Totally agree Napisan. To finish on top and only have the advantage of rain is not fair. Top 2 in most sports get a second chance and/or a week off as reward for winning. Your finals draw is exactly right, the way it should be.

I have a competition structure for the forum members to ponder.
Reduce the number of teams to 8, play the first 7 weeks of the season as 1 day games (each team plays each other once) and at the end of those have a 1v2 Final on the Sunday (optional but worth it). Then we get into the 2 day games in which each team also play each other once leading into the finals series which Napisan has described. This would give the BCA their coveted 21 week season, everyone plays everyone once in both forms so it's fair for all.

Any thoughts from the punters?

Think the draw / season needs to be looked at and this appears best forum to garnish ideas from us who actually play the game ..... only positive replies and constructive criticism required ..... my thoughts

Remove one day games and play each other in two day games just the once, alternating each season home and away and changing time of year teams play.

This would eliminate Sunday games and playing two days before Xmas.

The extra Saturdays could be used in a myriad of ways ...

..... Could make the 20/20 comp a weekend affair with knockouts on Saturday and semis and Final on Sunday .. crowds to watch, beer to be drunk, bbq to be enjoyed ..etc ..money!!

..... One day knockout comp over a couple of weekends

...... chance for our juniors, particularly u/16 to play a game on turf and give some of us senior players a chance to watch

........ reserve days for washouts

......... Preliminary Final weekend, to give top two more advantage

any thoughts out there ??

Another interesting fact.
Parker has taken 11 wickets and Andrew Blake from Darley has taken 12
Seems the so called stats aren't as accurate as first thought

I'll be honest, as a new comer to the BCA, I have not played against Darley yet. Who is Parker and Blake and are their names worthy to be mentioned on such a forum?

As it is nearly Christmas, the Wise Man has suggestions for what Santa could bring the clubs in the BCA ...

Ballarat-Redan:
A heavy roller so that there cannot be any assistance to the bowlers of the opposition teams. That should allow them all to play like the cowboys that they are.
Brown Hill:
Some top order batsmen that can handle the heat in the kitchen. Maybe some middle order batsmen and some able hitters in the tail.
Coronet City:
Santa's already given them a couple of wins this season. This should be enough to keep them going for another couple of years.
Darley:
A decent spin-bowler, that Parker is a joke ... has anyone seen him turn a ball in the comp yet? Some consistency wouldnt go astray for the boys down the highway.
East Ballarat:
Maybe santa can bring them a kickboxing to the head. Might knock out some of their arrogance. We can only hope!
Golden Point:
How long can Josh White carry that team. He is 20 years old and the only positive at the club. Maybe some assistance for him from santa.
Mt.Clear:
Some attacking form of captaincy and cricket, their own ground which could include changerooms, a loss in the grand final.
Naps/Sebas:
Fly spray, flies are ******** at their home ground.
North Ballarat:
Bowlers and batsmen required to salvage any kind of respect.
Wendouree:
Some runs for their batsmen and they could well be the team to dethrown mt.clear after christmas.

Hope Santa brings some joy to your club!
i don't think you are very wise for a wise man... must spend to much time on here and not on the field....

mmmm.. Wise man, as a newcomer to the association, you must surely form opinions very quickly. You certainly had a lot to say in your previous post (shown above). Seems you forgot your assessment of Parker since then. You may be being mischievous, but be consistent with it

quite easy, steveo quoted off dippers website. that only has results for those clubs that are prepared to submit their results via the website. so those bloody lazy clubs that cant be bothered doing it that way are not included in those stats.

What is the link for dippers?

Good question Wise Man.

Brendan Parker and Andrew Blake are two talented all-rounders from the Darley Cricket Club.

Blake is only 21 but is one of the biggest hitters in the competition and also bowls lively medium pace. After several seasons of showing glimpses of his ability he has finally put it together this season with the bat and ball.

Parker is in his mid-twenties and bats more conventionally with a strong defence, in addition to this he bowls quickish off-spinners. Parker was also successful in claiming Greg Wakeling's wicket this year when Greg decided to hit Parker out of the ground only to hole out to the fieldsman on the fence (although the state of the pitch could be a excuse for this, or could it?).

