There is really a shortage of quality grounds due to drought but Western looks ok from a distance. How has the wicket been playing?

Western Oval is a batsman's paradise. Played there twice now after christmas and both times the pitch was a road. Every now and then one would shoot through without bouncing but not enough to really worry. Outfield isn't the worst going around as long as the grass is cut to stop most of the undulation. Brown Hill 2's made 314 first week and we chased it down so there's plenty of runs to be had there.

not a bad assessment big stix..i liked the bit about irv back and firing...lol..
pretty spot on apart from points bowling.. appleton is very handy but nothing to rip thru the toporders..will need big scores to defend.. wendouree can beat anybody on their day but have been a bit inconsistent, thats a worry.. mt.clear shouldve won on saturday but were bowled out with 11 overs left in the day.like shakes mentioned, only needed somebody to put up their hand and hang around with jeffo.some teams handle pressure better than others.

Your definately right. There needs to be a bit of stability in the middle order. The Mounties have been fiddling round with it a bit too much but as of this week, the side (and the batting order) will remain the same. Hot tip to be that Blake and Kentish will be back this round and will play the remainder of the season.

Re: Ballarat Cricket Association

Here's an interesting/pointless statistic. I've just copied and pasted every post on this forum up to The Don88's last one into a word document and it's taken up 411 pages!
Now I have the fun task of sorting through them and picking out some useful points to take back to the BCA to make some changes.

Not sure how many blokes on this site have much of a say around their respective clubs, SteveO you're about the only one off the top of me noggin and maybe Irv, but do you guys think it would be worth me putting something out there to all BCA clubs to put forward their suggestions on how to change/amend/tweak the competition as it stands? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Flat out up at Telstra, Waka? Christ there would be some garbage in amongst those 411 pages. It would be a massive effort to sort the chaff from the wheat.

Look I reckon that while essentially it is a great idea, the BCA are not going to take seriously anything thrown up by people who aren't willing to put their names to. Can you imagine Rampaging Ron and Dour Don taking onboard a suggestion from someone calling themselves, say, Wophead?

Maybe a new suggestions Thread could be started with a few of your preferred suggestions culled from this one and posted there to get the ball rolling.

I do commend your efforts though. The heart is obviously in the right place.

Sven, I don't think I'll be showing them what has been said exactly, just snippets of good ideas and maybe a few process changes. I know it will be a tough road ahead to get them to even consider hearing what we have to say but I've never been one to shy away from a challenge. I've done it at BRCC, changed a few things around over the years to head us in the right direction (along with good support of course). As far as I know we're the only club to have 6 senior teams on the park which is a monster effort, and with ridiculous numbers coming through the junior section I'm seeing a 7th within 2-3 years.

I am pretty sure 3rds players don't play state cricket or for that matter I don't think state reps bowl to 3rds players in the nets
