True.

However even you would agree that dull and boring go hand in hand with each other yes?

I actually never said you posted it it just rolled of my fingers, apologies.

Sorry I don't understand what you mean by this?

I mean that I wasn't a member of this forum so I couldnt say south africa were in a form slump.

Hopefully James can actually score some runs.

Not sold on Hauritz. DUSS does a good enough job.

It is hard to score runs coming in at 8 though.

Re: South Africa in Australia

The Australian squad for Friday's ODI @ the S.C.G is:

Shaun Marsh, David Warner, Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Hussey, David Hussey, Cameron White, Brad Haddin (wk), James Hopes, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Nathan Bracken, Ben Hilfenhaus, Shaun Tait.

Mitchell Johnson coming back in.

My prefered line-up would be:

Warner
Marsh
Ponting (c)
D Hussey
M Hussey
White
Haddin (wk)
Johnson
Hauritz
Bracken
Tait

Insightful, thanks for that.

Yet he has chances to score in both games and has failed.

Opens for Qland in the T/20 so you would actually know he can wield the willow.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Can't see Hopes getting dropped, hasn't done a lot wrong and I can't see the Australian selectors picking four genuine fast bowlers. Despite Johnson playing that would leave the tail a bit weak and a lot of the sides now bat down to numbers eight and nine meaning more opportunity to score runs (e.g Albie Morkel). I'd leave him there, all Hopes has to do is score at a run a ball, if he could get 25 off 25 and take one or two wickets per game his job is well and truly done.

Hauritz is shit, don't rate him as a bowler at all. South Africa would love to see Hauritz in the side, Duminy, Kallis and Albie Morkel would take great delight in facing the Jesters Jaffle pies that Hauritz sends down. David Hussey does a reasonable job with the ball anyway and there's also Clarke to come back into the side, he will also bowl a few overs if a specialist spinner is not selected.

What I'd like to see is the selectors take a chance on one of the younger spinners, Aaron Heal or Xavier Doherty and play them. Both are pretty good one-day bowlers and are in decent form, why not give them a go? Even if they don't play against South Africa, blooding them against New Zealand would be the way to go, even more so if the final game or games are dead rubbers.

We'll probably see something like this,

Marsh
Warner
*Ponting
DJ Hussey
MEK Hussey
White
+Haddin
Hopes
Johnson
Bracken
Tait

What I'd like to see,

Marsh
+Gilchrist
*North
Pomersbach
Voges
Langer
+Ronchi
Johnson
Heal
Magoffin
Dorey

:D :D

Okay, for real this time,

Marsh
Warner
*Ponting
DJ Hussey
MEK Hussey
North
+Haddin
Johnson
Heal/Doherty
Bracken
Tait

Re: South Africa in Australia

Is Hauritz definitely getting a gig?

If then take Hauritz out and put Tait in.

Johnson would replace Hilfy you'd think

Re: South Africa in Australia

He is in the squad but not sure if he will actually get a game, thats just the line-up i would like to see.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Marsh
Warner
*Ponting
DJ Hussey
MEK Hussey
North
+Haddin
Johnson
Heal/Doherty
Bracken
Tait[/QUOTE]

This is a strong team, I would like to see White slot in there I think he has alot to offer in his big hitting style of play.

Young and inexperienced side struggled on a shit of a pitch, SA lost due to their gameplan, much different ;)

Anyway I notice the moron selectors have refused to release Hussey and White for the prelim, only logical explanation would be the GABBA is so shit right now they are worried about an injury, but really a week off and the next game in Sydney, not Perth or anything and they wont let em play, pathetic

Re: South Africa in Australia

I think White needs to do a more consistent job with the bat in ODI's to hold down a place, sure he made a few runs in the T20 but so far that hasn't translated into ODI form.

Re: South Africa in Australia

My team would be the exact same as postman pav's team except i would rather hilfy instead of hauritz. I reckon the South Africans would target hauritz and would probably get smashed. I like Hilfy alot to.:)
Johnson
Hilfenhaus
Bracken
Tait
is a fair boling attack.

Exactly and that is why I think he is being wasted at number 8.

No need to be pandantic about it.

He is the bowling attack.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Would maybe bat him at 7 but thats it.

