and there is the 1 of the main problems with rep cricket. there is 2 bloody much of it. people have lives away from the game. if they reduced it down to 2-3 games in total, plus country week, i think more people would commit. but when its 5-6 games b4 country week, it gets 2 much on top of your club commitments.

but jennings sits in his office, with his head stuck in the sand. u watch, if the boys fail in melb, u wont hear from him. but watch him get his effing melon on tv if they have a successful week!!!!

the bloke fair dinkum wouldnt know most of the blokes in a grade, would even struggle to put names to the faces of most of the country week squad. when was the last time anyone saw him at an a grade game, talking to the players 2 get a feel for any issues the players may have????

Is there any truth to the rumour Cobber that you have been approached by the Wiggles management to act as the sixth person.

Now waka maybe you could clarify the rep teams selection but I have heard players weren't notified until a few days before the game meaning once players found out they said they were unavailable which meant a mad rush a day or so before the game. Wheels even got rang sunday morning to play not that he deserves a game either. I think you'll find that the coach/managers are struggling to do their job at present.

You have to be f'n joking, when you look at it we only play 12 home and away games per season, if you play at a club that makes the finals you may play 1 or 2 more...With the wash outs this season we only play 10..the BCA should have reserve days!!

Rep games give the better and commited players the oppurtunity to play more games which are of a higher level..Also you look at the start of the season the first 2 games were on hard wickets which is ******** cricket.

You bag people who organise this why dont you put your hand up, we play in an association that wants to represent its self and also gives the young up and comers the oppurtunity to show their ability down town in front of Premier league scouts...

we all get older and our lives change but dont f&*k it up for the young ones who want to better their cricket..

Good on you Greg and everyone else for playing in the rep game even when im sure that you could have been home with the missus and kids

well champ, why arent all the good players climbing all over the selectors to play every week? coz there is 2 much. i didnt bag waka or the players that play. im saying that the set up is all wrong. every1 gets on here about the side picked isnt our best & why do the selectors pick this bloke or that bloke when some1 else has scored more or taken more wickets. the reason is the current set up is not working. but the powers that be dont talk 2 the players to find out what would make it better for them to put their hand up & rep ballarat. & its not a 'stage' for the younger players to show their wares, its designed for the best cricketers to show their wares.

OK, I am not entirely in agreeance with the whole setup but I will say that Hammer and Dash have got the toughest job in the BCA by far. They put in many hours all for some blokes to sit back and slag them about their selections. I was in the squad at the start of the year due to my previous seasons record, plus the way I play suits one day cricket which Country week is played. Enough about me.
There was a training session for the squad of Rep blokes on Wednesday night last week which they all knew about. They also knew that the Intercity Challenge was being played on Sunday well in advance. Simon Allan and Luke Corden were picked to play but Simmo was injured from Saturday and Cordo found himself in hospital Saturday night violently ill (non alcohol related for those peanuts who think otherwise), hence the reason a few blokes got a call in the morning and the previous night. I got the call on Thursday night and jumped at the chance to play with the best in the comp even though I felt like a ************ for being there currently in the magoos.
For a bloke like me who loves cricket more than most things in life I take every opportunity to play that I can and even though I think there may be a couple too many rep games leading up to country week the coaches still need to see how well blokes can step up against quality opposition.
It's unfortunate that this season has been stuffed up with an early easter and the BCA too stubborn to change the format to rid us of Sat/Sun games, but that's the hand we have been dealt and we need to play it. I would like to see the rep cricketers get looked after by the comp a little better than current. How many blokes can't get time off for country week? The time off isn't a problem for myself, it's the money coz if I don't work I don't get paid, so it would cost me a weeks wage to play for my city. If I wasn't secretary of BRCC I would get myself on the BCA board and start telling some of these old farts how the players are feeling and make some changes. Anyone with me?

Gday guys, the problem we have here in Ballarat is that the BCA is not at all organised. I played in the under 21's on sunday and hearing from the Bendigo coach that their country week players get paid accomodation, meals, outfits, etc etc was very suprising... As I believe here our country week team has to travel back to Ballarat every night after a game and get no incentives what so ever to represent their assoiciation. Having to take a week off for nothing is'nt really worth it if you ask me, especially if the best team is not on the field. They were my reasons for not playing and I'm sure they apply for others, as well as things like families and other commitments.

