Post Pictures of your Kit!

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

i have never seen an over knocked bat, purely because most people dont work an area properly on bats they just hit all over!

i set my self targets on knocking in my bats, so half an edge each session of knocking in.... keep working at it. i reckon i spent about 8 hours on my "Sapling" but it still split the other day from a yorker! but the edges are solid now!

That's not a bad way of doing things.

If I bother to knock a bat in then I'll do it in blocks of 30-45 mins. I'll spend a little bit of time on the edges to help round them off, then work on the main blade. I try to work in a pattern but you do get fed up and just randomly hit it I find.

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

I knocked in my new bat for about 45mins last night and I noticed that little seam marks appeared all over the place. Just little ones, not full 'lines' if you know what I mean. Is this normal??

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

A new ball (bought at the same time) in a thick cricket sock. Just holding the ball inside it and tapping - not taking swings at it yet :p

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

Seam marks aren't really anything to worry about as you can always lightly sand them out. If you can get hold of a mallet though, it would stop the marks appearing.

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

Well it's got an anti-scuff sheet so I can't sand it and I don't know where to buy a wooden mallet - the nearest shop only sells the ones with balls on the ends - so I think I'll just keep going as is, if it's not doing damage to it anyways??

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

I would start with an old ball ! You need to compress the wood not dent it! :D

Use a new ball later on if at all!

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

Forgot about the anti-scuff. Those little seam marks will pop out over time so nothing to worry about.

As stumped says, try to use an older ball if you can.

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

old trick but u can get dents out of soft wood by ironing it over a tea towel! But I've never seen the point! Seem marks are more like medals that soldiers have wear them with pride!

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

Yeah, the reason I bought a new ball was because I didn't have one!! But yeah, I'll use the thickest socks I can find :p

Interesting idea, wouldn't the heat damage the bat?? And yeah, as long as it's not long term damage I don't see any problem with leaving them there.

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

its more of a trick for furniture! But does work! Heat is fine as long as its not constant! Water is woods worst enemy!

The Slazenger bag to lug it all around!

Re: Post Pictures of your Kit!

Yeah, I've never envied keepers with all the kit they have to cart around. Bowlers really just need a good set of bowling spikes and maybe a drying rag.
