Australia in India

Re: Australia in India

Watson impressed me this test.

White got his first test wicket, a big one in Sachin Tendulkar! Well done Craig.

A draw was pretty much on the cards from the start of play imo.

3 days till the next test and a chance to go 1-0 up.

Re: Australia in India

Not quite sure who came out of this test 'ahead' but I guess Australia may just have had their noses in front. Lack of a quality spinner probably robbed them of victory or at least of pushing hard for it.

Re: Australia in India

Well I think that India has a pretty much chances of winning this test series as the boyz are performing well in this series specially zaheer khan and ishant sharma this 2 players are putting their 100% efforts in this series....

Um I think you mean Cameron White. :D
Yeah it ended up being a boring old draw.

Re: Australia in India

alright so theres a chance that my man sarfraz stuart clark will not be playing in the next test, because of an elbow injury. doug bollinger would be the obvious replacement in my opinion. thoughts?

Re: Australia in India

also, on that it makes you wonder why ashley noffke was not taken over as the main back up paceman. he was probably the best bowler in state cricket last year and was overlooked.

Re: Australia in India

Stuart Clark has been ruled out of the second test with an elbow injury. Peter Siddle, the Victorian fast bowler is the favourite to make his test debut.

Stuart Clark out of second test

It's a bit puzzling isn't it? Only thing I can see wrong with Noffke is that he is 30 and there are a fair few Australian quicks who are younger than him (Siddle, Bollinger, Johnson). Out of the handful of international games he has played, Noffke has performed okay, nothing to suggest he would fall down the pecking order.

2nd Test - India v Australia at Punjab Cricket Association Stadium, Mohali, Chandigarh

Game Two is upon us after game one ended in an intriguing draw on Tuesday. Australia went into the first test as underdogs but soon proved they had the skill, the heart and finesse to mix it with their more fancided opponents. The pitch did very little for either side as it was a matter of who could strike first with early wickets to take the ascendency. Australia scored big in the first innings and then did well with the ball but stumbled when the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan came into bat. Ultimately, it was those two who helped India draw the game.

India head into the game with big cencerns about their captain, Anil Kumble. Kumble struggled for most of the first test with a shoulder injury and has spent most of the past few days defending himself from the media's endless speculation about his playing future. The Indian skipper also failed to take a wicket at Bangalore and muffed several chances in the field adding to the pressure he faces not only on the field but also off it. He is still no certainty to play.

The Indian batters will also be aiming to get off to a better start in the game at Mohail after the Australia bowlers ran through the Indian top order far too easily in the first innings. It was left to the tail to salvage something for the innings and it ended up saving them the game something which they can't let happen again.

Australia meanwhile welcome another debutant to the side. Victorian fast bowler Peter Siddle will debut, edging out left-arm quick Doug Bollinger for the final pace spot after Stuart Clark was ruled out with an elbow injury. Australia's main worry is their bowling attack and they'll be aiming to take all 20 Indian wickets on offer, something they were unable to do in the first game. Siddle will be suited to these conditions, his ability to hit the pitch hard will certainly favour his bowling style here, he took nine wickets on a pitch very similar to these conditions in last season's domestic competition back in Australia so is no stranger to the Mohali wicket.

The pitch is expected to be slow early as heavy rain in the lead-up to the test has hampered preparation. However, with sunshine and fine conditions forecast the five sayd, the pitch should be able to gain some bounce which will help the quicks but also the spinners as the game goes on.

Expect another fierce battle. both sides have been keen to have a war of words in the media and the battle on the pitch will be just as good. The second test will be a beauty with both teams looking to go 1-0 up.

Re: Australia in India

I see they are talking about Siddle making his debut- but how about big Dougie Bollinger.

The chrome dome from Fairfield Liverpool- my local first grade team- sure I'm biased, but he's done his time with the 'A' squads, he's done well over there in the last tour, it must be time! :)

I havent read back through the last 14 pages, but re: Cameron White- he's not going to be a match winner for us- he'll chip in with a wicket or two, and some runs, but he's not going to turn a game on its head in a few overs. So good luck to him during this tour, but surely he's not the long term solution to our spinning woes, and this will be his last test tour?

Re: Australia in India

i had my money on dougie as well, but they most something about siddle that we don't. i still recon noffke should be there, but hey, im not a selector. maybe i should be though. good odds for the aussies, i'd be backing us at that price, it'd be the longest odds we've been in years. also back in clarke to make a ton this test. hes due.

Re: Australia in India

Interesting to see if Kumble is fit enough to play. Crucial test if we can go one up then we have them. Good luck to Siddle as well

Re: Australia in India

Why is Noffke overlooked?

Had a terrific year 2007.

Odd that Siddle has a spot in the test side I would've thought.

At 25? I dont think so

As for Dougie, the selectors probably thought if anyone missed it would be Johnson but with Clark being out they probably didnt want the 2 left arm quicks

Siddle was the star bowler of last domestic season, if he played the full season he would have had most wickets by far, a very deserving selection
