New Zealands tour of England

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Get rid of bloody Bucknor and we will get twice as much cricket, he never wants to play and is always the first with the light meter out

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Bucknor is getting the wrong side of the age bracket, i feel it is time for him to quietly slip into the background and retire gracefully.

Havent found anything regarding McCullum, any news on him? Playing second test?

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Southee is dropped (illness/form) and O'Brien is in for the New Zealanders

England remains unchanged

NZ have won the toss and will bat

Weather looking okay but showers are predicted for later in the day

One Darryl Hair making a comeback as an umpire, good luck to him

Re: New Zealands tour of England

154/4 How made 68, Sidebottom has got 2 fa

Flynn tried to pull a short ball from Anderson and has been hit clean on the face. Spewing blood and has lost at least one tooth, nasty stuff. Retired hurt and Oram replaces, for the second test in a row, an injured player

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Match delayed by bad light....at 4pm.

4/202, Oram up to 22 and Ross Taylor is 67. Taylor has only faced 75 balls too, so he is not wasting any time. Covers are also on as there is some light rain falling.

This only further strengthens the argument for an earlier start. Going off for bad light at 4pm is a joke, they've really got to start one hour earlier.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

the day finished at 4/202. New Zealand will need to get a move on tomorrow if this isn't going to be another draw.

Why would they bother? They want the draw, a drawn series is like a win for the Kiwis

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Stumps on Day 2

New Zealand - 381
Taylor 154*
How 64
Mills 57

Anderson 4/118

Re: New Zealands tour of England

England all out 202, could have been far worse if it wasn't for a Stuart Broad 50.

For New Zealand Vettori got 5, O'Brien 3 and Mills 2.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Broady got 30

NZ now 86/4 with Taufel finally waking up and realising that Monty can also hit the stumps and is finally for the first time all series giving him some LBWs including McCullum for a quacker

Re: New Zealands tour of England

England are 1/149 and in complete control now, they only need a further 145 runs to win the test match. Andrew Strauss is up to 63 not out, Michael Vaughan is 47 not out.

Only a severe batting collapse could see England lose from here.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

The BigCricket curse strikes. A full one from Martin, Vaughan goes for a big drive but only succeeds in getting an edge which McCullum takes with ease.

2/150 now. Pietersen in.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

England reached 4/294 giving them victory by 6 wickets. It was all Andrew Strauss in the second innings, he scored 106, a vital knock which got them to the brink. He fell for 106 with Pietersen run out not even three overs later to give New Zealand a glimmer of hope.

But the Kiwis couldn't strike again as Ian Bell and Paul Collingwood scored the remaining runs needed to win, Bell scored 21 not out and Collingwood an undefeated 24 to make sure England didn't suffer a collapse of any sort.

Martin, Vettori and O'Brien were the wicket getters for New Zealand with O'Brien combining with McCullum for the run out of Pietersen.

A fighting win for England, they were down and out after giving up a huge first innings lead but Monty Panesar skittled the Kiwis for 114 taking 6/37 in the process. From there the English batters played responsibly and got the total, something which didn't seem likely after their first effort.

A good win for England, they take a 1-0 series lead, that was also the highest ever chase at Old Trafford, something to be proud of. New Zealand now has a three-day tour game against Northamptonshire beginning May 30 before the third test which starts on a very good day, :)p) June 5th at Trent Bridge, Nottingham.

Re: New Zealands tour of England

Nice win for England- highest run chase at Old Trafford had only been 230 or so, and they smashed that....solid batting took them there in the second dig....

On to trent Bridge for the final Test.

Eddie- good to see you posting on here....

Re: New Zealands tour of England

New Zealand won the toss and elected to field first

Hopkins in for New Zealand to wicket-keep. Looks like McCullum has been moved to number 3 in the batting order

Are they after a massive quick start or just going to hope he can calm his natural instincts a little?

England unchanged i believe it was
