I agree that is a great sledger and a good drinker off the field, not sure about this 1,000 runs claim though. Statistics show that 82.5% of Armstrong's runs come from over Cow Corner, not sure about the longevity in playing that type of game. Not too many players make 1,000 in a season and if they even got close they would have a lot better temperament than Armstrong. Menzies was the one who always looked the best bat in that side and his 130 odd last round supports that.

Anyway Willy are flying under the new skipper so I guess they laugh last.

Well 1000 runs is hardly an arbitrary figure for success! Just a pluck really. Admittedly I havent seen Churches cricket in a few years, and last played against CA about 4 years ago, but I will stand by the fact he should make plenty. Even with his obvious technical and temperamental flaws, he has a good eye and I dont imagine much heat or movement being served up in A turf churches.

As I said originally, I wouldnt want him coming in to bat for you when you are 4-20 on a sticky.

Mick Menzies always a better player than CA - but that probalby illustrates that cricket and particularly batting, is played between the ears!

Yeah, he probably does'nt value his wicket as much these days, but lets give credit where credit is due.
I remember him as a young bat who could play every shot in the book and play them well he did. He went to footscray premier club but was unable to meet the demands expected of premier cricketers as he had a young family as I recall.

He arrived at sunshine druids and in a semi-final match v's sunshine united when the s.c.a. competition was at it's height. I had the privelege of witnessing one of the best hundreds I've ever seen in 30 years of watching cricket at our level.

Sunshine United had a bowling attack that used to hunt in packs, who gave you nothing. Most sides that played them were lucky if they could scratch out 180 runs in an innings.

On this occasion druids made around 220 of which chris armstrongs contribution was around 110. Sushine united's bowlers knew he was druids best bat and they gave him nothing all day. Bowling short of a length around the line of off stump. Chris with not much back lift was forced to squeeze balls out of his stumps all day picking up one's and two's with hardly a boundary. The memory of that innings has stayed with me for years.

Certainly got plenty of shots. Sounds like it was a great knock.

mickeybee, i dont think this is a true indication. Yeah i agree most of these players should be in the top bracket, but the reward for a 50 or 5 fa for example are too great. Eg - if you make 47 you get 4.7 pts but if you make 50 you get 10 pts (5 pts bonus for the 50). same as 4 fa compared to 5 fa. I think this is why there can be such differences even if players stats are similar. Also - when some teams get a 2nd hit, or bowl again they increase their pts. I'd look more at the top batting and bowling stast (and ave's) and a clearer indication.

Although i do agree brown has had a great start. He did get 4 fa and 66 in the 2nd dig though in a loss!!

I noticed that as well..

He played 4 less games than Baker, and 5 less than the doutta boys.. And he was pretty impressive when we played him..

Nice guy from what I can remember.. Actually all of the McKinnon boys were good.. Did he leave for $, or maybe wanted a change? Also, Rutley was a fair way down the order in that list..

Agree, at the end of the year, this list will be pretty accurate..

Dunno, but I want to know A.S.A.P.. Will go to Dunkeld races, but need to leave tonight..

When would we find out, and does anyone have any inside info?

Would love to play, but Dunkeld would be heaps of fun.

Dont know about calling the weekend off? Got a belter of a track ready to go at Spotty. Got covers down last nite at 7 so should still be good, unless rain has run under them, which did happen last week. Watched Bronca bowl into a massive wet patch on a length!! I am sure he enjoyed it!!

Who else got their covers down in snr div last night before the rain????? Grounds that didnt will surely be a bit dodgy, and will then again make for a vital toss to win! Wouldnt like to see one of the games between the top few sides decided on the toss as per Sth Caul/A-West last week.

Doutta's excuses for the loss to Hampton included;
1. Lost the toss
2. Shit wicket prepared by cheats
3. Injuries
4. Rebuilding with 2 sixteen year-olds

And you obviously haven't seen the RPB side lately if you reckon they lack class. I agree APW have plenty but RPB have a fair bit too Contessa, Hillas, Maurice.

Your comments are either meant as a troll or you are indeed an idiot!!

RPB had 2 of those last year and didnt even make the finals.
1 extra player all of a sudden makes them premiership material ?
APW batsman will have a field day against that attack (assuming covers were on).
As for Douttas, playing 3 teenagers isnt an excuse agreed although SC and Hampton both won toss n bowled at home so that does say a bit about the tracks.

RPB would have made finals last year Bakers but they lost points over covers. APW have got a few gun players so it will be interesting to see where some of these sides are at. Keilor v Y/C game will also see where those sides are at. Porter against his old mate Bronca will be a great battle! Jody v Bakes same
