South Africa tour England

Re: South Africa tour England

Strong day for all the English bowlers!

Good to see Stuey Broad picking up a deuce. Question for the English viewers - How has Jimmy Anderson been bowling? Checking out the stats, and his consistency seems to have picked up a bit this series. Hasn't been destructive, but second in the wicket tally to Morkel and his stats seem strangely Matthew Hoggard like - 32 avg, 2.8 rpo, 69 strike rate. Strike rate could do with a bit of an improvement - but those figures seem to point to a growing consistency, even if it'd be nice if wickets were a bit cheaper. So has he been threatening? Good spots, bad luck? Or has he just been okay?

Re: South Africa tour England

Jimmy is definitely improving as a bowler. He's got the same amount of swing as he always had, but the difference is, he's starting to gain control. He's still over-pitching from time to time, but by and large, he's just much more consistent.
I just hope he can keep this up, as he's starting to look much more like the player he promised to be when he burst onto the scene. He's swinging it big and late, he's moving it both ways, he's hostile, and he's getting it down there at around 88mph, which isn't slow by any means.

Added 1 hour(s), 25 minute(s) and 52 second(s) later...

With all the love in the world to the guy, how on earth has Ntini got 3 wickets? He doesn't seem to be doing anything with the ball, he's nowhere near as quick as he used to be, and most of it is well outside off - yet somehow three of our top four have given him their wicket by fishing outside off stump to balls that should have been left well alone.
We managed to get South Africa out yesterday by bowling very well. Let's be honest, no-one in the SA attack looks particularly dangerous today - Morkel has faded fast since the second test, Steyn's injured, and Ntini isn't the bowler he used to be. Nel is... well, just Nel. He's mental. There should be a 350+ for the taking today if we bat sensibly and stop giving wickets away.

Re: South Africa tour England

KP just brought up his 50.

England 143/3, looks like they will get a handy lead.

Re: South Africa tour England

I think the poms are in with a good shake. they play a lot of odi cricket at home and glad that Colly isn't playing due to that cock up against the kiwis..

I just hope we see Prior make some runs

Re: South Africa tour England

Seems like a good game developing. Patel gets a wicket in his first over then gets taken off!

Good partnership by KP and Freddy, something England tend to lack most of the time in this format of the game.

Re: South Africa tour England

All over and the KP reign gets a second win. Some good yorkers by Flintoff at the end there.

England win by 20 runs.

Re: South Africa tour England

Was just watching it, a quality Game!

Kp for One Day Captain! How can Colly come back as skipper now?

Re: South Africa tour England

KP is ODI captain as well you [insert insulting swear word].

Surprised we won so convincingly. Some interesting moves there by Pietersen, like taking off Anderson, but keeping Broad on and also bowling himself!

He won't - he resigned the same time as Vaughn.

I was sure I put the 'a' in, nevermind.

Is Harmison only back in the one day team for the potential pay day?

Re: South Africa tour England

Freddies back!
good win by england, can they keep it up though?
Not sure about Harmison, he apparently came out of ODI retirement because england needed him..

Added 9 minute(s) and 43 second(s) later...

He has also demonstrated his great powers of persuasion to tempt Steve Harmison into reversing his decision to retire from one-day international cricket and answer England's call to end his two-year exile and return for the five-match series.

Bit from cricket australia website about KP's influence,

Re: South Africa tour England

South Africa are just a bunch of losers, especially after what they did. The most childish thing, avoid the champions trophy due to a few blasts which happen in all countries. Rubbish.