So, in conclusion, their names are worthy to be mentioned on this forum.

Interesting assumption 'garnoo', surely you would understand the amount of banter that goes on at cricket clubs. One of the first things you do at a new club/comp is learn more about the competition you're up against (ie. spin bowlers). From what I have been told Parker is a spinner that doesn't spin it, hence the Christmas wish list. I'll be honest I am definately looking forward to playing against him in the next couple of weeks.

That is a fairly detailed response 'The Gospel', could this mean that you are close to the team down the highway??

Ah .... so the opinions expressed in the Xmas wish list werent your own, just what you have heard ... fair enough

So, how are you finding Ballarat cricket?

How does it rate with where you have previously played?

Make sure you dont "hole out" to fieldsman on the fence when you face Parker(The Gospel wont let you forget it) ... but if he doesnt spin it, perhaps thats how he has most of his 11 wickets !!

Hows Kentish go in this comp?

Quick Single, seriously that is the most blatant Hi my name is Leigh kentish someone blow my trumpet.
I have never heard of you, hows that??

The only players I know from your club is Geoff Young & Dale Sidebottom.

On a more appealing subject to all:

Who do you think the Top 4 will be come finals time and which player will be a key figure in the finals

1. Mt Clear-With confidence like Leigh Kentish, why wouldn't they finish on top. Although some would suggest they could get the old Greg Norman choke
Player to Watch: Ash George
2. Wendouree-Clearly the stand out team of the comp, with many class acts
Player to Watch: Matt Skinner
3. Darley-We played them in the first few rounds and seriously they cannot underated. Very even team and steenholdt has done a awesome job
Player to Watch: David Dodd
4. East Ballarat-Premiership experience and Irving to return
Player to Watch: Simon Irving

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

G'day there, Well "HAMMER TIME" i reckon there are still a couple of other sides which will improve and give those four teams a shake on the way to the finals......you don't think so???

Im with you Josh, obviously sounds like you rate your team's chance (if you keep holding the team up, I'm sure you'll be competitive) I dont think Darley or even maybe East will make the finals.

Hi, my names HAMMERTIME and ive got a chip on my shoulder.

Cant answer any of your questions b/c i dont know anything about Ballarat cricket.

Played against Kentish a few times in Swan Hill and was wondering how he goes in this comp, was a very talented young player.

I wouldn't say that I'm close to the "team down the highway" but I do know a few of their players pretty well so I get a regular update on their progress as well as playing against them once or twice each year so I think I am qualified to to talk about them with a degree of accuracy.

If anyone thinks that I have posted an inaccurate description of Blake and/or Parker then feel free to put your views forward...

My top 4 is
1.East Ballarat- Will finish on top
2.Mt Clear- Will struggle to win games after christmas...alot depends on their bowling...the batting is good enough but they do lack quality bowlers!!!
3.Darley- The surprise of the year....will need to win 3 out of 5 games to make finals....
4.Wendouree-Will challenge darley for 3rd position all depends on last game of year....
In saying this you cant right off the combine or Golden Point to push out one of the top 4

I think that East will be the ones to beat for the flag...

Greg is the not the first or will he be the last person to hole out to a spinner. However what makes this dismissal worthwhile remembering is that he blamed the pitch for it (ie: If the pitch is so bad why try and hit the ball out of the park?).

Interesting prediction Double Barrel.

My top 4:
1. Wendouree - Best list in the league and they will finish strongly.
2. East Ballarat - Simon Irving will only add to what is a very strong outfit.
3. Mount Clear - Will struggle without Blake & Kentish post x-mas
4. Either Darley or Golden Point, too tough to call.

my info is that jeremy collier from east has 'popped' his shoulder again & will struggle to play again this season. massive hole. i was also lead to believe that kentish will be playing after xmas. is this not correct???

Mount Clear - too expeienced to let top spot slide, will bat sides out of games

Wendouree - watch for a huge second half from M.Skinner ... Johnson to break wickets record (whatever it is)

East Ballarat - have some good players. N.Yates to fly

Ballarat-Redan - will need to get act together but have a very favourable draw (although as the year is panning out - no easy games)
