The BaggyGreens Thread

Smashed the Scots in T20 now the Poms in game one. Ok it was a decent win but selectors how is Abbott seen as a better all rounder, in both formats, than Aaron Hardie.. Pity Nathan Ellis is not here as we now lack a potent deathie.

To be fair Sean Abbott is more a bowler that can bat. Although I’m still not a massive fan of his bowling anyway.

He was arguably our worst bowler in the Scotland series.

Bartlett is injured now too.

I've only been there for the footy a few times but no cricket, facility is world class.

I’ve watched the Perth scorchers play and the test match against Pakistan. It’s an exceptional stadium to watch cricket at.

The only problem I have with us getting the first test is it’s not school holidays yet and people love to complain that we don’t get as many people to test matches as other states.

You copped some flack over this last year with poorer than expected crowds. Stadia the size of Perths need to be mostly full to be looking their best. If and when I ever visit Perth I will wanna fit in at least one day of a Test match or a Shield match at this stadium.

Domestic season is underway with the oh so tedious 50 overs in play. Red ball starts on Oct 8.
You more of a T20 man Richie? Why do you find the 50 overs a tedious format? I'm loving the current series with your lot here in the UK. Watching live right now and it looks like the Aussies are on for the win, Smith just survived an LBW shout from a Potts ball.

Just that I find 50 overs probably 10 overs too long Dave.

Yes Aussies win the series thanks to some inept spin play by your blokes. The ball was turning so why didn't they use their feet to meet the pitch and negate the turn.

The thing is when you start leaving your crease you’re at way bigger risk of getting stumped. If the ball is turning then you’re bound to play and miss at a couple and it only takes one minor misjudging of length to miss a ball and get out.

Not saying using your feet is wrong, but it’s a very risky way to play, especially if you’re doing it consistently, allowing the bowler to throw one out wide when you try step down.

Am currently following the first Test of the U19 Aussies v India tour after India won the 50 over games. Watched the same Aust/England series last year, played in both countries. Did you catch this Dave and Doc?

Yes Doc but do it occasionally to show the bowler he is not in charge. Only plonking your front foot down the crease and hoping your bat with meet ball safely is asking for trouble. Travis Head is as good a spinner as Michael Clarke and Allan Border were, but the Pom bats made him look like a Shane Warne.

Yeah I agree, Head is weirdly good at being a golden arm bowler. But there is no way he should ever be taking 4 wickets IN ENGLAND.

Yeah I love it playing and watching. In the league we used to play in 50 overs and timed games were the format, meant on occasions I'd bowl 14 overs. Had a game where one bloke bowled all the overs from one end. Crap these days with the Mickey mouse short game (40 over) we're limited to 8 overs. No idea what was going on in that game. England blow hot and cold.

There was talk at the start of the year of reducing ODI's to 40 overs a side.

I completely agree with it.

So was I, but wasnt going to happen as 50 overs was the ICC 'cash cow' at that time.
In a 40 over game would you cut the max bowling over allocation down to 8 instead of 10?

I'd be tempted to keep it at 10, we want to see the best bowlers the most and the 10 overs squeezed in with a couple of part time trundlers with the field on the fence is often the dullest period of the match.

Honestly I think the 10 overs of allrounder/part timer stuff can be really fun. It’s also often the point where the match can turn on its head.

I love watching Head and Labuschagne come on and roll the arm over.

I think needing 5 bowlers worth of overs spices up the game a bit more. With 4 bowlers you need way less team balance and allrounders are basically pointless. Imo it would get a little stagnant.
