The Serious Discussion Thread.

It is Syrian stolen by bloody Israel in 1967.
The Golan Heights is a rocky plateau in the Levant region of Western Asia that was captured by Israel from Syria in the 1967 Six-Day War. The international community, with the exception of Israel and the United States, considers the Golan Heights to be Syrian territory held by Israel under military occupation.
The Golan Heights has strategic importance, mostly from its altitude where sensors like radar can be much more effective. So Aunty told me. (ABC Thomas)

Israel is seeking to castrate Syria militarily which seems fair given the treats of Isis etc...
However it's illegal under international rules of law. You cannot attack another state thinking they may be a future threat.
Typical of Israel with their War Criminal PM breaking so many International rules. Especially Genocide and now Ethnic Cleansing in Gaza.
480 air strikes on Syrian military bases and research facilities in just 48 hours.
The US Arms brokers are no doubt rubbing their hands in glee.

Seems Netanyahu is now preoccupied with criminal trials against him. He has that in common with Trump. Trump will outlast him tho I bet.

💯 On top of the illegal air bombing the IDF has taken a strategic mountain location inside the demilitarized buffer zone. That is basicly declaring war on Syria. Turkeys Erdogan has condemned this and may take steps against Israel. I hope he does as in my view Turkey wont be rolled over like Lebanon or Syria as they have a powerful modern military and wont take any crap from the Jews. Notice, tho, Iran is staying silent over this incursion into Syria.

Add traitor to Trump's list of character flaws. This is by far the worst as he has condemned Ukraine firing US long range missiles into Russian territory and condoned Putins retaliation. All I can say is the Free World is in trouble with this bloke leading it.😡

Erdogan knows the Zionist regime has superior air power to Turkiye, so the moment he moves his far greater ground forces into Syria for an expected invasion the Jews will unleash their powerful air force including the latest F-35s stealth jets. But Erdogan has an ace up his sleeve, as he also knows he has not only troop and ordinance superiority but also naval, so should Turkiye release its navy at the same time it will spread the Zionist air power very thin and their navy does not even have an aircraft carrier which will be a huge negative. Their powerful ally America does have aircraft carriers, but Trump is saying that he wont involve the US in any further Middle East conflicts.

Exactly right. He should really know better and he does. He's not really interested in keeping NATO afloat despite recent improvements as regards European funding of it. You may have heard of the new hypersonic missile Oreshnik that Moscow fired on Dnipr in Ukraine the other day and against which, NATO says, there is no protection as the existing missile defence systems cannot intercept it. However, it should be recalled that Russia made similar claims about its Kinzhal missile before the full-scale escalation, while in fact several Kinzhals were shot down in Ukraine, mainly by Patriot air defence systems.
It shows, though, that saying Putin is a lunatic is too simplistic since he had the risk of escalation in mind: shortly before the launch, the US was notified via established risk reduction channels to ensure that Washington did not confuse the launch with an ICBM launch. This announced deployment of the new Russian missile shows that Moscow is still a rational, calculating actor.

Russia is still using Lataikia Airport in Syria, while Israel continues to occupy the demilitarized Mt Hermon in Syria part of the UN controlled buffer zone. Ok a silly question, where the effing hell are these so called UN peacekeepers.

What are your views on this guys.
As they will be released at least the Aussie taxpayer wont be footing the bill for their incarceration. I say they should be given house arrest and made to wear an ankle bracelet for the first 12 months.

That was a good read Craig. Cheers.
Indonesian criminal punishments on Drugs and trafficking are a lot tougher than ours. Fair enough, their country, their rules.
But life life and twenty years, by our standards, that's very harsh and I think these guys have more than done enough time by our codes of Law.
Still, fools they were, and immoral, to even try smuggling drugs as they did. I hope all the media about them rightly serves as a warning to others seeking an easy dollar.

He's a horrible man always ready to go on the offensive and no doubt lying through his teeth re the numerous charges against him. I heard him bleating his innocence several times and I loathe him even more now.
Surely he can't wriggle out of the many charges of a sordid past. Nine or ten witnesses have come forward. I hope he rots in jail if found guilty, which with so many charges and abused people is quite likely.

