Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

This match is all over, Australia have won it easy, maybe even by an innings.

SL made a silly call at the toss and are paying for it now. Maybe they should play there best team and not hunches.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

Something a little different for you all:

Brett Lees fastest balls in his opening spell were-
149.9 149.4

Comment:
It's very rare to see someone go past the 150km/h barrier in their first test match, let alone their first over in test cricket. 'Wild and woolly'.....Wild speed, but a little woolly with the delivery (by Australian standards).

A selection of Test debut fastest balls-

S Jones 148.9
B Lee 154.1
S Bond 142.3
M Ngam 148.4
M Sami 143.0
D Steyn 147.6
S Tait 151.0
M Johnson 150.3 (not completed)

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

One thing I think that Australia will miss was the ability of Warne (and McGrath to some extent) to almost will a wicket out of nowhere.

With those two gone, I think we'll see more teams posting decent partnerships but time will tell!

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

finally a wicket for macgill. lee gets another plumb. they are almost finished now. the quicks have been awesome.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

Australia batted really great. Awesome innings by Jaques, Hussey and Clarke and Symonds batted well too. We backed it up with great bowling as well.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

Australia are fully outclassing Sri Lanka. Scoring more runs and taking more wickets with more disciplined bowling.

Australia seem the better Test team all round. Their batsmen are better at stonewalling and attacking all with great aesthetic qualities and their fast bowlers are clearly quicker with more accuracy. And this is not to mention Australia's great fielding compared with Sri Lanka's poor effort. The only area where Sri Lanka seem to have the advantage is through having the better spinner but on this surface, it does not seem like it will mean much in this match.

Jolly good stuff finding those figures. I would have expected to see Akhtar there but perhaps his debut was a tad too early.

I would have thought he'd be up there but like you said, his début may have been too early.

I thought Bond would have been 5/6kph quicker but it goes to show that at the moment Australia have at least 3 bowlers capable of breaking the 150kph barrier.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

i hope it does. they are batting fine now the bowlers need to pick up their game. jayawardene was a crucial wicket. i reckon the match should be over by the end of the day.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

I thought they would be all out soon but Micheal Vandort is playing well. They could draw it but that would be ver tough.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

The weather could save Sri Lanka here. Vaas is no mug with the bat but these two need to stick around for a few hours.

Re: Sri Lanka vs Australia

Sri Lanka will be hoping that Silva and Vaas stick around and rain comes soon again. I can't see them drawing the match unless weather saves them, but Sri Lanka might be able to make the Aussies bat again as they are only 66 runs behind.
