PARIS OLYMPICS

There was some controversy over the cross of St. George on the outfits of our athletes, the cross was in rainbow colours instead of the usual red cross. I get a bit tired of all this diversity, each to their own but stop forcing it upon us. 👍

OK, the uniform may look different on a real body. Tara Davis-Woodhall said that she's happy with the design after seeing them in person.
“It was the picture that did no justice. I saw one [of the uniforms] today. They’re beautiful. They’re not like the picture. The cut does look a little bit different on that mannequin. They just should have had a second look with someone to choose that photo to post.”
Two-time Olympic medalist sprinter Gabby Thomas echoed Davis-Woodhall's comments, saying she was “initially shocked like everybody else," when she saw the uniform on social media.
“I think I love wearing as little clothes as possible just because you’re sweaty, you’re being really active and moving, so I love that we have the option to wear that, but we also have the option to wear any uniform we want. We could wear the men’s uniform if we really wanted to. So I’m comfortable with what they put out there. The initial shock was warranted, but I think no one has anything to worry about.”

In the run-up to the Olympics there are two major events here in Europe, the European Athletics Championships that just ended in Rome and the Euro2024 football cup starting today (Aussie time) in Germany with the match Germany-Scotland.
In athletics the new star in the European firmament is Italy that topped the medal table with 11 gold, 9 silver, and 4 bronze medals, followed - with a huge gap - by France and GB , Germany ranking 12 with just one gold medal. No idea how Italy did it.
High hopes are pinned over here on a successful football tournament for Germany as the host of the competition like it was in 2006 when people were brought together for a football festival dubbed the summer fairy tale.

I will be favoring Germany Thomas.

My waiting time is being shortened in an entertaining way by the fact that our football team has done very well in the first two matches by beating Scotland 5-1 and is already qualified for the last 16. England is still struggling.

An Olympic atmosphere, nothing beats it in my view.
You?
I'm most curious about the decathlon competition since an up and coming German athlete by the name Leo Neugebauer is expected to break the 9000 points barrier. He himself is so convinced of his success that he skipped the European championships. He stayed in the US where he studies and trains and where he reached a personal best of 8961 points.
I'll also be watching the matches of our women's football team, tennis, gymnastics - if broadcast.
