Thanks to Rhino for the life last game ;-)

Certainly been in interesting start to this year and it looks like it will be a tough year on the park. Just the thing I hope challenges the boys to have a great season!

Cheers, Sean.

Re: mmvca

Really not looking good at all weather wise for Friday and Saturday. If it 'actually' does rain:eek: that is......

That Cole wicket will struggle with any rain, same as Hallam from what I saw on the weekend.

I agree that Cole can't afford to have any rain on it (match was close to being abandoned last week).

Hallam had 270 odd runs scored on it, our boys thought it played very well.

Summerfeild yer na , but as i said a while ago this comp and the tracks we play on make shit players look good and good players look very average, so if your mental side of your game isnt right then youll fail most times.
