Australia in New Zealand

I actually ment his shirt, rather then his shorts.

It would be awesome, Watson takes an important wicket, then rips his shirt in celebration.

What would be more awesome is if Dwayne Leverock did that.

This D/L system makes no sense to me. So they reduced the game by 5 overs and only shaved off 8 runs from the target needed.

Aussies played at run rate of 5.46, which means that they would have made about 23 odd runs in those 5 overs , so the target should be more around 250 to be fair to the chasing side.
Duckworth-Lewis is based on the theory that a side has two types of resources with which to chase runs - wickets and overs remaining. Thus a side with 50 overs and 10 wickets in hand has 100% of resources remaining, whereas if they have 0 wickets or 0 overs they have 0% resources. When overs are lost to rain, the 'resource' percentage is applied to the total using some simple mathematics to determine the revised target.

The ICC does regular statistical analysis of matches to determine the appropriate weighting given to remaining balls and remaining wickets respectively. The last update was in 2004. Given the increased scoring rates over the last decade and a half, the weighting is generally shifting further towards balls remaining with each update.

Overall, it's a pretty fair method for determining a revised target, and fairly simple to calculate and understand if you have the appropriate tables. Unfortunately, any formula designed by a couple of economists is bound to be somewhat counter-intuitive.

Agree there, it is pretty fair.

All in all though I think I would prefer the match to just be called off as a draw in most cases. I hate seeing 20 over chases when the last team had a 50 over. I think it just spoils it.

Looks like Michael Clarke may have saved Norths test career, I cant see Australia bringing in 2 new batsman to the side

But the loss of the Vice captain should improve the chances of the Victorian Captain and no5 is perfect for him

I imagine Steve Smith will be called up to the ODI side

Vicr captain Michael Clarke quits tour Australian cricket team's tour of New Zealand 'for personal reasons' | Herald Sun

Love the title on that article in the Herald Sun... "Vicr captain Michael Clarke..." of all the places to make a typo they do it in he first word of the whole thing :D

Should spice things up a little for the good.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

This is why Michael Clarke should not captain. Imagine if he had taken Ponting's spot after the Ashes and this crap sprung up. Bingle is nothing but trouble.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

In the 3rd ODI Australia won the toss and elected to field.

NZ 167/5 off 33 overs @5.01, Australia have been taking consistent wickets throughout.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Australia win very easily in the end.

To change it up Australia bowled first.

3 strikes within the first 10 overs was always going to make it hard for New Zealand to set a decent total. Losing early wickets was always on the cards considering the way McCullum and Guptil were going about their work - throwing the bat at everything.

Harris and Johnson were once again the pick of the bowlers, credit must be given to Bollinger as well. He removed McCullum - the undisputed dangerman in the NZ team.

Watson picked up 2 wickets including the dangerman Taylor - Watson now has 100+ wickets in ODI's at 28.

Hopes and Hauritz were steady but both were below their best.

The batting in reply was first rate with all the wickets falling to batsmen error.

Ponting and Haddin got Australia to the edge and the remaining batsmen took Australia home.

Australia lead the series 2-1, although the next match is on Thursday at Eden Park in Auckland. Australia struggle playing on the rugby grounds, they will probably be looking to bowl first on Thursday.

On a side note the test squad is expected to be announced on Wednesday, the rumour is that M Clarke will be included in the squad and that he will be available for the first test.

You are spot on there, my friend.

I've been saying for ages they won't last, and it looks like he might be about to make a decision that may yet save his skin in the cricketing world ...

Re: Australia in New Zealand

Hopes isn't bowling well lately. Few good overs, maybe a wicket, then one batsman takes to him and his figures are gone.

Good batting by Haddin and Ponting.

Also looks like Johnson is in form of late. Good to see him back into the form that started his career.

I was hoping that Clarke wouldn't be in the first Test. It would sort out a couple of batting issues if two fringe players were brought in at once.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

I was quite happy to see them pick Bailey for the remaining ODIs, a good selection although I was expecting one of the overrated players from North of the Murray, but I suppose the selectors didnt want them to miss out on the average boosting game against the redbacks

Didn't know things were that bad that he is considering getting rid of her. Bingle's pretty hot but she is too much trouble, ending their engagement would be the best thing to do.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

The problem is Bingle is so young both in terms of her age and her maturity, she is only 22. Clarke, could quite possibly, have the captaincy on a fulltime basis this time next year, if Ponting was to retire from all froms of the game after the World Cup - although I get the impression that he may well, form permitting, continue on until season 2011/2012.

But it wasn't long ago journo's like Robert Craddock were saying that their mail was that Ponting was looking at retiring after the 2011 World Cup. If that is the case then Ponting should go on for the good of the country's cricket team, Clarke is in a difficult position and he needs to sort his life out. Ponting went through the same thing after brawling in nightclubs.

This, lets be honest, is embarassing for the Australian cricket team, not least Clarke.

It is probably not possible for Clarke to be captain of the Australian cricket team while having such a high profile girlfriend, for me that combination can't work.

As such it is hard to see any other option but for Clarke to cut ties with Bingle.

Re: Australia in New Zealand

4th ODI is halfway complete. New Zealand batted first and were bowled out for 238. A fairly disappinting performance from the Kiwis considering they were 1/120 at one point. Brendon McCullum top scored with 61 and Martin Guptill made 30 in what was a very fast for New Zealand but after McCullum went, the Kiwis collapsed very quickly but some lusty hitting from Daryl Tuffey and Shane Bond saw NZ make 238. The highlight was Tuffey's 3 consecutvie sixes off Nathan Hauritz.

Hauritz bowled well to claim three wickets but was then punished by Tuffey later on to finish with 3/46. Shane Watson proved he is fast becoming an important bowler for the side, taking two key scalps in his 2/34. James Hopes was economical with 3/38 and Mitch Johnson was the other multiple wicket-taker with 2/40.

Australia's innings is yet to start due to a rain delay. However, it is expected that play will begin soon as the ground has good drainage and this is only a passing shower.
