Australia in New Zealand

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Come on Eddie, you went Missing in Action in the immediate aftermarth after Queensland's magnificent Shied win. It was clear you were sulking and bitter at the defeat because you haven't talked about the game since.

Instead, you target the Queensland players, Marsh the opener is out injured, so Haddin moves up to open and Hopes takes #7. Simple.

It is always great reading your work, because it his driven by your dislike for anything that comes from Queensland.

Doesnt worry me, QLDs weather looks like eliminating anything gained by the Bulls, it was time to focus on the OD final and the rest of the Shield season

I am glad you enjoy, just like we down here can see the same in the QLDers post about Victoria, matter of fact it seems every state just hates us and we love it that way

Re: Australia in New Zealand

I know what you mean, everyone hates Australia in international cricket and I love it that way as well.

Fact is, you haven't made a comment on the famous shield match.

It was a magnificent victory, I'd like to hear your thoughts?

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Guys, can we keep the bickering off the thread? No-one cares about Queensland vs Victoria and the AFL. If you want to discuss that, go to the appropriate boards.

Australia need to bowl first against the Kiwis, easy to chase on those small grounds and the Kiwis love chasing and always have

Australia have lost the last 5 ODIs in NZ batting first.

No suprises there, does that mean the last time Australia won in NZ was when the mighty Mick Lewis bowled em to victory with a brilliant final over?

I had a look at New Zealands ODI stats from about 2005, most of the games they had lost had been when they batted first.

It seems that they really enjoy batting second at home for some reason, we should consider bowling first just for a change.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

If the rotational basis continues, who goes out for McKay on Saturday? Who rests for Voges?

Re: Australia in New Zealand

There have been 7 Chappell-Hadlee matchs played in New Zealand.

New Zealand have batted 2nd in all of those matchs, winning 5 and losing 2 @ 71%.

Since 2005 New Zealand have played 42 ODI matchs in NZ, winning 25, and losing 11 @ 62%.

That is an impressive record overall, it is clear that NZ really enjoy playing at home.

Let's continue with the analysis.

Out of those 11 loses, 6 were batting second, and 5 were batting first.

Out of the 25 wins.

19 were batting second, and 6 were batting first.

So when New Zealand win a match, 76% of the time they are batting second.

They are a team that enjoys chasing on the small grounds, we need to combat this and quickly.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

As I said earlier - It was what Ponting was intending to do in 2007. Not sure why he still isn't attempting to force it.

Ponting is extremely unlucky though. I think he has a 30% win rate at the toss. One of the lowest of all captains. :D

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Ponting didn't play in the CH in 2007, he was resting before the WC. M. Hussey was captain.

Ponting has a 52% toss win ratio in ODI cricket and a 46% toss win ratio in test cricket.

Interestingly, Andrew Strauss has a 62% toss ratio at the toss in test cricket, and a 53% ration in ODI cricket. Strauss' test ratio is high, as he plays more test matchs that toss ratio will come down to 50 ± 3. Hopefully, he starts losing tosses during the Ashes.

Australia winning all 5 coin tosses in this years Ashes will do nicely :D :D :D

Couple of years ago the coin tosses were down on that, using old info. Not that it really matters. Not as if he has a 52% likelihood to win it next ODI.

And in 2007 that is what he said. After the series that Hussey captained for he came out and said that in the WC he would be bowling first as they were down on Lee, playing with an out of form Tait (until the WC came along that is) and the batting line up was brilliant so they would prefer to chase.

That is the case now. Inconsistent bowling (hmm I wonder who said that would be the case) and more consistent batting.

I'm agreeing with you.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Cameron White has the worst toss record, Victoria won something like 1 toss out of 10 straight T20 matches from CL to Big Bash

Half the reason we got belted in that series against NZ was because Hussey was running out like a hyper dog.

When people slate Ponting as a captain I always think back to that series and how as soon as Ponting came back all was well.:D

Hussey's captaincy wasn't too bad. It was that Hayden was having troubles, Gilchrist went awry, Ponting wasn't batting, Symonds was injured (and in bloody good form) Lee was injured (also in bloody good form) and those two couldn't be replaced suitably. Add to that an inexperienced captain thrust into unknown circumstances without full weapons to attack with and came out on the wrong side.

Then Ponting came back and obviously had a chat to them. Then champions will always come back strong under pressure and went through lossless through the World Cup with everyone in form.

This time things are a little more even.

Well, as I said, I disagree.

I like seeing Australia dominate, smashing runs and taking wickets quickly.

It makes for entertaining cricket.

I don't care much about the score, if Australia wins a tight game then good, but I rather a smashing.

Ugh. I find smashings and "3 day" wins to be rather boring and predictable.

Hussey didn't do much wrong tacticaly - there isn't much you can do on those small grounds.

However, the team just looked rushed, Hussey is a pretty hyper character and I just think that that crossed over to the team. Nothing major, however, I was just illustrating the calming effect Ponting has on the team.

Anyone think Johnson was pretty lucky to get off, I reckon both Stryis and Johnson have downplayed the incident as 'banter' and that has got Johnson off.

My favourite Ponting 'calm moment' was probably this one:

or perhaps this classic:
