South Africa in Australia

Re: South Africa in Australia

Another rubbish effort from Australia. The middle order has been terrible, giving the side absolutely nothing at the moment and it's putting a fair amount of pressure on Hopes and the tail. After the top two or three bats we have nothing at the moment, The Husseys appear to have a minimal amount of form, Haddin has done very little as did White when he was there.

It shows just how crucial Michael Clarke is to the Australian side, he would be jumping at the chance to play as he knows he's in good form and is very capable of scoring runs in this format. Clarke holds the side together and his batting has been sorely missed. They've got to bring in another player to help solidify the middle order, Marcus North would be the perfect player to add to the side, it would at least give the team some stability as well as someone who can play a few shots to counter-attack.

Didn't see the bowling tonight but it looks like it was crap with the exception of Bracken who is our only good bowler at this point. Johnson's return was ordinary, Tait was all over the shop and Hauritz bowled four and twenty's. At least Hopes was able to stem the tide somewhat.

Fielding looks to be what really hurt too. Can't afford to drop catches at this level, especially numerous opportunities. Tait might find himself out for the next game with Hilfenhaus maybe coming back in. Australia seemed to do a lot better without a specialist spinner which is a little surprising. I'm surprised David Hussey wasn't thrown the ball when the others were taking a bit of damage.

Duminy has been dominating South African domestic cricket for 3 years now and has a tremendous first class average. Putting Duminy in the side was never a gambe as he obviously had the talent to suceed where as Heal's inclusion would be a gamble that is the difference.

I can guarantee Heal wouldn't have bowled the garbage that looked to be served up tonight. Heal is a solid one-day bowler who is getting better with every season he plays. His average of about 25 this season is one of the best in the competition and is definitely one of the best in terms of domestic spinners. I'd even go for Xavier Doherty also who also looks promising.

I've never rated Hauritz and tonight looks like he had a poor game. Considering he is a specialist one-day player and plays at the SCG often, you'd think he would have bowled better than he did tonight.

I understand that but the inclusion of Heal in the Australian side is a bigger risk than Duminy in the test side. I was saying that it was not a good comparison.

Panesar in the England side or something along the lines would have been a more valid comparison.

Re: South Africa in Australia

SA could use him in the field though, Boucher is a big loss regardless of who comes in to replace him behind the stumps.

Not as big a loss of Bracken though.

South Africa can play the same without Boucher, but many people including myself are doubting Australia can play the same without Bracken.

Edited for accuracy.

Don't be so down it takes a true champion too pull himslef up from the lows.

Anyway even if they do lose defeat is character building.

That's what Collingwood said when they lost two grand finals in a row.

Re: South Africa in Australia

I can see him taking 5 for though.

I wish we bowled first, so Tait could hurt De Villiers again, then RSA have no wicket keeper.

The pressure is now very much on Johnson. I wouldn't be that much of a defeatist though.

If i tip an Australian win you'll just bag me if we lose so i've gone for the other approach. :)

Re: South Africa in Australia

Australia have lost two early wickets here, but they have a comfortable run rate ATM. Hussey and Ponting can not afford to go in their shells here. This pitch is a belter and they need to set something close to 300.

Didn't even appeal properly when he caught Ponting :)

Well he appealed and it was out. He has been keeping well and unforunatley for you a keeper is judged on his wicket keeping skill not how convincing his appeal is.

Not a big fan of Aussie rules but they won a premiership recently didn't they ? or they came close any way.

Re: South Africa in Australia

This is a woeful batting performance by Australia, will be lucky to last the 50 overs.

I wouldn't bag you anyway. There's no need for it. :)

Haven't won in 50 years. As Breeno said they lost two Grand Finals in a row.

He was joking, no need to be so sour.

umpire said not out. couldnt see the hot spot either

Re: South Africa in Australia

Those commentators were talking about Gibbs like he is one of the best batsman ever.

He's a good batsman but there are many better. They don't get that carried away when commentating about Ponting, Kallis and others. Just because he hits boundaries doesn't mean they have to go crazy about him.
