So was Sydney until the start of this month, before a 10 day static low pressure rain system perched off our coast made my lawns go beserk.

I wonder what the new weather norms will be Craig, or will they keep changing as Global Warming keeps warming?
I hear in Perth we'll get less rain and it'll be hotter and drier?
Crystal ball gazing to a degree but that weather suits me for a climate change, no sea change needed for me.
As an aside, I hear cries of woe from the East, especially Tassie, that my WA is getting back an overly generous 70% of its own GST which is deemed excessive by jealous others.Some big cooperations here pay no tax which is the bigger sin imho. Another Morrison legacy from when he gave WA voters a sweetener. What a top guy now buddying up with Trump and his cronies.
Maybe we should shut the borders again and declare ourselves an independant state with Prince Harry and Meghan our regents.

Some of our giant Karri forests in the SW corner of WA are starting to die off from lack of rain. That is sad.Sounds almost apocalyptic Terry, Mad Max territory.
I tolerate the heat ok and my evaporative air conditioner is cheap to run and perfect for hot dry weather. Two thirds of lawns about me are brown and dead. Mine is lush and green as I made a decision to mow it much longer, and can afford to still water it. Many can't afford the water with 'cost of living' pressures which is understandable.

You mean "summer", don't you since winter is now behind us. Here in Germany we've enjoyed the first spells of summer with temps reaching nearly 30° in spring. Now we've been having lovely spring weather as most people like it, temps being around 20°. In the western part, however, there've been the first floods after heavy thunderstorms again causing severe damage while it's been too dry again where I live. No drama so far but summer hasn't started yet.
It needs to be said, though, that whatever happens we'll benefit from a wet winter with quite some rainfall during the last six months but the overall balance is still negative, i.e., billions of litres of rain are still missing compared to the average precipitation of the last decades. That's the result of satellite observations and measurements. The rainfall over the winter months has led to the surface being sufficiently humid up to a depth of two metres but soil moisture lower than that and groundwater levels are still lower than necessary.
That might answer your question as well,

I expect that to happen here as well, Terry. I don't water the lawn, though, nor do my shrubs and woody plants get the water they'd need. Although I have a irrigation system in large parts of my garden I don't use it anymore since it uses drinking water from the public water supply. We've just decided to get most of the woody plants like cypresses, conifers, and shrubs removed in autumn for they'll dry out anyway.

That reminds me of the polar lights that could be seen for the first time ever.
And there'll be a funfair for the first time since Corona again, which is just a stone's throw away from my home. No comparison to Sydney, though.

Yeh we are kinda proud of Vivid Sydney. Is designed to keep alive the Harbor City at the start of winter. It has become so popular with locals and tourists alike that it seems to be even more spectacular every year. The water and drone displays are something else. I had my big VS treat last year with a harbor cruise...

We're experiencing our first rains in Perth since last year. Still lots of Azure blue skies. Winter starts in less than a week, and the Summer in the northern hemisphere.

I hope your Summer is not a scorcher.
I have succulent Jade plants scattered around my garden that hardly need any water. In Winter they throw out gorgeous small flowers as well. I've also got Cacti in pots that are slowly growing.
My dog used to pee on one despite my warnings to him, for his own sake!
We get the odd fireworks or light show here in Perth but they don't interest me much sorry to say. My daughters loved them as kids.

I see there's a new cyber attack, most likely from the devious and spiteful chinese having been told to divest their shares in an Aussie Rare Earths mining venture that supplies materials for EVs. Typical of nasty childish reactions from our devious big trading partner not getting their way.
