yeah hes not going to overtake warney on australian soil. we should get them under 300 and make them follow on and then if they make us bat again it shouldnt be anything more that 50-100. the best bet for sri lanka is to save the match.
Sri Lanka have lost 2 quick wickets and it looks like its going to be the same old story. Could have been 3 if not for the dropped catch by Gilchrist. They have their 2 best batsmen in the middle currently and they need a huge partnership from them.
yeah this partnership is their last hope the others arent as good. that was brilliant catch by clarke to dismiss atapattu. shame gilly dropped sangakkara as hes looking good now.
Mahela Jayawardene has put up a good performance. He's just 3 away from his first century against Australia. Australia would want to get rid of the tail enders soon and have a crack at the Sri Lankans again. Sri Lanka needs at least 2-3 batsmen to come good if they have to put up any fight in this Test match.
nah they've decided against enforcing the follow on to give the bowlers some rest and the pitch is still good for batting so they arent letting sri lanka use it. i hope haydos gets a big one.
Jaques continues his impressive run with the bat with a fifty. Murali needs 5 more wickets to get past Warne. I'm pretty sure that won't happen in this match. Australia will be looking for another 100-150 runs before declaring. I guess it'll come before lunch tomorrow.
So, despite the ton from Jayawarden, Sri Lanka were still rolled for under 246.
Surprised that Ponting decided against the follow-on but he knows the fitness of his players and I don't think that it's going to have an effect on the outcome.
As AB says above, bat until lunch or just after, add another 100 or 150 runs then have 5 sessions to bowl Sri Lanka out for a second time.
this has been a poor series. no competition at all but atleast sri lanka managed to cross 200. id love to see what happens to india. their batting is better than sri lanka but they are in for a really hard time as well.
Sangakkara and Atapattu are playing quite comfortably out there. If they don't lose more than 1-2 wickets today they might have a good chance of saving the test. This is where Australia's new attack will be tested.
I'm a bit surprised that Murali was unable to break Warne's record. He didn't get much support from others and Australians played pretty well against.
awesome bowling by lee. great bouncer to atapattu and a big inswinging yorker and jayawardene didnt have a clue about it. he should have at least played a shot at it but he totally misjudged it. the sitution has changed so quickly for sri lanka lol.
Yeah I think he should have played at it. Due to the angle with which Lee was bowling the ball was always coming in.
It has been a good day for Sri Lanka. They are still in with a chance to win this match. However, things can change very quickly tomorrow. They are only 1-2 wickets away from a collapse. The two batsmen out there have a tough job on their hands tomorrow. I think it will be a win for Australia, but Sri Lanka have put up a fight which was unexpected.
The best that Sri Lanka can hope for is the draw, although 260 in a day is possible, you'd have to say that chasing 507 is pretty unlikely on a 5th day pitch. A lot will depend on Sangakkara and Jayasuriya - if they can hang around until lunch, then who knows?
they came closer than i thought. lee gets the player of the series award. hes bowled really well as the spearhead of the attack and 16 wickets in two matches proves that.