He was also instumental in firing up the Cronulla Riots.
Quote from the ABC:
Controversial broadcaster Alan Jones is under pressure to make a public apology after a court upheld a ruling that he incited hatred and vilified Lebanese Muslims in on-air comments made in the lead-up to the Cronulla riots.

I feel he is a great social liability and it'd be nice to see him imprisoned.

I see cracks already appearing in Trumpland. President Musk I hear chanted satirically. Their Reserve bank has put the global markets wobbling downwardsnot wanti g to lower rates. Aussie dollar and stock markets have dropped sharply witelling away at my own savings. 🤬 The saving grace is that our exports will become more competitive. I'm not sure on that given China's economic relative decline, and how Trump's induced inflation might affect global market's financially?
I speculate the US monetary system is considering the big inflation surge in the US that will happen when Trump's hard tariffs come into play. Again I speculate US bank interest rates will rise too. Others will follow.
With a weaker Aussie dollar now imports will cost more for us having an Inflationary affect upon Oz. Burugger! Inflation seems to spread like a virus, I think?
And let's not forget about his promised tax cuts to the Rich. 🤫
Meanwhile the poor unwashed masses will struggle with living costs. 🫤
I thought his supporter base was the down trodden blue collar workers? 🤔
Only paraphrashing here, but some say the Democrats lost their blue collar support with some sort of intellectual elitism and ignored their original base. I heard that. Then in steps a populist spruiker promising a wonderland. Hmm¿¡
A bit simplistic and my focus is fuzzy.
Are these elites the "Deep State" so often ranted about...? I dunno. 🤔

So many promises and denials too, even blatant lies, criminal charges, ....
Will he end all the Wars and be like the new come Messiah to save the World as I once heard him infer? Just the usual blather? 🥱

I once read the book 'Down and out in Paris and London' by George Orwell.
It is a 1933 memoir that documents his experiences of poverty in two European cities.🍟🍔🍟🍕🍟🥞🍟

Incidentally Thomas you inspired me to read a book again, made out of paper, cardboard with printed words. It was a family novel during the hard times of the Potato famine in Ireland. Hard times indeed ~ 1846 and on. 🥔🥕🥔🧅🥔🫘🥔🥬🥔

My State of Western Australia rightly claims the accolade of being the economic power house of the country/continent of Australia even having only about 10% of the Nation's population, yet about a third the land mass of our little continent. About 4 times the area of Texas. 🌏
And still we boom further with an AUKUS submarine US base already being set up in the SW environs of my Perth. I live in the NE. Nuclear subs with employed Sandgropers (a very ugly undergrond grasshoper type monstrous insect 🦗that squirts black yuk used as a nasty comparison to malign Western Australians, due to envy or beer no doubt🍺, or both.) being trained in the dark arts of Nuclear Science and cleaning out the heads of subs. Well paid jobs even attracting our distant Eastern migatory cousins a continent away.

I too see many excellent Stagegic reasons why my City of Perth should be guardians of Australia's Western, Northen, Southern and on coastal borders.
China is a bad Actor in our region to put it put bluntly. The peril to the North we wisely recognise as do our US and UK allies... and France? Certainly most other democrasied regional nations are in accord.

Housing projects getting multiple green lights too to house the many personel involved in a major National Defense initiative in southern Perth environs. 🤫.

We also now have the highest rents of any Australian city.😒House prices are going through the roof too, like mine. 💸💸💸
What recession? Yet some families here have trouble feeding their children. Monstrously inflated prices in an incredibly short supplied housing market. A Covid hangover? 🥴

EEK! Not a fish that lives on the seabed Terry?

Really. Get started on it before Trump puts a stop to AUKUS, or simply makes it AUK. Personally I'd not be bothered if we didnt have nuke powered subs. Too expensive and full completion is decades away. If the Yanks do leave the alliance we need to get Japan and South Korea on board. India too. Then instead of nuke, jointly develop hydrogen cell or electric powered subs if cheaper and faster to build.

How did I manage that?🤔
I regularly watch a detective series set in Ireland and N-Ireland "Borderline" and enjoy the local colour.

Hi Thomas, a while back both you and I were talking about how we didn't read much fiction which got me thinking I should, so I did. It was a lovely gentle tale which I greatly enjoyed.

I must admit I haven't watched any of the Border line series. It sounds good.
In the sixties my parents would often drive over the border from Ulster to Southern Ireland to buy cheaper groceries.
