My bad, i looked the up the stats before the recent tests.

Anyway Sangakkara no longer keeps for his country in tests so i wouldn't select him in my World XI.

Re: Your Test World XI?

based on current performances this would be mine:

01. Graeme Smith(C)
02. Gautam Gambhir
03. Hashim Amla
04. Kevin Pietersen
05. Shivnarine Chanderpaul
06. Jacques Kallis
07. Brendon McCullum(WK)
08. Dale Steyn
09. Mitchell Johnson
10. Makhaya Ntini
11. Muttiah Muralidaran

The batting order is a bit mixed up.. but anyway.

Best Test 11 in many areas not just recent preformances

1.S. Katich
2.G. Smith
3.R.Ponting
4.M.Clarke
5.K.Pietersen
6.S.Chanderpaul
7. J. Kallis
8.B.Haddin
9.M.Johnson
10.D.Steyn
11.S.Clark
12.C.Gayle
Backup keeper- B.Mcullum

Reason for no specialist spin bowlers is because both Katich and Clark have picked up 5 wicket hauls
OPINIONS

my thoughts are maybe could've fit in another J. kallis in that team and maybe a specialist spinner, but apart from that not a bad team at all.

Re: Your Test World XI?

This is and there statistics to the calendar year which is why they are in the team.

1. Graeme Smith (c) - 1573 runs at 74.90

2. Virender Sehwag - 1462 runs at 56.23

3. Ricky Ponting - 1126 runs at 46.91

4. Mahela Jayawardene - 666 runs at 60.54 (played half amount of tests)

5. Shivnarine Chanderpaul - 774 runs at 86.00

6. A.B. Devilliers - 1036 runs at 64.75

7. Brendan McCullum - 764 runs at 33.21 [Just edges out MS Dhoni – who finished with similar batting statistics to the Kiwi, but McCullums ability to score quickly and superior keeping averages won him his position. A destructive keeper batsmen in the tradition of the great Adam Gilchrist, he scored six half centuries this year, and unlike Dhoni does not have a world class batting order above him to set the tone. He finished the year with the second most keeper dismissals (53) and averaged more dismissals per innings than any other keeper in 2008.]

8. Mitchell Johnson - 61 wickets at 27.39

9. Dale Steyn - 69 wickets at 21.33

10. Ryan Sidebottom - 47 wickets at 20.25

11. Muttiah Muralidaran - 43 wickets at 24.46 (like jayawardene)

Alright so this one is for what you think should be the Test world 11. I don't want people arguing over it as it is totally opinion based. Mine would be:

G.Smith*
G.Gambhir/S.Katich
K.Sangakarra+
J.Kallis (Designated all rounder)
S.Tendulkar
S.Chanderpaul
A.Flintoff
Z.Khan
S.Clark
D.Steyn
M.Muralidaran

Unlucky to miss out: M Clarke, A.Prince, AB.de Villiers, M.Youssef, I.Sharma, V.Sehwag and many more.

By the way, sorry for lack of Pakistani's, I had M.Yousseff in, but for team balance decided to put Flintoff in instead.

A lot of depth in the bowling there and their batting is very deep.

Your thoughts and who you would have in your World XI?

Gayle for Kallis
and
Pieterson for Tendulkar

Are you serious ?

Gayle is no where near a better all rounder than Kallis, Kallis is better at every aspect of the game (except agressuve batting) which chouldn't be taken into too much consideraton here as it is a test 11. And Gayle is an opener not a number 4 having an agressive batsman at 4 has been tried and it dosen't work.

Also Tendulkar is alot better than Pietersen.

Last year Pietersen hit 7 more runs and averaged 3 higher but I would prefer the excellency of Tendulkar in my side any day.

1. Smith
2. Sehwag
3. Amla
4. Chanderpaul
5. Pieterson
6. M. Clarke
7. Haddin
8. Johnson
9. Steyn
10. Sidebottom
11. Muralidaran

I've included Haddin as I believe he has really come of age over the last 12 months.
His stats show 42 dismissals and 736 runs @ 38.73 in 12 matches.

At this point in time Gayle is a better batsman than Kallis imo. Gayle doesn't always play the aggressive role anyway. His 200 against the Kiwi's is a perfect example. Couldn't have been more controlled and measured during this innings.

Also Tendulkar is alot better than Pietersen.

Not anymore.

I can't see Gayle batting at 4 and taking out the all rounders spot in a world test 11 over Kallis one of the best all rounders of all time.

yes one of the best of all time.
but on that account Brett Lee, Ricky Ponting, Matthew Hayden, Chaminda Vaas, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid and even Shaoib Ahktar would make the team.
its who played the best last year,
not of all time.
the simple fact is Gayle was a heap better than Kallis in 2008
