Money Shield 2024/25

I was reliably told that the bully boys at Monty were misbehaving against the younger opponents in banyule.
I’ll give you 2 guesses who they were……
Ordinary individuals……
Sound like some muck raking rumour. Best team won and maybe some there was some brotherly banter.

I love how people stir the pot without being there.

Both teams knew the consequences of the loss/win. Played in a very competitive spirit.

Most blokes on here forgot what is was like to play in the 80’s. Todays games are Saturday afternoon picnic with serves of scones and cream.

2 rounds to go, good luck to all teams.

Plenty coming home with wind in their sails. They’ll be hard to beat & my prediction is they’ll win promotion. Eltham may challenge & have a strong batting lineup however I can’t see anyone beating them.
Money shield will go to Plenty park.

would be a fair effort from 5th, no faith in the bankers to contend?

Anyone think Lower Eltham will come back from Mash ?
Pretty big fall from grace over the past few years. Burgs a chance to retire. Whitch is 53 i think and loves his cricket so he might go on. Can they attract any new players?

It’s actually sad to see a highly successful club on its knees in this manor.

Going to be bloody difficult to see them return to the higher levels of the DVCA.

Also just shows what a debacle the points cap situation is the comp have implemented the last 2 years. A club like lower Eltham without a huge junior club are completely hamstrung in recruiting their way of this. Clubs need to get together on this one and demand the points cap is abolished moving forward, it simply will have a far more negative effect then positive one

Incentivises clubs that put a priority on junior cricket and getting kids involved in the game. Why incentivise clubs that are going to go and splash cash on merchants that are going to stick around for one year. Backward thinking

To be fair to Lower Eltham, they have to compete with a few other clubs close by for attracting juniors.
Losing Mac Stanley week before season started didn't help their cause either.

I dunno if you have looked around lately but the game is dying at grass roots level

Lower Eltham are competing with Eltham, Mont, Lower Plenty within 4km of each other. They don’t have a footy club connected to it so will always be at a disadvantage to their competitors

The points cap was just an unnecessary restriction placed on clubs when we have never ever had a major problem of clubs building dynasty’s in one off season.

And to go one step further, the parameters of the cap are all wrong anyway. Let’s use Lower Eltham as the test case, the lost 2 former juniors in Stanley and Felton this off season. If they were to head back to Lower Eltham in the future both would head back as 3 pointers. This is 100% incorrect and the rule needs to be amended, any player who heads back to a club they played juniors at should only be 1 point
