Wrist Spin Bowling (part Five)

Good to hear that he's still got the bug for it, do you have any days when he's not up for it and has he reached the age where he's due for a growth spurt that might upset his mojo and are you ready for it?

I can tell if he's up for it, usually, but if he says he dont feel like it we wont go. At the moment he really enjoys himself when bowling even when he trains he jokes and carries on having a lot of fun.

I suppose why he likes cricket is he always has got a lot of positive reinforcement from me and his coaches / team mates. But if if he choses to not play anymore it wouldn't worry me one bit. I would only feel sad that it would be a marker of the passage of time.

I'd be devastated if my kids turned their backs on sport, hence the reason I have to be careful not to go too far, sounds like you've got a good approach there with Jimmy and a far more relaxed approach to the whole sport thing in general. It may be a cultural thing, the perception here is that you all kind of live outside anyway and you're mostly all active, whereas here we've got possibly the worst levels of obesity and a health time bomb ticking because no-one does sport and no-one wants to do it, they just all want to be on facebook and XBOX etc.

Didn't mind tossing them up and reving the ball did he ?

Macgill never bowled the flipper, his one bad ball an over got him stacks of wickets. Didn't notice the OSB as dave calls it in that lot but that was his backspinner if needed.

Got 2 overs at the end, bowled rubbish went for 16, turning the ball a lot but line and length all wrong, still didnt get hit for a boundry and had 2 wides

I am less worried about the boundary count, as that could just be a factor of whether you bowled at their middle order or rabbits, but your line AND length ALL wrong? Are you sure? Were you trying a bit too hard striving for wickets to get back into the game rather that concentrating on getting into rhythm or was it just one of those days? Looking back at the 12 (14) balls, were they really all randomly poor or was there a pattern (all too full/wide or was there perhaps an element of over correction which often looks like 'rubbish' but does have a relatively simple logic to it) this is why you need to measure yourself against those 'controllable' goals we spoke about a couple of weeks back - even if you dont match up to what you planned its a good 'learning process' to go through which will help for the future rather than a blanket write off of a match performance. Hope things go more according to plan this weekend

Tahir looked a bit ropey till he took his first wicket today, even then he bowled some short stuff, Nice wrong un though to get his second of 3.

Yes part of his job description is to clean up tailenders and that fast wrongun he bowls helped do the trick nicely. He could get amongst the top order if the conditions suit him in the 2nd dig.

He reminds me a bit of the grimmett story of journeyman, changing countries, states and clubs and not getting national rep to early 30,s.

U/ 14 1sts had another good win today. Young bloke bowled 3 overs 1 maiden 0/9. That's season cumulative 21 overs 4 maidens 3/45.

Started with 10 dot balls then 2 2,s. 4 more dot balls then 4, 1. 2nd boundary of the season and another full toss slog swept. Went close to taking wickets with close stumping chance and skied balls but deadset unlucky not to get lbw with one that went straight and hit the kid plumb in front on back foot but this umpire just dont give lbw's. And i suppose that way he keeps it fair but our other umpire has an itchy finger and if you appeal loud enough for lbw he gives.

Opposition coach was my sons coach 4-5 years ago and he came up and said 'well bowled today mate' after the game.

Their spinners ended up going for quite a few boundaries. Anything slow and short to our bats goes for 4 or 6 mostly. They did have this good little offspinner though that opened the bowling. He was kept on a bit too long and ended up getting carted a bit but his first 4-5 overs were excellent.

A Stuey MacGill video you may not have seen, shame that one of his 12 wickets against England has disappeared now.

You heard it here first, he is toying with the idea of making a bbl comeback like warne and hoggie. He is about to announce something on radio in a few minutes.

So he is going to come back and bowl for sydney uni in place of beau casson, who is ill, then put himself up for the sydney6.s and take on warne and hoggie at 40 year old legspin comebacks.

That'd be good for you blokes, we'll all have to wait and see if any of the bowling turns up on Youtube. Any of you blokes out there that read these threads, but never get involved and there's obviously hundreds of you - if you've got the technology to record any of this and get it up on Youtube can you do it for us please? There's loads of us that would like to see the bowling of Warne, Hoggie and now potentially McGill?

There was a terrible Flipper in there that he tried, that went really wrong. They showed it in slow-mo - hardly any spin. It didn't look like a back-spinner, almost looked like the wrong wrong un as it was out of the back of the hand, although they only showed it once, so I might be wrong.

I want to go see him bowl as I live in Sydney, never ever been to a cricket game since I don't like sitting out in the sun all day doing nothing, but seeing Macgill bowl is an exception. Does anyone know if he will be playing for sydney uni in anything other than T20 matches? I've tried looking here bu doesn't give me much info. http://www.sydneygrade.nsw.cricket.com.au/common/pages/public/rv/draw.aspx?id=RVFIXTURE&entityid=4