Do we all agree the BCA should do something about this???

They need to give blokes incentives so that we do get the best team....

Well maybe your right about the people that are involved in running the BCA as i could name several things that i think need to be looked at or even changed.
Why dont all the players get a players delegate that attends all BCA meetings so that the players view is put to the Jacobsons and the Jennings of the association.
In regards to the Rep side the BCA should have looked more closely at the dates when they did the fixture as its going to be hard playing a Sat- Sun game then going straight into Country week then coming back for the SAT game...i must say makes it hard..
When i said about the younger ones i meant the ones like Josh White who are killing it this year!
I still believe that there should be put aside 2 reserve days each season to accomodate if in the event that a complete washout for the whole comp then we get a result from the washout....
A couple of sides did benefit from the washouts before xmas...

well gee, after all the personnal attacks, now this. if you go back to my earlier statement, thats what i was saying. i stated that we never see jennings at matches, talking to players to get there views on how things could be improved. no consultation at all. there is a whole range of issues facing players & clubs, but not even the clubs can get a hearing, as waka as a club secretary will tell ya, so little chance of a players group getting a fair hearing unfortunately. i have sat in on some of the most disgraceful presidents meetings where club presidents have been made to look like fools, just coz they voiced an opinion different to what the board wanted to hear.

Could we all agree that maybe we need some sort of "Players Association" much like the AFL do? Apart from the initital pre-season meetings and occasional Presidents meeting there really is no contact between the BCA and the blokes that play in it.
In all seriousness, I think this would be a good idea to have even a proper forum similar to this one where we can all voice our opinions on how the current setup rates, and what we would all like to see happen. And that goes for all grades and Districts, not just the 1st Grade.

What blokes are we talking about here waka05? Please delve a little deeper and name some names rather than steering clear of the obvious...

I can't really name names coz I dunno who's in the squad. I don't really want to either, I'm sure they have perfectly good reasons why they aren't playing. I merely stated that there shouldn't be blokes like me playing in that team leading up to Country Week as I'm not in the team.

The lead up games are to bat/bowl/field out of their normal 'club' position. Only 2 lead up games last year and things fell over at country week.

I believe that is the main reason for scheduling a few more this year.

well gee, after all the personnal attacks, now this. if you go back to my earlier statement, thats what i was saying. i stated that we never see jennings at matches, talking to players to get there views on how things could be improved. no consultation at all. there is a whole range of issues facing players & clubs, but not even the clubs can get a hearing, as waka as a club secretary will tell ya, so little chance of a players group getting a fair hearing unfortunately. i have sat in on some of the most disgraceful presidents meetings where club presidents have been made to look like fools, just coz they voiced an opinion different to what the board wanted to hear.

I like you man, but your crazy. Do you think you'll get the runs this week??

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

for a start i think the country week squad should be staying in melb instead of travelling 4-5 hours each day on a bus. it gives guys the opportunity to get to know each other better. im not saying you should go out on the piss til 4pm but a few beers after the game each nite would build a good atmosphere around the team. the last time we stayed in melb 4 the week we got to the final and lost to mornington.that year we went down with the best possible team we could pick.since we started travelling we havent been close to playing on friday,or close to picking the best team. if the bca want the team to succeed then they have 2 give them every opportunity to do that. the travel doesnt work.simple as that..as far as incentives go, i heard the bca are saving $7-8000 by travelling down every day but if you were to give the players $250-300 for the week then you might get more guys putting their hands up to play..guys have commitements like mortgages etc and simply cant afford to take a week off work, but by giving them a few $$$$ it would ease the pressure a bit..also why would you have a rep game on a long weekend, i was at the game on sunday but i didnt see Ron"wee man"jennings there or donny, maybe they went away for a couple of days like everyone else who played shouldve been able to.

Good work Waka, the better blokes around do exactly as you just did.

It is so easy to criticise the process and people involved in all of this, especially when hiding behind a pseudonym.

Bottom line is if players have a burning desire to represent their club & region they will do whatever they can to make themselves available. Over time priorities change and so does the enthusiasm and motivation to take time off work (annual leave or leave without pay) or away from family.

What you usually find is that the people who do slag off and criticise are the people who either don't understand the process of communicating issues or are simply not good enough to make a rep side.