Would be a waste to bat him in higher in the Australian lineup. @|

Disagree sorry. He is a very good opener in the shorter format him amd Marsh have opened together before and took attacks apart in the IPL. I think he could do a very good job opening the batting. And this option will be considered if Warner can't hit some runs in the next 2 games.

Re: South Africa in Australia

I think it will be rather interesting to see how Johnson goes in the odis.

Personally I hope he gets hit to all parts. :p

I think Hopes should be picked over Hauritz I don't know why everyone dislikes him so much.

If the bowling attack had Johnson, Bracken and Hopes there is 3 bowlers the proteas will stuggle to hit for runs. If Hauritz is in there then there are 2 and if Mitchel Johnson gets belted then it will be very tough for Australia to win.

Hopes over Hauritz IMO.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Here are the probable line ups for the 3rd odi at the SCG tommorow:
Australia:
1. S. Marsh
2. D. Warner
3. R. Ponting (c)
4. M. Clarke
5. M. Hussey
6. D. Hussey
7. B.Haddin
8. C. White
9. M. Johnson
10. N. Hauritz
11. S. Tait

South Africa:
1. H. Gibbs
2. H. Amla
3. J. Kallis
4. A.B. De Villiers
5. J.P. Duminy
6. N. Mckenzie
7. M. Boucher
8. A. Morkel
9. J Botha (c)
10. M. Morkel
11. M. Ntini

With Johnson in the side we don't really need Hopes all that much.

My Lineup:

Marsh
Warner

D.Hussey
M.Hussey
White
Haddin+

Hilfenhaus

You must be joking.

Surely a poster of your knowledge and maturity would include the worlds best ODI bowler in that lineup?

M.Clarke is ruled out of the ODI series also.

Clarke has been ruled out of the remainder of the South African series due to his injured thumb needing more rest after Friday night's series-opening loss to the Proteas

Warner in as Clarke succumbs to injury - Cricket - Sport - theage.com.au

Unless that article is telling untruths of course.....

Re: South Africa in Australia

I don't mind that line-up Breeno but depending on the pitch i would like a spinner (I don't think D.Hussey & White count).

Re: South Africa in Australia

The article is correct

Hilfenhaus is out for the Aussies, Harris back to QLD and Johnson into the 12, otherwise same side from Hobart

Re: South Africa in Australia

I agree with Ljp, this is my side.

Marsh
Warner
*Ponting
DJ Hussey
MEK Hussey
North
+Haddin
Johnson
Heal
Bracken
Tait

Hopes is a much better batsman than Johnson and Hopes is a handy bowler he would do a better job than Haurtiz IMO.

I would still like to be more convinced on Heal's bowling ability.

As long as the top order don't throw it away we will be right with Johnson over Hopes.

Those are some pretty impressive figures. Heal's having a great summer so far and will only get better. A real chan ce to play one-day cricket for Australia in the next couple of seasons as is Xavier Doherty from Tasmania.

We've got to give these guys a go.

If South Africa had taken this cautious attitude Duminy never would have played.

You have to take risks to get the rewards.

It is hard to score runs coming in at 8 though.

Re: South Africa in Australia

Warner for me could be a massive over hyped kid that will just faid into obscurity. Sure the 20-20 innings was just awesome but I don't believe he deserved a chance at the 50 over game straight away. He is young, little first class cricket games and there are people in front of him from other states.

Klinger, Carseldine, Hodge, North........

Poor kid the media has wrecked his career, just completely wrecked it.

Duminy wouldn't have played though if Prince hadn't have broken his thumb!

Don't credit them with having balls for picking him, when he has only been a fringe player who only played tour games for something like three tours in a row! ;)

Re: South Africa in Australia

Game 3 is underway, Tait and Hauritz come in for Hilfenhaus and White. South Africa have made no changes.

Australia XI: Shaun Marsh, David Warner, *Ricky Ponting, David Hussey, Michael Hussey, +Brad Haddin, James Hopes, Mitchell Johnson, Nathan Hauritz, Nathan Bracken, Shaun Tait

South Africa XI: Herschelle Gibbs, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis, AB de Villiers, Jean-Paul Duminy, Neil McKenzie, +Mark Boucher, Albie Morkel, *Johan Botha, Dale Steyn, Makhaya Ntini

Australia are off to a good start, 0/33 from 5.2 overs. Warner's going off early, 26 from 17 with 3 fours and a six. Marsh is 4 from 15.
