Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Jeez, was the pitch staying low? Actually, now that I think about it, 8 of the dismissals in our game were bowled too (from 20 total wickets)

No it was synthetic lmfao.

Shit batting, as I said they were trying to pull full balls.

The other ones were just from a little nibble off the seam.

Yeah we should, especially considering we’re the highest level team at the club, yet imo we have the worst fielding.

Our problem comes from more than half the team not coming to trainings. We have 4 good Pakistani blokes that live up in the city and play T20s up there all year, so they don’t come down and train, and then everyone else that doesn’t come has to work.

That being said, 3 or 4 of the 5 blokes (excluding me) that come to training were the ones dropping catches. The captain dropped 3.

Our playing coach was rightfully pissed, I get along well with him and after I finished my spell he was already annoyed but then he had one dropped at long on in his first over and he completely lost his shit.

That's a shame, hopefully you guys can improve your fielding throughout the season. Also, if you wanna see a good offbreak delivery, look at Bumrah's ball to Rizwan from yesterday. Peach.

Oh right haha. Oh well. That's no good, imagine what they'd be like on turf.... At least then you'll be picking up some wickets cause the ball actually hits the stumps, and doesn't go over the top

Yeah, first 2 games were supposed to be syntho but it got changed. Yeah itd be great to be rewarded for beating the batsmen lol.

Here's probably the best delivery of the game by our first change bowler, he normally swings it into a right hander a ton, so he's bowling this to a left, on a yorker length and he thinks its on/outside his legs and it swings back and takes middle and leg out the floor.

That's a solid delivery.

My game on Saturday has just been moved onto synthetic.

******** I hate synthetic and people that don’t train.

I just bowled absolutely beautifully and went for 0-51 off 9 overs.

The batsmen did not middle a single one, there was probably 4-5 dropped catches off my bowling, about 10 fall just short of fielders, 3-4 that went over the stumps (including one that I drifted past the outside edge and landed it on the popping crease, it went over middle and leg), one of these was also the best ball I’ve ever bowled in a match it landed it on 6th or 7th stump, turned it back in, small inside edge over middle stump. Also has my captain forced my mid on back to the boundary even though they had mishit 2 just in front of cow and hadn’t hit one over mid on, I have it up to make them try hit over the top with my turn and bounce. Also had 3-4 misfields for 4.

We then got wrongly timed out and lost.

Most frustrating game I’ve ever played. I never get that upset but this game genuinely almost broke me.
Sounds like my games when I never used to bowl Flippers just the Leg-Breaks, always - every game used to induce massive mis-hits, balls in the air all over the place, all within catching distance of anyone in a decent team. Again and again like you 4 or more simply dropped or the fielder just not fit/agile enough to get under the ball to catch and the miss-fields - jeez!. I got dropped - was seen as ineffective and expensive, that's when I turned to the Flippers.

Yeah nice, it’s always dropped catches haha. I’ve worked hard on my catching, mainly because I don’t want to be THAT GUY. But also so I’m not being a hypocrite when I complain about my teams catching.

Love a good bowled through the gate delivery, that must have felt nice.
Slightly off piste with this question. You Aussie's seem to be using the American term 'Guy' more than the traditional term 'Bloke', how long has that been going on and have you ditched 'Bloke' or is this a class thing. Would your Bogans be more inclined to use Bloke over Guy and posher more middle class types Guy?

Depends on the phrasing really.

How I was using it there is almost always THAT GUY, because THAT BLOKE sounds weird.

I think because it isn’t taught in schools. It’s more something you pick up from relatives or places like cricket.

I normally use it if I’m referring to a man who’s name I can’t remember.

“Who’s that bloke that dropped you 3 times last week”

That kinda thing.

Also I think I subconsciously cut my Australian colloquialism out of my internet speech because I’ve had people misunderstand me.

Also the WA accent typically is a bit more “Mediterranean”, and more accent-less. If you want a strong Aussie accent you want an eastern states bloke like Leggy88. Particularly Queensland.

Yes I said bloke, no it wasn’t intentional, yes I’ll keep it, it’s a good example of how I use it.

Also the slang is a bit of a class thing yeah. I’m probably upper-middle so it’s a bit more weeded out of me. The actual accent itself is the main class thing though, not so much the slang.

Yup, exactly that kind of not fit enough stuff.

Could have easily run in from the boundary but instead stood back and let it bounce.

I’ve dropped myself down a grade so I can have a bat (good form) and clear my head.

Also I was giving benefit of the doubt. But then I took 2 catches in 30 minutes (1 was quite hard running back at cover). So no, it wasn’t hard conditions, weird lighting or a slippery ball or something. They’re just shit.

I'm from a real working class background, so here in England I've been brought up referring to men as Blokes as Geezers, no-one I know from where I'm from says Guys. Interesting that you say bloke sounds weird. Do you have a American TV programs like Friends, I think that was instrumental here in widening the use of Guys into the working class vernacular and also the influx of immigration populations that have been brought up watching American TV shows. Probably an age thing as well given that I'm old!

Oh I don’t think bloke itself sounds weird, it just doesn’t work for every phrasing.

And yeah we do have stuff like Friends. Americanism is quite a large “issue” in Australia, from movies, shows and video games. The only time I really use guys is to say like “hey guys” to a group of people.

I’m guilty of being Americanised (I’m 19). For example stuff like “advertisements”, the way I was taught and the British English way to say it is with a “tiss” sound in the middle. I started saying “tize” for a bit there. That kind of thing.

If I unironically said Geezer around almost anyone I know I’d probably be crucified.

I’m still glad we have our fresh food culture. The day it becomes as sugarified as America I’m leaving the country 🫡.

Lmao, I would love to see the reaction if I called someone a 'geezer'! It's almost mocking, like calling someone pipsqueak or superstar, or champ.
Didn't even know advertisements was supposed to be pronounced with a 'tiss'.

Funny you should say that I've just watched a documentary on Youtube about the same thing in the USA. Shame thing here in the UK an awful lot of people have succumbed and we're catching up with the Americans. 🙁
