The Serious Discussion Thread.

Was it because of the economy as is common knowledge socialists are not the best economic managers.
That sounds like a myth. What they really mean is: Whoever pursues a policy favouring employees, allegedly doesn't know anything about the economy. Those who favour the rich allegedly understand economic policies.

And nobody knows why in Germany given that our economy is going to suffer tremendously from Trump's plans.
So sorry to hear that Thomas.
There will be ripples of change from an unpredictable trumpet.

I wish your Germany well in weathering this storm, and all the other turmoil happening. Europe needs a strong Germany.

There's so much chatter now about Trump's total win, it's almost overwhelming. Europe and especially Ukraine are worried, Putin's still grumpy, China's stoic, ... At least the stock markets rose.
....and Putin must remain grumpy for the following reason: For too long a time Putin has tacitly accepted the narrative that he and Trump were buddies, real men and hard guys with an emphasis on testosterone-laden masculinity since he liked the image. Yet that was before the war in Ukraine. Now he dismisses that image because it runs counter to a more important narrative, the old notion that the US are Russia's arch-enemy, which he badly needs for justifying the war against Ukraine.

I just heard today Putin did congratulate Trump on his victory.
That surprised me.😳
Nevertheless Putin praised Trump's courage after the first assassination attempt. 😎
I wonder what Putin's scheming, and if the Bromance is back on?

I'll give it to Trump, in that moment he was courageous.

The last image was the one I had in mind. :thumbsu:
The point is: How did he congratulate him? In Germany the word "warmly" was dropped unanimously. He definitely was courageous.

I heard today on the Aussie Health Report with Dr Norman Swan another silly edict that Trump promises to make.
He's going to stop having fluoride put into the US's water supply.

Countries that do that, with a few exceptions like Germany, end up with an almost toothless society. Kids of 8 having all their teeth pulled said one Dentist. With many factors in play like kids consuming excessive amounts of sugar, ...

The report went on to say how miniscule amounts of flouride in the water supply can toughen enamel preventing decay.
Toothpaste has 1000 times the concentration of fluoride and advanced first world societies like Germany that regularly brush are educated and take preventative dental routines gain little extra benefit from fluoride it their tap water. Fair enough.

I clean my teeth twice a day, had 3 wisdom teeth out and lost only one molar 35 years ago due to infection.
The rest are good bar one back molar that is feeling sensitive.
Maybe a filling, or a sinus issue...?

Trump thinks he is a genius and ignores real experts. He has nice white teeth too. For a genius business man he can't see the long term benefits that Medical Science offers. Silly billy!

As an extra bonus of fluoride in my taps, it helps my pets's teeth also.😊

Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur and campaign surrogate for former President Donald Trump, has given away $17 million to people who have signed a petition from his political action committee — despite a legal challenge to the sweepstakes that has now failed.
To win the money, the signee must be a registered swing state voter — and that criterion raised concerns that Musk may be in violation of a federal law that makes it illegal to pay people (or offer them an incentive) to either register to vote or cast a ballot.

Am I missing something here? As Elon Musk is a committed supporter of Trump and featured heavily in his campaign, isnt this so called 'sweepstakes' seen as bribery. $US17m for everyday Americans struggling with the hi cost of living, would certainly buy a lot of votes, maybe the amount Trump needed to give him the win. Then if so why aren't the Democrats jumping up and down calling this 'vote rigging.
Jeez, only in America could this be allowed to happen during an election.

Bribery and breaking laws seem common practice in the US Craig.
Hush money payments, starting riots, lobbyists paying bribes to senators, ... all seem ok for the Muga rich in the US, threats, stand over tactics of Electoral officials, ... it's like a third world country.

Some water filters can remove Flouride Craig, but not my German made Brita ones. Boiling the water won't get rid of the Flouride.
Thanks for info mate. Australia also makes ones that filter our fluoride, not sure tho whether we use one. Most of the water I give my Bonnie is boiled so she is still having the affects of fluoride. She also chews a large cow ear every day, so why does she still have traces of tartar on a few of her side back teeth? We now hand clean her teeth as having the vet do it costs and arm and a leg, specially if she has to be put under anaesthetic.

Ukraine will be wishing Germany is forced into an election soon and that the opposition party the Christian Democratic Union wins, as its leader Friedrich Merz wants to, first, lift long-range weapons restrictions, then provide Taurus missiles to Kyiv if Russian bombardments of civilian infrastructure continues. The Taurus which can strike 500km deep into Russia will be a huge boost to the morale of the Ukranian army and its people.

Thirty-four felony convictions. Charges of fraud, election subversion, and obstruction. The first former president to be convicted of a felony is now also the first convicted felon to be elected as president.

Only in America could this happen.

One major achievement by the US Democrats was to keep the hope of freedom alive for Ukraine following its illegal invasion by Russia. Trump on the other hand will sell Ukraine to Russia unless the EU steps in and grants Ukraine EU status and then doubles its current financial and military support to give it punch to reclaim its sovereign territory stolen by Putin.

Canine dental work is expensive indeed Craig. I too clean my dogs teeth for the cost involved. I have doggy toothpaste, little brushes and two finger gloves that work the best.

This below is my dogs dental kit. Note the electric toothbrush. 🤗
The epiotic fluid is for cleaning his ears.

The new age of Trump is unfolding with "You're Hired" going on now frantically with supplicants milling on Consumptive Potty Potus TRump's garish veranda. Here's some old and new picks.
More henchmen with views like Trump's. Fair enough but the back scratching and nepotism seems to be more important than expertise. And Trump's Vengeance list is as long too.
Vengeage is a dish best served cold say some.
Pro Israel, anti Global warming, trade wars, anti NATO, WHO, UN, ... Coal, gas and petrol stupidity, ... insatiable consumerism and greed. Fancy some golden Trump footwear?

Just when the world is teetering on severe climate changes due to global warming so many are Science Ignorant. Genius, my foot! Crikey, hasn't the obvious been seen with all the super hurricanes and tornadoes in the US's south, massive forest fires, floods, ...
As for Trump bringing peace to the world, he's dreaming!
Words are cheap and short lived to most. A silly thing to say when he's gunning for China. 60% tarriff on Chinese goods promised which I hope is good for Austrailia. We might wrangle a 10%tarriff if we sack our Potty mouthed Rudd. 😄 Send in our shirt fronting Abbot I say. 🤣

At least Trump is anti China, our biggest trading partner. Words have been said that if the US and China come to blows we Aussies should not be involved.
I doubt that?
We host so much US military infrastructure here for a start like the US nuclear subs near my city.
I don't mind that local deterrent of the US's.
As for AUKUS, another silly sub-stardard deal.

Merz's decision on medium-range missiles would not be undisputed since it would give Putin a reason or pretext to retaliate with a counterstrike on Germany as he said warning those countries delivering the missiles. 😕

Terry has similar concerns about not getting involved in a conflict between the two superpowers. What's wrong with AUKUS? I remember having read positive assessments from you and/or Craig?

Incidentally, have I been talking to ex-servicemen or did both of you not serve in the armed forces? If yes, where did you serve?

All rhetoric and bluster from Putin.. The moment he threatens Germany he knows he faces a furious and well prepared NATO. That is the last thing he wants as he knows the organisation with the powerful US at its helm is no Ukraine which has held off the Russian juggernaut for going on three years. His army is losing whole regiments in one day, some three thousand were killed in two days last week. He has to resort to bringing in reinforcements from North Korea, that tell us the dire state of his forces.
